MOVE EARTH

This spell can move earth much more quickly, with each full round of casting allowing you to reshape a 25-foot-square area up to 10 feet deep. All creatures on or under the ground within that area are knocked prone and moved to the closest square outside the area being shaped. A successful Reflex save prevents a creature from being knocked prone, but it's still moved.

Does this mean a 25 square foot area, ie, one 5' square? Or does it mean 25 feet on each side, ie, a 5x5 square?

A 5'x5' area is 25 square feet, not a 25 foot square. Also note that the 5'x5'x10' is less likely than 25'x25'x10'.

So this is basically 25'x25'x10'.

It is a 25 foot square. It is not 25 square feet. so it would be 5 squares length 5 squares width and 2 squares depth.

Thanks. That's how it seemed reasonable to interpret it, but I wanted to run it by folks since I wasn't sure.

Ah, the ever-annoying confluence of the terminology for areas.

As others have said, 25-foot square means "a square with 25-foot-long sides".

25 square feet means "a square with 5-foot-long sides giving an area of 25ft^2"

Which brings up the fact that 25 square feet and 25 feet squared mean the same thing, and it's different to 25-foot square, which is 625 feet squared.

Hey, at least we don't need to figure out a consolidation of squares and acres (acres are area measurements, but not square, they're a chain by a furlong).
