Red Hand of Doom - E6

Recruitment

51 to 95 of 95 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

So Iris won't be able to form an entire mercenary company or thieves' guild using hirelings. There go her dreams!

None of us could take Leadership, but there is the Recruits feat available at level 5. It gives a number of cohorts equal to half one's level, only one of whom may travel with the character at any given time.

Holy crap. I think I just discovered something amazing.

1. Cavaliers can grant their teamwork feats to allies that normally wouldn't qualify (they ignore the prequisites).
2. This includes Amplified Rage. Yes, that means ignoring the race prereq (half-orc or orc).
3. Skalds provide a rage effect via song. They also have proficiency in all martial weapons, so they're allowed as Aide de Camps.
4. That inspired rage can benefit from Amplified Rage...

This means that Bors' brother is going to be a Skald, and I can potentially give all the melee characters in the group a +6 bonus to STR and CON for the duration of a fight (or +8 to Bors). Holy crap is this awesome.

If you think this is fine, that's what I'll design Cam as (a skald instead of an armored hulk). If you'd rather I not do that, let me know.

Sir Bors is pretty much done, as is Cam. Skills, feats, and core equipment has all been filled out. Little things like rations and backpacks and sleeping bags need to be added still, but that'll come. No more magic items will be bought, and there shouldn't be any other weapons added to these sheets, so what you see is what you get.

I bought a traveler's any-tool for Bors so we can whip up a crowbar, shovel, or whatever we may need whenever we want it. It can also serve as masterwork artisan tools, so that's nice.

The background has been changed so that Cam was apprenticed to a bard, not a blacksmith or herbalist. I added personality and appearance sections as well.

I really like this pair and hope to be able to play them in this campaign.

EDIT: Oh, spells I settled on for Cam: Mage Hand, Read Magic, Detect Magic, Spark, Mending, Sleep, Saving Finale, and Ear-Piercing Scream. Later on I plan to grab Message, Charm Person, Heroism, and either Invisibility or Glitterdust. And as a note, Inspire Courage and Inspired Rage do stack, so I don't see Cam's abilities conflicting with anyone.

EDIT 2: Also, gonna swap the falchion on Cam for a scimitar and heavy wooden shield. He can always drop the shield and two-hand the scimitar for extra damage, but the shield should be much more valuable to him until he gets Power Attack (which Bors will give him when he gets his first post-6 feat).

That would be neat, and hinges on the rage benefit provided by the skald aide-de-camp's song counting as the cavalier having the rage class feature. I can see how it kind of sort of does. If not, then he could always take one level of barbarian. My rogue could benefit from such a scheme.

Sounds fun.

Will cook something up in a bit.

Actually she has to have it independently, but she seems to. From the Ronin/knight errant order, as far as I can tell.

Actually, its NOT the Order I chose. Bors has Barbarian Rage because Bors is a Cavalier with Variant Multiclass Barbarian (and gave up his level 3 feat for it). That's why Bors was able to take Amplified Rage.

Now, basically in order for this to work, Bors has to spend a standard action to give everyone the teamwork feat (and it only lasts 5 rounds right now, and only is usable 1/day until we hit level 5). Then Cam the Skald has to use Raging Song in the same turn and give everyone Inspired Rage. Then everyone only benefits from Amplified Rage if they're tag-teaming a monster with someone (I.E. adjacent to an ally or flanking).

But if those conditions ARE met, that's +8 STR/CON for Bors (because he has a normal Barbarian Rage) and +6 STR/CON for everyone else (because they're using Inspired Rage).

I listed VMC Barbarian in my myth-weavers sheet, but now realize I didn't list it on this website. I'll fix that.

EDIT: Though now I realize Bors would have had to use the Retraining rules to get Amplified Rage and have paid the gold cost for that at level 3, since it wasn't something I could take at level 1 BUT is something I could retrain my old teamwork feat into as soon as Bors got Barbarian Rage (level 3). I'll subtract the appropriate wealth. (10x3 [level 3]x5 [5 days to retrain feats]=150g.)

EDIT 2: Also, basically all the Knight Errant Order does is give Bors rerolls on his will saves (on the 2nd round of an effect's duration), survival and knowledge: local as class skills, and potentially getting +2 attack/AC against enemies when "the target of a challenge, a smite, a quarry, or similar effect, and he issues a challenge against that character in return." Yeah, the challenge bonus probably won't come up very often at all. It's very fitting flavor-wise, though.

EDIT 3: Oh - on the Cavalier's Banner ability, should I specifically get a flag to use, or would Bors' tabard work fine? I can always buy a flag and shove it into one of Cam's hands. I'd much rather use a tabard and have the colors/symbol painted on Cam's wooden shield, though.

And I've finished purchasing items. I think I got all the core stuff, plus a little extra. Bors is dragging along 20 pounds of firewood just so a campfire can be made in places where deadwood isn't readily available.

Does the medium load armor check penalty stack with the armor check penalty from my full plate, or do I just take the higher penalty of the two?

Bors' sheet with items.

Cam's sheet with items.

Interesting scheme. So we're a makeshift band of heroes that is actually a band. I'm super glad I'm riding an ox now, we can just go in on a wagon and have a stage for Cam.

Dotting (even though Paizo is messing up the dots for me). I like E6, but I want to read more about the characters to see if I can build something interesting as some of the people are suggesting here ;)

Glad to hear it's not just me feeling the forums acting up.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Things have certainly been interesting so far. I'm more of a Fighter 5/Brawler 1 guy myself for E6, so seeing all these colorful things has been interesting!

I built a Ley Line Guardian Witch. It looks good! I'll have it complete tomorrow. :)

Well, Cam's actually only going to be singing, not playing an instrument, so I guess he's more of a solo act holding a microphone with one hand and cutting people with a sword in the other. Close enough, though?

But not really. Cam's the only musician here from what I can tell. Everyone's getting mad, so it's more of a... a metal singer creating an instant mosh pit. Yeah.

Ooo, I like that. We could use a full caster, and witches are versatile with those debuffs (and can somewhat fill the healer role). Plus, it Bors someone to have to protect.

Iris's game info is settled. I will only augment her description and backstory from this point onward, unless there is such a thing as greater reduce person that will allow her to pass through keyholes. I swapped out the ledge walker rogue talent for minor magic (detect magic).

Hmm. Looks like we'll need to focus on using either ten foot poles or Dispel Magic to disable magical traps, but that's not a big problem (since we CAN detect them without issue still). Mundane traps are definitely not going to be an issue with your high Disable Device.

Chess here with my Witch. A Samsaran from strange lands with a strange name and strange roots - a tall, thin, blue like mysterious man who wandered half the world during his very long life :)

Asher:
Asher is a drifter, after washing out of attempting to join the Black Griffon Company in Korvosa, an Elite unite meant to defend the City-state of Korvosa as the spies of the Crown. He's honestly not sure why he washed out...or even that he actually did; but he woke up on a boat heading south across Lake Encarthan, with a tremendous headache, a black eye and a broken rib, and very few belongings. He has vague memory of taking shots of curdled blood with a troll covered in smelly smoke and a beautifully hued shawl. The wagon-driver said he was paid a hundred crowns to take Asher to Druma, and tell him he if he returns he will be arrested.
Asher has sworn off alcohol, although that likely won't actually stand. He grew up the second cousin to a Lord in Cheliax, so while not really ever having money, he grew up around money. He was warded to the Lord by his parents, who had got into a spot of financial trouble with a shipping scheme to Isger. He therefore is a bit of a conflict in himself: he's poor, but acts like he's wealthy, mostly from mimicking his cousins, who were spoiled beyond belief, and envying their positions. He feels that poor people are poor because they are lazy, and is a bit prejudiced against the short races, feeling they are not "humanoid", but make great servants.
Asher loves a good meal. Ribs, rich pastas, cheeses of all varieties, avocados and seafood...you name it, if it's well-made, he wants it. He is a fan of the way they cook in Andoran, although he would never admit it around his relations.

When Asher arrived in Druma, he just couldn't do it, so he started south, crossing the Five Kings Mountains, to look into an old friend. Tomorrow he'll hit a dreamy little stain called Penwith, where his friend lives, near the northern border of Andoran. Sigh. Likely there will be no one who knows their way around a kitchen there. All he wants is to find a place to stick his head in the sand, and make a few coins, which he is dreadfully low on, and perhaps find a woman. His days of mantras and katas and martial training and purpose of defending his homeland are done.

He wishes to wake from this unshaved nightmare and have his life back...with purpose. But having never had one, he's not sure who he should ask to give him one.

Asher is a Monk 2 (Master of many styles, Martial artist), and will be taking levels of Magus (2) (Kensai, Bladebound, Mindblade). He is Neutral Good, I suppose. I tend to play character, not alignment, but I'd follow the DM's lead in this. He is a little of an idealist, wanting an external life that conforms to his values, but not understanding his own values yet. He's curious, quick to implement ideas, adaptable, and can be a catalyst. He is avarice, definitely feels he wants to have it all, never feeling satisfied with what he has. He feels he will never be happy, until he finds what has always been missing. He does not know what that is.

Asher has a secret: he always actually disliked Korvosa. The people, the culture. He wants something more distanced from the greed of Cheliax, which he unfortunately exemplifies. This stems from a fear of life; he feels his life is not good enough, not worthy, easily overlooked, thus his nature of avarice. But he's never had a home he cared to defend enough to call it home.

Looks interesting. I really like the fluff of him.

That said, your archetypes are heavily overlapping; The Kensai and Mindblade archetypes certainly replace the same things, and both the Mindblade and Bladebound messing with arcane pool is dubious.

Likewise, MoMS and MA don't stack.

Well, I don't need the martial artist, to be fair. :) Kensai is the important one for me, but I understood they were all comparable. But it wouldn't be necessary, just something I was interested in. :)

A note on Monk: you'd have to be Lawful instead of Neutral Good unless you take the Martial Artist archetype. It's the only monk archetype that can be non-lawful.

I do get the feeling that Asher may at once rub off badly on Bors due to certain attitudes and could eventually grow on him (but possibly with Bors deciding to smack some sense into him a few times before then).

To put it this way: with Asher looking down on halflings and poor people, I get the strangest feeling that if everyone that applied got in, he'd be the butt of more than a few jokes. But that could lead to character growth all around, and I'm willing to wager you originally wanted to give him the 'good' tag for a reason. Character development is awesome.

EDIT: Also, may I suggest finding a way to snag Mage Armor later? I'm not a magus player myself (though people in the games I've run love them), but isn't there a way for the Magus to add wizard spells to their spell list? Maybe I'm going crazy, actually.

He is a good guy, yes. Part of his arc would likely include getting...well...woke, I suppose, lol.

I'm fine with lawful. It's one of my least favorite things about Monks, but, eh, whatcha gonna do? I view LG as pretty zealetous. Lawful neutral is unbending tradition. Sort of Ned Stark, as it were. I prefer goodness, and like discipline, and will play him LG, if requested.

I've not played a magus yet, but I imagine that'd be good.

As for wizard-spells on the magus spell list, that's a high-level thing. You could just about manage it as a pure magus, but I think the monk splash will trip you up on that count. Or maybe you can hack it with 4 magus levels and Extra Arcana past 6th, I'd have to look closer to be sure.

Regardless, the rule on archetype stacking is anything that alters or replaces the same feature is incompatible, so out of the ones listed, the only ones that stack are Bladebound and Kensai.

In other news, I think it's time recruitment draws to a close. Let's say friday is the deadline for characters; make sure you have your fluff and crunch done before then!

Well, Bors and Cam are fluffed and crunched and ready to roll. Fingers crossed.

Wait...so who made it in?

By the sounds of it, the GM will decide on or after Friday.

Yes, I'll decide most likely during the weekend.

Asher Merivingion wrote:

Just to be clear, no-one has made it in yet - and no-one will before friday. We're still open.

But you need both a completed sheet and fluff to be picked.

Currently complete characters:

Bran O'Rim, by Hubaris
Zelligar the Mystic by Aldizog
Yulai Sakura by Ash..
Iris Farthingstone by Sean Wesley
Bors (and Cam) by Raphaele Flickerlamp/Inlaa

Am I missing something?

Isawa doesn't seem to have a backstory.

oops what am I missing or need to do?

I revised Iris to make acrobatics and movement very much her primary focus and added a little to her backstory and description.

Shishka wrote:

Just mod your statblock to use the rules for character creation.

Hi GM! I'm sorry, I thought I had put the backstory here already. It's now all updated, and I added some paragraphs for appearance and behavior as well. I hope it's all in order now :)

Sorry just a final couple questions before any finalizations.

First question, are you allowing VMC with Regular multiclassing?
If so, can one switch a Domain for an Inquisition as per the base Inquisition rules?

Spoiler:

Inquisitions are like domains. Other classes that use domains can take inquisitions but inquisitions are typically weaker than the domains those classes can already choose because they don’t grant domain spell slots or domain spells.

Just in case the party need a face, Bran can do so with a little VMC magic.

As far as party faces go, Sir Bors has Intimidate +12, Diplomacy +10, and Bluff +7 as well Sense Motive +6; then Cam has Intimidate +8 so he can help Bors with being spooky. And I know others have their face skills well trained, too. (Iris: Bluff 8, Disguise 7. Isawa: Intimidate 10. Asher: Sense Motive 6. Yulai: Diplomacy 10. Zelligar: Diplomacy 4, Sense Motive 7. And then there's you, Hubaris, with Sense Motive 6.)

Overall, we have a smattering of face skills on most characters. Bors is the most well equipped for that right now, but it wouldn't hurt to have a second diplomacy/intimidate/etc. specialist.

Yes, to both questions. Obviously you only gain the power of the inquisition available at first level.

I can swap a potion for a couple of disguise self scrolls... That, coupled with Iris's goblin mask and her ability to speak goblin would allow her to pretend to take the rest of the party prisoner and escort them deep into enemy territory.

Heh, I had a similar idea for Bors and Cam. "WE ORCS! WE TAKE HUMANS PRISONER! RAAAAAGH!"

Well, I know I'm late to the party, but saw that you're running an old classic and wanted to throw my hat in. Tal'ariel Rhuidon is an Elf Rogue/Wizard specializing in the Elven Curve Blade. I think of her as a throwback to a multi-class Mage/Thief. Alternatively, you can think of her as an E6 Arcane Trickster. Stats and background are in the linked alias profile.

Okay. I'm going to go with this list for people chosen.

Bran O'Rim, by Hubaris
Zelligar the Mystic by Aldizog
Yulai Sakura by Ash..
Iris Farthingstone by Sean Wesley
Tal'ariel Rhuidon by Tazo
Isawa Ayoshi by adsapiens

Please report to the OOC!

Sorry to everyone that didn't get in.

Y'all have a good game!

Thanks, Bors. Good luck with other recruitment.

cool. have fun. I was just about to post that I can't commit to this so was withdrawing but no need for that.

hope ya all have a great game.

Our gameplay and discussion threads are borked, along with the rest of those two boards.

As such, our game is on a hopefully very temporary hiatus until paizo gets around to unborking it.
