Arrived yesterday and met up with Aoann, laid in the usual supply run to acquire food and breakfast goods.

Extra curricular activities so far today: visiting locations around Seattle that might have been the inspiration of several combat encounters (the SeaTac Botanical garden, the Bellevue botanical garden...)

Catching up up with the usual suspects setting up the PFS room and watching the gathering of the Paizo Fan Tribe.

Was wiped out from taking the train all the way from St. Paul, so I dropped out of the pre-con game I was going to play in. Having trouble sleeping on the train prompted me to catch up on a little of that, instead.

I DID get to shake my fist at Thursty for including [redacted] as an encounter for 1st level PCs in Ire of the Storm, which my group was playing on the train ride. But, that's about it.

Like all PaizoCon events it's already a fun filled day.

Already one game in with some fun new players (sorry for being your first experience!) it's now time for drinks and meats with the best guy at con, Painlord!

It was some delicious meats and similarly delicious beverages. I enjoyed Painlord's reaction to finding out that I work for the company that makes his work's big software tool, especially since I was wearing corp swag to show it off.

I have heard rumblings that badge pickup starts at "how are people awake at this hour" o'clock instead of starting today. I am fortunate to have my "home" sleep schedule instead of the adjusted "here" sleep schedule. I might actually make it at a reasonable time.

To all you fine folks attending the convention, have a great time! I'm looking forward to hearing about announcements.

I really enjoyed my first PFS session, with a nice mix of brand new players and 4-5 star GM players. My level 1 shaman killed a white dragon! (media reports that it was an innocent helpless hippogriff are "fake news".). Inexplicably, family members from Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming have decided to come see me at the con. I must be a better son or brother than I thought!

Alas, hotel Wi-Fi very uncooperative.

GMing stuff leaves little time for bloggery.

I encountered the infamous goblin brain, which fueled my 5 star qualification table.
I would like to thank Bret, Hilary, Zack, Kevin, Therry and especially Guy for being such good sports about being stabbed, set on fire and getting mauled. Your plans were insane and well worth giving up some sleep for. Poor students ;)

At the VC dinner I got to finally meet Tonya and a bunch of other great people. I cant say anything more, except that John Compton can kill my character anytime.

Ditto because of time zones. What the hell is with the Taco Bell not being 24 hours when adjacent to giant hotels and an airport? It opens when the registration desk does.

Breakfastt seem s like a good idea today. Why my body has yet to adapt to this odd time zone, even though I have been here almost a week I don't know. Maybe this should be a hint to grab a good breakfast?

Either that, or drink more in the evenings? 12:00 am is gonna be really late tonight.

Woke up this morning in an excited haze left over from yesterday.

I got to meet a bunch of awesome people including, but not limited to: Kalervo Oikarinen, Mikko Kallio, Anthony Adam, Russ Brown, Alistair Riggs, Isabelle Lee, and of course Thursty.

Drank an AMF which caused my brain to confuse any PFS scenario I tried to think of with any other scenario. It's a new game, ask me about a PFS scenario while intoxicated and I will remember a totally different scenario.

The slot zero of Solstice Scar went really well. No one died due to what Ryan Costello calls the "wall of buffs" from two very helpful halflings and their players.

Today's adjenda is to play the Iron Adventurer challenge and meet more awesome people. Perhaps less booze than yesterday... Perhaps not.

Ugh, I forgot how badly I sleep at cons. Anyway, I am ready to run some Season of the Righteous ACG this morning! Come play with me!

Do you know what happens when you don't drink the night before the con? You end up in bed before midnight and get some sleep. Crazy, but I think that's how it works. And that's what I did last night. I awoke naturally at 6amish and now breakfasting happily.

The line to check in is only about 50 long, but Paizo has had it moving quickly in the past and I'm happy to check in later. As I don't have a solid 8am PFS/lottery game, I can kick it until I'm ready to mosey over.

Last night Recap:

Dinner with some of the Minnesota crew. There is a good roasthouse within walking distance with good beer/drinks selection. We ate lots and it was good.

Came back to hang with Pirate Rob (a Bay Area favorite) and reminisced about the good old days of PaizoCons past. Mostly, we agreed that the Grand Convocation was epic and probably *the* highlight for me of PaizoCons past. I can't believe it was 5 years ago. But a lot of the same people who made it memorable are still around, which is pretty keen. In a fun side note, I saw Becky last night who played with us in that event. It's her first time back to PCon in 5 years.

Also saw Tim Nightingale who is probably the community yahoo that I admire most. He makes Wayfinder happen every year which is always a good, fun read. It's amazing how much passion he has for the project even after some 8(?) years. He spoke with passion about the art and writing in Wayfinder and how it has improved over time. I stoked to see the latest issue.

Saw Ryan from KnowDirection (a favored podcast) and had an intro to his young daughter. As it turns out, I might have been wrong about only knowing two Canadian PaizoConians, Ryan is one. And his podcast makes me happy.

This year, I'm hoping for more cool and fun experiences.

Breakfast Sidenote:

Two of the players from a session I played in two years ago, Rob McCreary's Assualt on Redlake Fort (from the soon-to-be released Giantslayer AP) came by to shake my hand and say hi. They both remember me from that game and I...uh, failed miserably to place/name them. They are both from Missouri and usually come to PCon every other year.

They are neat, btw, pure. They didn't come to play anything in particular. They just came to piddlespotting *game*. Good on them.

The coffee at this morning's breakfast is better than yesterday's, but not great.

Ah Yeah: Nick Louie, a long time PbPer and friend (we went through Eyes of the 10 together in Vegas circa 2012), stopped by during breakfast. We talk about old times.

Wow, +1 to Paizo staff for quick check in. When I walked down for bfast, the line was about 100 ppl long (around 6:45am). When I strolled up after bfast, there was no line and I was checked in with my goodie bag in under a minute.

Goodie bag contents: book, a Legends of Goarion battles mini pack, a Legends Skull & Shackles mini pack, a Map pack, a Paladin ACG class deck, a skeletal champion mini, and more odds and ends.

* * *

Starting the ACG Season of the Plundered Tombs thing this morning. David, a local WA VC, runs and plays. #3-1A: Ambush at Burning Cape.

We have two Damiels (alchemists),a Seelah (pally), a Kasmir (witch), a Skizza (gunslinger). We spend a lot of time remembering how to play this game and get used to our characters.

Dark Archive 5/5 ⦵⦵ Venture-Captain, Minnesota—Minneapolis aka Silbeg

At "Invasion of the Dark Dimension" as wolverine (played by me) takes a killing blow, Mark says, "But Wolverine can't die!"

So GMery later Wolvey is at -1 and not bleeding out, nicely. I mean, we are superheroes, and it is only a APL+5 encounter. Ouch!

Having fun, though! If only Iron Man hadn't caught me in his Unibeam!

I'm not going to lie to you, we got smashed in our first attempt to finish the ACG #3-1A. We were rusty, learning our decks, the sun was in our eyes, and Todd 'freakin' Morgan cursed us by looking at us. No one died, but we didn't hit the win conditions in time.

We regroup. I go but the Warpriest deck and start anew. We try again and this time fortune smiles upon us (and Todd 'freakin' Morgan is distracted by a squirrel with a fluffy tail) and we kick much butt.

I know you all were worried, but don't be. We got this this time, yo.

Recap of Night 1: hit the Wayfinder dinner, and had a lovely and educational time with the ever-lovely Liz Courts, the ever-lovely Tim Nightengale, and about 20 Wayfinder contributors. Was asked what size of beer I wanted; I forgot, there is more than one size here. Turns out that Eric (whose last name I didn't catch but feel I should know, he has the infamous look about him) was correct: a tankard is the correct size.

Then it was time for the Aethera contributors game. Robert Brookes ran a scenario set in the first Pathfinder-in-space setting, with a full table of authors. I played an erahthi thornslinger - erahthi are like undines but connected to the elemental plane of wood, using plant symbiote technology. Robert is perhaps the best GM I have ever seen. Don't tell him, I'm taking him home in my luggage.

More recap to come, running to a seminar on using props in games! And I haven't even told you about the secrets I heard!

We interrupt this recap for breaking news. The Tarrasque has been spotted at the PaizoCon Delve table, which someone mistakenly posted Thurston Hillman at. At last word, the Tarrasque had been slain by Sarenrae (played by John Compton), who was summoned when Kyra's spiritual hammer spell failed to penetrate the Spawn of Rovagug's spell resistance. Valeros managed to retrieve the Gorilla King's life-sized diamond likeness while Meresiel banished Zahani to Tickle-ternity with a critical Disable Device roll. Alas, the price of summoning Sarenrae was too much for Kyra, who had a portion of her character sheet torn off by the Dawnflower's surprisingly-toothy maw, losing access to any ability no longer visible. (Most spells, Move value, and eventually Strength score as well). Ezren was last spoted riding a magic missile-spewing neollithid off into the jungle, still convinced that his Pathfinder Society-provided map was accurate.

Thanks to Thursty, John Compton, Jessica, Andrew and Jacob for one of the most memorable gaming experiences this correspondant has ever had. Hail Sarenrae!

Morning came way too fast.

Stood in line with some yahoo named John Compton. I commented how he would be such a perfect villain. He gave up being a good guy and turn evil. So if he goes rogue this weekend, I am sorry.

Seriously impressed by the amount of swag in the Paizo goody bag.
Was not so impressed by breakfast.

I accidentally missed muster as I just walked into the ballroom. Which I was not supposed to do. But I apperantly looked like I belonged so nobody stopped me.

Had an absolutely lovely game of Tome of Righteous repose with Hilary (Hmm) as the GMs.

Now I am in a game of To Seal the Shadow with some weird yahoo MisterSlanky as GM and noticable yahoos Pirate Rob and Jack Brown sitting in. The lovely Kevin Willis is here too and I have the pleasure of meeting Marcus Martin.
Mr. Slanky is not nearly as cranky as he wants us to believe. I did manage to get his tragic backstory of of him. (Something to do with fetchlings)
Jack's mustache is glorius to behold. Pirate rob really is a pirate.
Kevin and me are team fast halfling.

Ah, and we have arrived at the point of the game where MisterSlanky threatens to eat our babies.

Tineke's Stwupwafels really are delicious.

I can also see Painlord from here playing ACG.

I ran ACG demos this morning and even got to play a scenario from Plundered Tombs.

After having missed out since halfway through Wrath it was super exciting to get back in

I've made it to the con, only a few hours late. I ran into my favorite Pirate in the game store. We dropped our stuff in our room in the next county, then I headed to the ballroom where I found Painlord and Balodeck playing the Mummy's Mask card game. It's just in time for lunch so we headed to Mango to grab some food to go (delicious). The snark flows with us across the street and back again, then pools around our feet as Gabrielle and I join the next game with the two previous yahoos and David Montgomery, VC from the Massachusetts area., in the next game.

It is good to get to play with old friends and new friends at the same time.

Played The Confirmation this morning, loving my dim caveman PC. There was a very enthusiastic 10 year old at the table which was great. Thai food with family across the street--man it was good. Slept all afternoon and now trying to rouse myself for questing tonight.

Woah, I haven't posted yet. As Kate mentioned, she randomly ended up sitting next to me on the plane. Saw me browsing Green Market on my tablet, asked if I was going to PaizoCon. We then chatted, discovering that we both were technically oriented PhD types (in optics and physics), and so had a different nerdy sort of conversation than what you'd expect from two gamers heading to a con.

Ran Green Market Thursday afternoon at a table with 3 VCs and one guy completely new to Pathfinder. Was jolly. Thanks to a certain pair of gloves, I managed to avoid killing anybody....

Solstice Scar slot 0 was very useful prep, but went about 1.5 hours later than would have been ideal. In previous years, I've splurged for a single room, but am far too broke now. So, 4ish hours of sleep.....

Was assigned to Pathfinder Academy this morning, but only one table mustered, so spent 4/5 of the slot gaming at the other PSA stable with Rachel of Legendary Games and her two eight-year-old daughters. Suggested that the Nightglass novel in a daughter's swag bag was perhaps not age appropriate. Gave her my Dagger of Trust (which I already had), which might be OK.

A bit after noon, as I was cleaning up my non-table, a group of guys, walk-ups to the con, appeared looking for PFS games. All just had 1st level characters (one 2nd), and three were nearly or totally new to PFS (but not Pathfinder). I had Confirmation prepped, so I said I could do a table. (I had the afternoon open). Ended up gming a really fun table for Dirty Mike and the boys.

Still underslept.....

Today has been a good day. Played the Mummy's Mask ACG from 8amish to 5pmish with only a break for lunch and I have no regrets. Finished all 5 scenarios in the first book which is pretty keen.

The ACG Warpriest (Uliah) was pretty much my jam. Good healing, spells, and surprisingly melee punch options. Skizza the Gunslinger, the dwarf barb, and the excellently played witch (David from Mass) made our games good and fun.

+1 to VC David for playing with us throughout the afternoon even though his shift ended at 1pm. He played because he was enjoying it. We nailed down the first book today and so we can start the 2nd series later tonight or tomorrow.

At 7pm, I'm in the ACQ Open Qualifier which I think will resemble the thing I did at GenCon in 2015. It was fun and I'll hope for the best.

I ran over to Taco Hell for a quick dinner and that's fine. Ran into Lamplighter and we recapped our days.

After a much-needed nap, my evening game was Splinetered Worlds with Amanda Hamon Kunz as GM, and Benjamin B., Christen S., John S., Michael L., and James K. playing. Starfinder is awesome! I am really looking forward to the system!

Day 1 in the books!! Started with a great run of The Confirmation. Took the afternoon slot off after a trip through the store. Picked up the Adventurer's Guide and the Healer's Handbook. Relaxed for a bit until the evening slot.

In the evening slot, I managed to get one demo in and then roped into a scenario from Season of Plundered Tombs with Painlord and scored 1-1 on Scenario 3-2A.

Now for some sleep and ready myself for the ACG Open Qualifier 2, ACG with Kobolds, and the preview banquet tomorrow.

Oh man. So much to do, so little time to blog!

After MisterSlankies game, I ran into some yahoo Jon Dehning who I had promised licorice to. Good thing he reminded me, as I had brought licorice with me, but had completely forgotten who I had promised it to.

Jon then had a fun time feeding all kind of people licorice. Note: MrSlanky does not like it. At all.
Jon proceeded to be my perception check for aquiring Judy Bauer, with whom I had a dinner meeting with.

We had a good time but had to rush as food was late and we all had places to go to. That is the curse of GMing.

This evening I GMd another lovely table of House of Harmonius wisdom.
It went all over the place but in the end the party soldiered trough.

I had an invitation to go drink in some yahoo's room, but my players offered me a beer. So I went and did that instead. You have to tresure people that you can set on fire but still want to buy you booze afterwards.
