A new DUNE movie has been greenlit with Denis Villeneuve (ARRIVAL, BLADE RUNNER 2049) to direct.

The plan at the moment is for a movie (or two) of DUNE (and maybe more for the sequels) and a spin-off TV series at some point.

I'm hoping for a two-film adaptation of DUNE, maybe another film each for Books 2 and 3 and then kind of forget that everything else exists (and certainly don't touch the non-canon sequels-and-prequels-by-other-people with ua 50-foot bargepole).

Okay if you wanna get back to the OP here it is. Kinda moot but Quark Blast what are your thoughts?

Sure, why not?

I don’t think most people consider 390 million “closing in on half a billion”

I would call it “slightly more than half of what Spider-Man made in six days”

$390 million would feel a lot like "closing in on half a billion" to me.

$390 million is a shade over a third of a billion. $475 million is closing in on half a billion

While you might “feel” that $390 million is getting very near to 500 million, it is still 110 million shy. Adding the further context that in the 12 days since my initial statement it has managed to go from 390 to 394, I’d say it lacks the momentum the original poster was claiming it had to reach half a billion theatrically.

$394M box office + $106M streaming = $500M, aka half a billion dollars!

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah you made that claim last time and didn’t back it up then either. Every article about Dune’s profit back in October indicated that it wasn’t earning any money in streaming, so where did you get the $106 M (which coincidentally is the exact same amount it made in the US)

What can I say? Work on your Google-Fu, obviously.

And uncoincidentally the US box office = $107M

Googling “Dune streaming profit 100 million” turned up nothing last time. Googling “Dune streaming profit 106 million” turned up nothing today.

Google does however show article after article from the first few weeks of Domestic Release that says Dune is doing well “despite its profitless day and date streaming release.”

So instead of telling someone to work on their Google-Fu, how about - for maybe the first time ever - cite the source of outlandishly specific claim that pages and pages of Google results can’t corroborate.

106,985,276 > 107M. That’s around 14K away from being able to use an equal sign.

This was an absolute masterpiece!

A little 'captain obvious' maybe but, hey, this is the Maestro-of-Tales talking here and we should listen.

Well no actually. You seem to have listed 11 nominations when Dune only got 10.

Best Director nominees are:
Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza)
Kenneth Branagh (Belfast)
Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog)
Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car)
Steven Spielberg (West Side Story)

I believe that’s six nominations shy of your original predictions

Oh No! You uncovered my "inadvertent" and nefarious plot!

I confess and here's an edit of the reality:

Best Director (Well they missed this one!)

Best Adapted Screenplay (Well yeah!)

.

May it be.

And so it is.... or close enough.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

It may be close enough to 10 but your original prediction listed 17 categories.

Well yeah, of course!

Like "Best Short", "Best International Feature", "Best Documentary", etc. weren't really in the cards.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah you didn’t predict inapplicable categories in your original list, which I’m sure you remember posting, it was multiple sound, multiple design nominations and all those cast members.

The movie has a real shot at these Oscar categories, in no particular order:

Best Original Score

Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Director

Best Picture

Best Film Editing

Best Sound Editing

Best Sound Mixing

Best Costume Design

Best Art Direction

Best Visual Effects

Best Actor - Timothée Chalamet

Best Supporting Actor - Oscar Isaac

Best Actress - Rebecca Ferguson

Best Supporting Actress - Sharon Duncan-Brewster

Quark Blast's original predictions from October.

I see no predictions for "Best Short", "Best International Feature", "Best Documentary"

Oh, I thought the complaint was about there being only 17 categories listed. Hence listing a few that were inapplicable to represent all the inapplicable ones.

At any rate I was simply listing the possible ones originally.

You know, "real shot" "must be nominated".

Reading for comprehension is a broadly useful skill. Just say'n. Try it sometime and you might see it works for you. Clearly it can't hurt.

Knowing the actual categories available for nomination is a broadly useful skill. Just sayin. Try it sometime and you might see it works for you. Clearly it can't hurt.

Got it.

You make a bold claim, waffle on it and claim a win no matter what happens. Just like with the box office that performed WAY below your claims.

Why? I don't care what they call a given category. They change all the time. As long as I got the bases covered I'm good.

I’ll freely admit to pedantry in trying to make sure the things you post that are untrue are corrected. I’ll own up to arguing against your opinions. I’ll even gladly cop to the fact that I have responded to your snide antagonism with equal measure.

What is beyond the pale is your responding to being called out by attacking my home life, as if you know the first thing about me. You’ve been doing it for just about a year now, taking a thing I say about my life and intimating that my forum usage somehow invalidates it. “you don’t have time for the job you claim to have if you’re here posting.” “Someone with a family wouldn’t post here as much”. As if multitasking weren’t a thing.

Now you go to these more accusatory remarks.

No you don’t get to “I’m rubber you’re glue” on this one. If your response to criticism of your behavior is to attack someone’s home life YOU are the one who needs to grow up.
