Trapfinding without class levels?

Advice

Is there a way to get the rogue Trapfinding ability without any class levels? I have a player who wants their Eidolon to be able to find traps/be our rogue.

Magic items, feats, anything that doesn't need levels in a class would work. Thanks in advance.

There's a trait.
Can an Eidolon get traits through a feat?

With the Extra Traits feat they can. That is a great option! Thanks Downie!

Are there any other options? I'd prefer not to use a campaign trait unless we are in that AP.

Um... you could go without the Trapfinding ability? Anyone can find and disarm traps if they have the skills and they remember to search. You'd just have to use something else to disarm magical traps (like 'Dispel Magic' or 'poking it with a stick and hoping for the best').

It is debatable whether an eidolon can do this, but VMC Rogue grants Trapfinding at 3rd level.

Yeah...there is debate about how trapfinding works to some extent.

Or rather there is debate about how finding traps in general works.

The problem being that most perception checks are reflexive, meaning you aren't actively looking for things but you observe them anyways. Like a stealthy creature hiding. You're usually not looking for them directly, unless knew they were already there. You just get a check to notice them.

Many people apply this to traps as well. However, some people argue that you shouldn't apply it to traps because it makes trapfinding redundant. Other say it gives you a second chance to find traps.

Edit: I'm thinking of trap spotter. Crap.

Anyways. Trapfinding isn't necessary. It's a good bonus on perception checks to find and disable traps, and the ability to disable magical traps.

But as Matthew Downie notes, magical traps can be disabled via dispel magic. And regular traps can be taken care of by having a good perception check and disable device skills. Buy some masterwork tools for disable device. Maybe grab some trapspringer's gloves.

Oh yeah, I forgot my favorite method of disabling traps. Wand of mount. 1st level spell. Last 2 hours. You get it to walk in front you and set off the traps.

Thanks folks.

I run a roguelike Eidolon, and my solution has been keeping scrolls of Aram Zey's Focus on hand. Trapfinding in a can. Skilled evolution means that UMD is pretty much a given. Plus, no need to spend one of your precious few feats.

The Trapfinding trait is a Campaign Trait, meaning it technically doesn't apply to normal settings. I wouldn't rely on a GM allowing it.

The Trapfinding Trait is likely to be allowed in any campaign where there's going to be a whole lot of traps and finding them is super important, just so nobody feels obligated to play a class because "someone in the party has to spot traps" . That's why it was written for Mummy's Mask in the first place. If it's not allowed in your campaign, that's probably because traps aren't going to be a huge deal.

March forward through hallways... IF the eidolon explodes, that's a good sign a trap is present.

Oddly enough, "poking it with a stick and hoping for the best" is the preferred method of a number of players I've gamed with.
