Taking 10 on Stealth

Rules Questions

Can you take 10 on stealth if all you want do do is sneak into a building, sneak past a hard or 2 that don't see you, and all you want to do is get in and find a good place to hide and to ease drop on a conversation?

Take 10... So you take 10 and then add the 10 to your ability score?

We play where 1's are failures. I'm not trying to open a an of worms so please, no comments on the house rule.

Thank you for your advice and insightfulness on the taking 10 issue.

Here.

Thanks I did read that, soot seems ok for this asking as the sneak factor and no attacks are to be made? Also +10 adds on to the skill roll?

"Take 10" just means "pretend you rolled the die and it came up a 10."

Normally, you calculate your current bonus for Stealth (Dex modifier - Armor Check Penalty + Skill ranks/Class skill bonus + any other bonuses or penalties), then add the die roll. When you take 10, you just add 10 to the Stealth bonus.

DMs call on whether the narrative role of the situation would allow for it or not.

Sovereign Court

If you want a reading to get around an annoying houserule - why not just use another houserule?

There is no rule preventing you from taking 10 with stealth.
As BNW says it is largely your GMs call, but (very) general wisdom states you should usually be able to take 10 unless you are distracted or threatened by something other than the action you are taking.
