[FAQ Request] Ring of Spell Storing caster level

The wording of Ring of Spell Storing is ambiguous.

Quote:
A ring of spell storing contains up to 5 levels of spells (either divine or arcane, or even a mix of both spell types) that the wearer can cast. Each spell has a caster level equal to the minimum level needed to cast that spell.

Does the second sentence means that any spell put into a ring cast at minimum caster level? Variants are from what i see:

1. Spells are always at minimum caster level for the spell. (Spell storing weapon and armor does not have thos clause, so apparently they work differently)
2. Spells that are contained in the ring currently is at minimum caster level (as Scrolls - they are minimum caster level by default, but can be made at higher levels), but "A spellcaster can cast any spells into the ring, so long as the total spell levels do not add up to more than 5." and when he does he puts them at whatever level he decides.
3. They cast at caster level of the item (9th), which is unlikely and will lead to something like CL 9 Bow Spirit, even tho for ranger its min CL 13.

I wonder if people dont know the answer or they all agree that its minimum caster level new spells as well?

It's pretty straight forward to my eyes. It's option 1.

Big difference between the ring and the weapon / armor is the type of spells that can be loaded into the item and the fact that the ring can be loaded off of a scroll while the armor / weapon can not. Thus the ring can be used by any character with enough UMD while the armor / weapon are only useful if you can cast spells or have a caster on hand.

Well, when i first read it i thought that "that the wearer can cast" means a restriction "a wearer must be able to cast the spells to use the ring" rather than that wearer can "use the ring to cast the spells", but it seems not to be the case.

I just never seen before this type of effect that lowers caster level of the spell being cast and find it kind of strange.

You are restricted to the lowest level. It is not worded to make it optional.

I feel like its just poorly worded, but the idea is for them to work like scrolls. Scrolls are made at lowest level, but can be made at higher level if desired.

But if most people think it is any spell cast into ring becomes minimum level then i will go with it. I would imagine tho it would be said something akin to "regardless of the level of the caster"

Silver Crusade

Option 1.

It's clearly the first option.

That reminds me of "You may use this ability once per day at 3rd level" Void sorcerer crap... Oh well.

Not sure of the void sorcerer issue.

I thought we were not permitted to do things like "FAQ request" in the title?

I always thought 2, but could see 1 could be intent.

They frown upon it because it can appear to be demanding.

However, FAQ's live and die by their ability to maintain interest. If you post an FAQ request with a general Rules forum style title you may not generate enough member/player interest to accrue votes. There are many issues that the player base would like clarification on but if they don't know that that is what your thread is about they may not even click on it. I have seen many threads die because of this. So....I put FAQ in my FAQ thread titles because I want the other members to know what I am trying to do and to generate interest in the thread. It has worked very well for my Bard FAQ. It has maintained interest since August of last year and has 269 votes.

I just saw some threads named like that and thought its kinda keeping it orgranised - some reddits have that. If I knew it is in some way detrimental i would not do so.

Void sorecerer skill that he gains at 9th level say "You can use this ability once at 3rd level".
Well that is clear, is it not? Its clearly written that sorc can use his ability at 3rd level once. Except in the context and looking at other abilities we can see that intent was clearly just to make it "1 at lvl X and every Y level therafter", and for ability to be used only at level 9 when sorc get it.
