Making sure my initiative is lower then an allies.

Advice

So a BBEG I am making has a pet Phoenix that he tortured into submission. Anyway during combat the Phoenix uses it's Spell Like Abilities to help the BBEG pull off combos and focus people. To do this I need the Phoenix casting before the BBEG, so is there a way to make sure the BBEG always goes after the Phoenix? I don't care if other people go before either of them just that the Phoenix is doing stuff before the BBEG. So is there a way to do this?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Have the BBEG delay until after the Phoenix. Seems like the simple solution.

As mentioned, your BBEG just delays his action (if he needs a full round action at that time) or he readies an action to do something after the Phoenix does his thing.

Yeah, just delay as Wraithguard said.

This is one of the two purposes of delayed actions. Syncing your actions with with allies so it is more convenient.

The other is an 'if then' thing used against enemies. As in 'if he tries to draw his weapon, then cut him down'. The mexican standoff action, basically.

I did not know about delayed actions. So thank you for the tip!

It is understandable that you didn't know. Most of the time, it is better just to take your action. It does have its uses, in situations like this, where you want to perform an act after a spell buff.

IT is also useful in social situations, where you prepare to act if things go sour while the party faces does teh talking.
