My warpriest gets 1 combat feat at level 6. Help me find something odd / interesting?

Advice

At levels 3/6/9+ a warpriest gets a free feat, but it must come from the list of combat feats. The warpriest gets to use his/her level as BAB and can select fighter-only feats, which opens up a few extra goodies.

I am trying to get my warpriest to do fun interesting things, since I'm in a group of 6 that already has all the bases covered. So for example, at level 5, I took the non-obvious Friendly Switch feat, so that I could help allies escape from monsters with reach. (The idea: if you are going toe-to-toe with a large size monster, and it has reach, and your hit points get low, you cannot escape without taking AOO even if you're using the withdraw action, so I use Friendly Switch to swap the PC back 5' for free, which then enables their withdraw action to work. That might seem niche, but we're playing Giantslayer, so monsters with reach is pretty much 100% of the fights.)

So at level 6 I get a new combat feat, and I get to pretend I'm a fighter with full BAB for prerequisites. I want something interesting and fun. It doesn't have to help me be powerful, although that's OK. But cool actions or abilities would be awesome. The list of combat feats is huge. So I thought I'd come here and ask for help. Maybe you guys already know of some cool things for the warpriest to select? Let me know. Thanks!

Here are the feats I already have:

  • Human: Toughness
  • Lvl 1: Fast Learner
  • Warpriest 1: Weapon Focus (greatsword)
  • Lvl 3: Power Attack
  • Combat Feat 3: Fortified Armor Training
  • Lvl 5: Friendly Switch

i would go with either Furious Focus or Shield of Swings....

Weapon Spec., Furious Focus or Lunge are the obvious choices. Vital Strike is usually a bad idea, but for a warpriest cheating the BAB requirements it could be quite nice. Disruptive is a useful prereq to some other feats.

And if you really can't decide, then Barroom Brawler gives you a floating feat for 1 minute per day.

There are some interesting Weapon Mastery feats. Taking Martial Focus with your bonus feat at 6th would allow you to take one of them at 7th level.

Difficult Swings is one I like a lot, but it's better for a reach build. Still, you could use it to keep enemies from being able to get a full-attack off against you. Full attack turning the squares adjacent to you into difficult terrain for your enemies only. Then 5-foot step away. They can't 5-foot to follow on their turn, so they have to take a move action. Again, this is better if you've got a reach weapon, as you would also get an attack of opportunity when they move forward. But it's good even without that part.

Cut from the Air could also be useful.

A lot of the Weapon Mastery feats seem to be ranged weapon focused, unfortunately.

Thank you guys! Lots to consider.

I'm in love with Lunge and Difficult Swings. Those are exactly the kind of "doesn't add damage but does something cool" options I was looking for.

However, in the end I've decided to take a sort of "double feat" cheat that will allow me to Vital Strike on a charge. It's silly -- it's exactly the damage multiplier that I said I didn't want, but all the players think you can't combine Vital Strike with a charge (they're both standard actions) so this feat combo will surprise them, and that's fun.

At level 6 I will take Vital Strike. At level 7 I could take the Divine Fighting feat, but for early access a warpriest is allowed to give up a blessing to get (some of) the feat, so I'll do that right away at level 6. I'm not sure if I need to do rebuilding rules, or if it's just dropped, but that's fine either way.

Under Divine Fighting, the Greatsword Battler has this text:

Weapon Master's Handbook wrote:
If you have the Vital Strike feat, you can apply its effect to an attack you make with a greatsword at the end of a charge. If you don't have the Vital Strike feat, that attack deals 1 additional point of damage instead. The first time you make an attack of opportunity with a greatsword after using Vital Strike with a greatsword on your turn, you can apply Vital Strike to that attack of opportunity.

With 3/4 BAB, this will help me at level 6 to keep up with the fighter's iterative attacks, and surprise the players with goodness.

Lunge & Difficult Swings up next. Thanks!!!

Warrior Priest is a good one:

I'm glad you found something that works for you. Greatsword Battler does look fun.

Keep in mind with Difficult Swings that you'll need Martial Focus in order to qualify, unless you have the Warpriest Archetype that gets Weapon Training. With the +6 BAB requirement on Lunge, you'd have to do something like:

7) Martial Focus
9) Difficult Swings
9B) Lunge

Do WP have the BAB for weapon specialization at 6th?

Scarab Sages

Yes, because their bonus feat gets to count their WP level as their BAB.

An often underrated feat...Blind Fight.

If your DM is a stickler for either Lighting Conditions, fogs or the use of Miss chances. Then it is a solid choice.

If damage is what you want then specialization is always a solid choice.

On classes like Warpriest that can get greater weapon focus easy enough I would avoid Furious Focus. I personally only like Furious Focus on builds with 1 hit like a Lancer, Vital Strike and such. But typically once you get your Itteritive attack the +1 to all attacks just performs better over the life of your character. Especially if you attempt any Combat maneuvers.

Edit: also if your DM/GM prefers using large or bigger critters in the later game (7+) the the Feat Big Game Hunter is very worth the investment. It's basically weapon focus- all and weapon specialization- All rolled into 1 feat.
