What happens to your deific obedience boons if you take Sentinel, then Evangelist?

Rules Questions

In the Deific Obedience feat's text, there's wording to indicate you don't get both the Evangelist boons for normal level-up and the boons from a prestige class, but there doesn't seem to be anything indicating you can't get multiple boons from different prestige class sources.

If you take Sentinel, then take Evangelist (setting Sentinel as your aligned class), do you get the boons from both prestige classes?

A class, not a prestige class. When an effect of a prestigious affect a class it can't target prestigious classes.

Certain prestige classes (see page 198) gain access to these boons at lower levels as a benefit of their prestige class. If you have no levels in one of these prestige classes, you gain the boons marked as exalted boons. If you later take levels in sentinel or evangelist, you lose access to the exalted boons and gain access to the new boons appropriate to your class.

So apparently you can get the bonuses from two classes, but unless your campaign go well over level 20 it is almost impossible to get more than 4 boons (2 from each prestige class or a level 1 and a level 3).

This is not how subsets work

Is it noted somewhere that prestige classes don't count as classes? I'd understand if the wording was "core class" or "base class" or something like that, but I figured a class is a class is a class?

As you can see there is some minor dispute over whether you can even select a prestige class with the aligned class ability.

If for the minute we assume you can (I am personally on the fence on that particular point) if I were GM'ing I wouldn't allow you to take sentinel in any event - no strong rules basis, it feels contradictory to me.

If we assume your GM allows prestige classes and sentinel, based on the wording of the feat I'm going with you only get the sentinel boons. I can see an argument for you choosing either one set, but very little support for you getting to either mix and match or both sets of abilities.

It is not clear cut though, and I am quite happy if someone else finds a little gem that makes it clearer. Definitely one to talk through with your GM.

The boons are granted by the feat, not the PrC. The PrCs allows you to access boon early and potentially a different set of boons depending on which PrC you take.

Given that, since the feat only grants 3 boons, 3 boons is all you can ever have. If you took Sentinel and then Evangelist, you would have to pick which boon you wanted at each level. I would allow you to progress Sentinel with Evangelist under these guidelines.

There are many threads debating whether or not you can use aligned class for a prestige class.

Pro: Subset such as poodle is a dog.

Con: None of the listed example classes are prestige classes.

Nothing in any of this gives you access to more than three boons.

If you reach 3rd level as an Evangelist, you get the 1st Evangelist boon and not the Sentinel boon.

If you reach 3rd level as a Sentinel, you get the 1st Sentinel boon and not the Evangelist boon.

If you reach 12th character level with 2 or fewer levels in each class or if you are able to set up the Aligned Class mechanic to reach 3rd level in both prestige classes at the same time, you get to choose between the Evangelist and Sentinel boons since you have lost access to the Exalted boons.

The 2nd and 3rd boons would work in a similar way.
