There is a group of spells whose area is defined by a range followed by a number of targets "no two of which can be more than 30' apart".

Is there something that allows me to change the 30' part? Widen spell is out, as it works only on a few geometric shapes.

Vast Spell:

You can alter a spell that targets a number of creatures no more than 30 feet apart, such as haste. The maximum distance apart of those you target with the spell increases to 60 feet.

Yep, Gallant speaks truth. The Vast Spell metamagic feat is the best way to go, and perhaps the only way to go, for what you're asking.

Assuming you meant spells, sure, plenty.

There's tons of spells with the "no more than 30' apart" limiter. The mass version of almost any spell (mass cure light wounds, etc.) has that text. Blessing of fervor. Lots of others, but I don't know that anyone has made a full list.

yep, Vast Spell metamagic(+1) to the rescue.

hmmm... I can't say it's something I'd take as usually foes are grouped and feats are at a premium. This could be replaced by a Pearl of Power and another casting or waiting until they are clustered or in range (battlefield control). If you're in the right campaign though it could be useful.
Have you considered Reach Spell metamagic? That would put your cluster further out there for earlier application. The feat is great for Touch or Close range spells.

I suspect our bard would have considered it, seeing how many times he tried to cast haste on all the group and he did find that he had to choose between the forward half of the group or the rear half. Generally, he was in the middle of the initiative order and the fast melee guys had already moved forward and engaged when his turn came.

It is one of those metamagics that gives a better return if you are a spontaneous spellcaster.


yea. my bard, unless the party buy him a metamagic rod of vast spell wouldn't bother dropping a 4th level spell for hasting the few fools who can't ready or delay until he buff. (not that his +9 to initiative make it common ether way). he doesn't have that many 4th level spells to begin with.

remember he's a spontaneous caster, using metamagic takes longer for him and he'd like to use the same round to also drop inspire courage (since at level 7 he get both haste and the ability to move action the performance). id like to use my rounds for other stuff beside making the rest of the party look more bad-ass while im spending round after round buffing.

they want the buff, they can delay a few micro round segments for it.

Say that to the Inquisitor in that group. My character still recalls in horror her "I take that corridor to circle the enemy, so I get 1d6 extra damage with Precise Strike." And all others shouting "No!".
She did go down the corridor and we ended fighting a 13th level wizard (at 8th level) beside the monster we were already fighting.

I am a transmuter and I do often miss a player or two in a haste spell. It isn't the end of the world but someone can be miffed for being left out.

I think it is more useful when attacking the enemy...your friends might stay bunched up patiently for a haste but your enemies are rarely as considerate when you want to slow them.

We are going to level 20 and I could get a quickened vast slow option with spell perfection.
