Silver Crusade

The centaur, who is laying under the tree, remains quiet, as he expects that one of the others speaks up before him. Syr, who still sits on his back, also remains quiet.

Silver Crusade

Valeria sizes up the newly arrived young woman before hopping lightly down off of her mount. Despite the bulk of the armor, she seems to move with an inner grace, and the armor flows with her as if it's a second skin. She pats the bird and whispers something to her, at which point Kantaria coos softly and struts off to sit down in the shade. Valeria walks over to Azadeh. "So, you're looking to learn something about combat? Can I assume that will be more along the lines of how not to get hit, than how to hit hard? If that's the case, I can put you through a few drills."

Scarab Sages

The young woman looks up to the imposing woman in the dark plate armor. She nods. "Yes. Gordan say that... When revived, should test. Miss Jistkan Eques... Err... Knight." She ponders a bit, trying to form the words properly. "I... Feel magic. Was told that I was close to the dead. That..." She holds up one of her hands, which is splotchy with a pale ashen color. "Touch of death. Er.. Been touched by death."

The colorful tiny bird chirps in a strange, grave tone. "Yes. Azadeh has been involved with the undead. Not able to speak well due to her.. Ancestry. Knows more about Azlanti and Thassilonian. Heh. Considering she was recovered from the dark green Spire. Hehe..." The woman nearly swats the bird as it flies off, and lands on the opposite shoulder. It stares at her with one of its sunken, dark eyes.

The woman frowns at the bird. "Silentium avem. Rogo te ut non loquaris." She gestures to the bird. "It is... Parvcolavenimisquitur. It... Talks too much."

Azlanti:
"Quiet Bird. I did not ask you to speak."

Silver Crusade

Valeria barks out a quick laugh. "You wouldn't be too far off with "Jistkan Equestrian." The Hellknight ranks are based on ancient Jistkan military structure. Now, repeat what I do. Follow my motions and replicate them precisely."
Valeria begins to move through a series of defensive maneuvers with practiced ease, expecting Azadeh to follow along. Once she has repeated them three times, she pauses to watch Azadeh. At even the slightest deviation from form, she lashes out with an open mailed hand. The stoked correct the form, but sting. "Six thousand more repetitions and you may start to get the hang of it."

Scarab Sages

The tiny bird flies off to sit in the nearby tree while it watches Azadeh practice with the hellknight.

Azadeh goes through the motions with Valeria, trying her best to mimic the hellknight's form. Though of course, being new to this, Azadeh doesn't do it right the first few times. "Like this, yes?" Which receives a stinging corrections from the armored woman. "Ouch! Not like that, no. Right."

After a bit, Azadeh gets a form down from being taught by the imposing woman. But she decides to sit on the ground to rest from the training. "Six Thousand?... Sex milia!? Quod est nimis. Ego essem immortui ante multa perficere." She wipes the sweat from her brow before looking up at the Hellknight. "Miss Knight, six thousand may be too many for me. I have no... Armed training. I can... Shoot acid or send magic flying straight to enemy."

Azlanti:
"Six Thousand!? That is just too many. I would be a undead again before I'd complete that many."

Silver Crusade

Voren chuckles softly at Azadeh's exclamation, before walking over and offering a hand.
"Perhaps I might be of assistance? Though much of what I know would require years of study, I might be able to teach you enough to survive a potentially lethal blow. I may also be able to teach the use of some simple weapons, but let's focus on defense first."

Scarab Sages

Azadeh looks up at the monk with fiendish features with a blank stare. She closes her eyes for a moment before reaching up and accepting the man's offer. "Thank you. Gordan said to learn to defend. Know how to... Use a Morningstar, and rumpia... Longspear. And the kunai and sica, err, dagger. Gordan gave those... Armis to me. To help defend."

She dusts off her rear as she looks around a bit. "The... Silver Crusade, this place is, yes? To do good? How so?" She looks towards the imposing hellknight and then back to the monk. "Are the Society using jiskta knowledge?" She tilts her head after posing the question.

Silver Crusade

Valeria frowns at her student's lack of utter dedication. You'll find that I am far more forgiving than the demons and monsters that plague this world!" Her expression softens a miniscule amount as she looks over at Kantaria. "That's enough for today. Practice it, master it, turn it into a reflex, and it will save your life. It's funny you mention the Jistkans again, because that very routine kept safe from the attacks of the golems defending a Jistkan repository I secured two years back. Yes, we have dealings with Jistkan relics and sites regularly." As she relates her experience, she steps back to let Voren put her through his own routines.

"Doing good is a personal matter. I do my part by protecting citizens from bandits and outlaws. Lately, I have been establishing Hellknight relations with Mendev, to aid their efforts in defeating the demons of the Worldwound. I've also been taking an active hand in putting down demons myself, of course. Through the grace of the Inheritor, I also take turns in healing the sick and wounded, when able."

Silver Crusade

Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

"You'll have to forgive me, I don't remember much about Jistka apart from its defeat by Ancient Osirion."

Returning to the subject of training, he adds, "And Lady Wintrish is correct about ingraining maneuvers into reflex. If you have to think about dodging or rolling away from a blow, you will not likely react fast enough. The techniques I know will also require practice. I think you should learn which style suits you best and practice whenever possible."

Scarab Sages

Azadeh looks to the hellknight then back to the monk again. She seems to try to think about something, but decides against saying anything more about it.

She nods in agreement, though she seems put off by it though as she frowns slightly. "I understand. The world is dangerous, and need to defend self. Though, I have not thought how to defend." She emphasizes the last word somewhat. She frowns.

Silver Crusade

While Erik watches Voren and Valeria as they try to teach Azadeh more about defensive combat, Syr put his eyes on the little bird that came with the young woman. The centaur notices this and before Syr could do anything, Erik holds his hand out and says: "Syr, no!!! Don't even think about that!!!" Syr gives some kind of an annoyed stare to the centaur, but listens to him and stays down with his eyes still fixed on the bird.

Silver Crusade

Valeria mulls over how to respond to Azadeh while idly watching Erik's exchange with his companion. "Young Lady, if you seek a more existential answer, you need look no further than this gentleman to find an example of a defender. To defend is to take action to prevent unjust harm from coming to another."

Scarab Sages

The little thrush bird stares down the eagle with its dark, sullen, beady, eyes. It lets out a sickly chirp before speaking in a grating tone. "Heh. I doubt you truly want to eat me. Less you wish to become my master's new familiar through death. Hehehe...."

Azadeh chews a bit before speaking. "How?... Who. Gordan say to follow sages. To learn about past, about myself. Not sure anymore."

Silver Crusade

"Who..? Everyone! From the rich philanthropist to the pickpocket. All deserve to face what the future may bring them, or to strive to redeem themselves after they've paid for their crimes. It's easy to save a good man. It's a much harder thing to save a convict from an accidental death trap so that you might see him to his lawful execution, but it's still the right thing to do." Valeria speaks as though she's done exactly that before.

Silver Crusade

Facepaws "Whats the difference" You need him dead, dead's dead."

Silver Crusade

"The blade and the noose are mercy compared to drowning or many of the other traps I've encountered. If necessary, I would deliver justice myself before allowing those dangers to follow their course. But a stymied execution denies any victims the closure they deserve and fails to serve an example and deterrent to other potential offenders. Lastly, it's simply a matter of duty."

Silver Crusade

Erik speaks up: "Reinart is right at that point. He or she is gonna die, one way or another." He turns to Reinart: "But what are gonna do if you can't prove that he or she is dead?
Let's say the convict is trapped drowning by a trap that he actived by accident and you don't do anything to help him. He dies.
But if you return to the one who implored you with this task and tell him that your job is done, is he gonna believe you automatically? What if he wants to see a prove for your statement right now but you don't have any? Even if he or she is gonna go to the location of the convicts death, the corpse might be already be eaten or carried away by someone or something. And at the end you stand there empty-handed and being marked as a liar.
So after all it's better to rescue the convict and bring him alive to his rightful justice."

Silver Crusade

The Fox hmmms "Fish the skull out glue it together and hand it to the cleric for a little chat. Of course the church of saranrae has helped me develop techniques so that people don't become corpses when I hit them. Very sore and bruised yes, but not corpses. Some of my colleagues aren't so careful though. "

Scarab Sages

Listening to the recent argument, Azadeh tilts her head in confusion. Who are they talking about? If a man is to die, would it not be best to kill him quickly, or slowly, depending on if he slighted you personally or not? She thinks about the situation they are talking about. The little bird simply lets out a loud eerie laugh.

She shoots a quick look to the bird before turning back to the group. Maybe this Silver Crusade is not a good idea to bother with. So... Fractured about the right way of doing things. Maybe general knowledge may help me more. She gives a quiet bow of her head and turns to walk away. Hopefully I can find that... Grand Lodge library Gordan has told me about. As she wonders while she walks.

The bird simply sits in the tree for a while even after Azadeh has left before looking towards the group. "Hehe... Looks like Azadeh decided to leave to find other options. So, farewell! And may your light not dim when the dead come a-knocking.~" The little bird laughs as it flits off after its master when it finishes its message.

Silver Crusade

Erik and the others look after the Azlanti as she disappears through the building. He has a worried look on his face and says to himself: "I hope I didn't say something wrong. I didn't mean it."

Silver Crusade

Reinhart shrugs "people want good to be this 100% sure objective thing where you can know when you've got the right answers like one of kreighton shane's tests, and it isn't.Its situational judgement call every time that never lets you know if you're doing it right and above all its messy as heck and leaves you wondering whether what you did was the right thing or not

Silver Crusade

"And at the end it's sometimes always the search for your place in the world." Erik sighs.

While he stands there with Reinart and Valeria, still looking after Azadeh, Syr begins to pull on Eriks hair. "What is it, Syr?", says the centaur while he turns to his eagle. Syr responses with some flapping of his wings and some soft shrieks. Erik knows what Syr wants. So he trots back to where he put his bundle down, reaches into it and picks out some raw meat and a Falconry Gauntlet which he puts on his left hand. He turns around an let Syr climb on his hand. "You ready?", he asks his bird. Syr answers with energetic flapping. So Erik let his arm shot forward and the eagle flys to one of the other trees. Erik walks more into the open court while fixing the raw meat on a long leash. After doing that, he starts to rotate it.

If you ever saw a falconer in real life, like on a medieval festival , you can imagine the following scene. Just without multiple falconers and one centaur.

Voren gives a bow in return to Azadeh as she turns to leave.

"I wish you luck on your journey. Farewell."

Silver Crusade

While Erik and Syr are practicing on the court, a faint rumble enacts in the distance. If you look to the north east, you can see dark clouds coming towards the city. Followed by a white veil.

"Oh oh. We better head inside. Come here, Syr!!", says the centaur while grabbing his stuff. Syr just finished the piece of meat before returning to his masters back. Erik already put his bow, his quiver and his gauntlet back into the bundle, closes it and heads through the double door into the building. Inside was a long corridor, broad enough to for a carriage, which connects the court with the street on the other side. Erik heads through a door on the left side of the corridor. It is a little broader than normal doors, just broad enough that Erik fits through but he has still to bow down to not hit the frame.

The room is high enough that Erik can stand up right. His hoof steps are echoing from the stone floor. Around the room are several tables with chairs spaced out. On the Bar on the right side are several empty bottles and kegs. On the left side of the room is a staircase with a slope to roll up the barrels from the cellar. On the walls are pictures, portraits, shelves and some skulls and antlers. Torches and chandeliers illuminate the room with warm light. The chandeliers are hanging from wooden cross-beams.

Syr flies up to on of the beams while Erik hangs his bundle on a metal hock. Then he puts a chair aside from one of the tables and lays down.

Duration of Thunderstorm: 2d4 - 1 ⇒ (3, 3) - 1 = 5 hours

Voren follows the centaur in, taking a seat in an unoccupied corner. He pulls out a rather worn copy of The Birth of Light and Truth and cracks it open.

Knowledge (religion) DC 10:
The Birth of Light and Truth is the Sarenite holy book.

Silver Crusade

The man behind the bar looks up at the centaur as he enters the room. "Ah, greetings once again." He finishes wiping a tankard and places it onto the bar top. "Is there any food or drink I can get for you?"

He looks over to one of the windows as he hears a clap of thunder outside.

Survival to tell the weather: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

He nods knowingly. "I see. Looks like it's going to last about five hours. Might as well make yourself at home." He turns around and grabs a apron and puts it on before grabbing a decanter of water and two glasses before bringing the occupants a glass of water each.

He returns back to the bar. "Just ask when you are feeling hungry, alright?"

Silver Crusade

"Thanks, but for now I don't need anything", says Erik while looking out to the window. He's worried about the others who are still outside. He turns back to bartender: "Say, I though you're working in the temple of the SC. Did the others return back home or did you get supersede by a co-worker?"

Silver Crusade

The man shrugs. "I work where I am needed. And also, there are not many cooks within the Silver Crusade." He goes back to wiping glasses that are upon the bar top but pauses for a few seconds. "Well. At least from what I have seen. And if a boy or girl can make a living by working at a place, away from harm? I know I will let them be."

He places a glass down and picks up another. "Ya know, I was recently finalized to join the Society only a few week ago. Did my Confirmation in the Kortos Mountains, and then helped guide another new group through Diobel. So... I don't need to work at the bar that much anymore." He looks into the bottom of the glass, and then holds it for a bit. "But, as I said before, Food is the glue that holds the community together. And as Erastil as my witness, I'll do what I can to help out."

Silver Crusade

"Now that's a sight for sore eyes!" The woman in shining armor steps in from the weather, streaming water from openings in the full plate.

"Good, clean, natural weather!" her smile lights up the place as she doffs her Tian-styled helmet. A bit of Chelaxian accents her words, and her red hair, tipped with black frames her fair face, held in place by a headband. "It's so good to be back fully in Golarian. The Wound is not a place to live, that's for sure."

She looks over the assembled people and other...types. "I think we can all use some inside warmth, and some cheer." Three long-legged strides take her to the bar, and she slaps down a few gold-pieces. "Drinks all around, and a bite for me if you have it. The demons were in foul form this morning, and Inheritance did mighty work this day." She slaps one of the two greatswords on her back, and then pulls out a stool to straddle it.

Silver Crusade

"Well, in that case I don't say no", says Erik. He turns to Jack. "You have some non-alcoholic drinks too, beside water? I don't take alcohol very well. Just one keg, and I am unpredictable for the rest of the day. This is experience talking."

He looks back outside through the window of the court. The rain is pouring down like a waterfall at the moment. The court is completely empty. The members who were still outside since Erik entered, are gone. Maybe returned home.

Syr makes a couple of noises and flaps his wings. "Oh, and a piece of raw meat for my eagle. Just throw it up there. He gonna catch it."

Silver Crusade

Voren unconsciously rubs his side briefly, before catching himself and moving his hand back to the table.

Upon mention of drinks, he says, "Water is perfectly fine for me." When his stomach includes its own contribution to the discussion, he adds, "And perhaps some bread as well."

Silver Crusade

"while you were up in the worldwound I don't suppose you saw a kitsune that looked just like me? I mean I know you probably think all kitsune look alike but exactly like me, right down to this?" he takes off his shirt and turns around, revealing a fur pattern that looks like the holy symbol of saranrae going down his back. Some of the letters he's been sending home have us a little worried.

Silver Crusade

Bree-Bran nods respectfully to Voren, not pressing for anyone to partake beyond their own desires.

She cocks her head to the side as she looks to the kitsune and studies the marks on his back. "The Dawnflower is known to me, and I do know of some of your kind in the Society. However, the WorldWound is a very large place, and I am only one person. It takes time for the likes of me to travel to different parts of it. If you like, we could go there tomorrow, and scout for your kin? I could protect you from much of the demonkind, but it -is- dangerous."

Silver Crusade

The kitsune gulps a little "T..tommorow? I take it you have access to that tapestry in the basement then? erm. Nope. If you haven't seen him then you haven't seen him. He's.. ah , just as likely to wind up back here as any particular spot in the worldwound.

Silver Crusade

Jack simply nods. "There should be. Lemme check." He goes to the cool cellar to check. Down there for about a minute, he brings up a thick jug and places it onto the bar. "Found this. I think it is milk, if that is what you'd like other than water. Didn't see any thing like juices though." He shrugs. "Then again, juices don't last long."

He pulls the cork stopper off the jug and pours a little it out into a glass. He nods, it is indeed milk. He finishes filling up the glass and goes behind the bar for a decent sized chunk of meat for the hawk and some bread for the monk. He returns and tosses the meat up to the bird and brings the glass of milk to the centaur, and the bread to the Sarenite.

He returns back to the bar and picks up the gold and places it into a strongbox underneath the bar and looks back up at the crusader. "Right. Sorry about that. So what would you like? I can make a good plate of Varisian bean and greens if you'd like? Or maybe a bit of chicken or beef stew?" He looks down at the bar before looking back towards the woman. "Hm, how about a nice steak meal, since you said you came back from that demonic place. Nice and hearty and gets you ready for a new day." He grins and then goes to prepare the meal.

Silver Crusade

sorry for my last post being on the wrong avatar. >.<

"Steak would be wonder..." Bree-Bran sighs softly after the bartender, and gives a shrug with her wide shoulders rising and falling.

Her gaze returns to the kitsune and she gives a nod. "If ever you do need help there, please look me up. I like helping members of the Crusade, and as you might have guessed, it's part of my duties." Her hand indicates the many signs of the Inheritor over her comparison. "I'm probably one of the best at moving through and around the Wound that you'll find here in Absalom." Her statement may be immodest, but she makes it in a very matter-of-fact manner.

After about 30 minutes, Jack returns with a platter with a thick beef steak(rare), broccoli with a little bit of lemon juice, a baked potato with sour cream, and some corn off the cob with a small square of butter over it, and places it in front of the crusader. "Right, here you are. It isn't fancy, but it is neat and practiced. Just as Erastil would like." He holds up a hand with a index finger pointed upward. And then ducks under the bar for a second. He pops back up with a little saucer with a round pastry upon it and a tankard filled with ale and places it next to the platter. "Also, some sweet dessert for a good job well done. To savor what you have rightly earned." And he finishes by leaving a knife and fork next to the platter with a handkerchief underneath them.

Afterwards, Jack leans over the bar to get a look at the kitsune person. "Hey.... You're one of those, Kits-sun-ey, right? I think I met a couple of your kind before, I thought it was just the tails, but you really can look like a human fox creature like they said." He holds out a hand for a hand shake. "The names Jack Goodfellow. Follower of Erastil, and chef in his day job." As he said in a somewhat Varisian accent.

"Thanks", says Erik while taking a sip from the glass. Syr catches the chunk with his beak, places it under one of his feet and starts feasting.

It's still raining outside but not as hard as before anymore. You can say, it's raining "quite normal". Here and there, some lightnings are brightening the outside.
Suddenly a loud bang enacts as a lightning strikes into one of the trees outside on the court. Erik almost chokes on his milk and Syrs meat chunk nearly falls down.

Bree-Bran looks hungrily at the plate, and seats herself, shifting her greatswords to fit over the bench. She says a brief prayer and kisses one of her holy symbols of Iomedae before rubbing her hands together and gathering tableware.

Cutting and placing the first bite in her mouth, her facial features soften and she happily sighs with pleasure. She takes her time chewing, savoring the meaty flavor. Then, suddenly she sits straighter, and industriously cuts another and prepares to pop it in her mouth.

While Erik watches the people in the room and Syr keeps feasting on his meat chunk, another loud bang enacts. A lightning strikes into one of the trees on the court again. The tree even get set on fire but it gets quickly put out by the rain.

The shockwave however, is so strong this time, that the glass of some windows breaks into little pieces and because of the wind, the rain gets pushed into the building.

Voren glances up from his book and sets it down on the table. He then pulls out his bedroll and rope and walks over to the window to block it up.

Silver Crusade

While the monk covers one of the windows, Erik gets up, grabs his bundle and emptys it. He takes the bundle and his rope and walks to one of the destroyed Windows to cover it.

"That should do the trick for now", he says while looking at his work. He got a little wet while putting the leather on the window. Luckly there're not more broken windows in the room. "I'm more worried about the windows in the rooms upstairs", says Erik while looking to the stairs which lead upwards to the other floors with a concerned look.

Silver Crusade

Jack startles as he hears the glass shatter. "Ah shit. Er, pardon my language." He wipes his hands on the apron and moves around to help block off the broken windows.

Once that is all settled, he goes back around the bar to retrieve a metal dustpan and a simple broom. He sighs at the sight of the broken glass on the floor. "Well, at least no one got hurt by the glass when it shattered." He goes about sweeping it up the broken glass.

He looks towards the centaur as he worries about the upstairs room. "Upstairs should be bunk rooms and... A library I think. A few offices too of course." He looks back down at the floor, finishing up the sweeping of the shards of glass. "Well, if any of them were occupied, I am sure other members should have closed them." He brings the full dustpan and broom behind the bar and disposes the glass in a trash bin.

Jack looks around the room. "Well, I got to keep my eyes on the bar for now. If you want to go upstairs to make sure there are no other windows broken, or make sure they are shuttered, you are welcome to do that."

Silver Crusade

"Well, I don't think that's a good idea, even if I would try", says Erik while looking at the stairs. "First, the stairs are to narrow. If I would try, my lower body would get stuck. Or did you ever saw a horse going up such stairs? And second even if get up one the first floor, it would he NEARLY impossible to get down.
I still remember my first night in Absalom when I arrived. In a tavern, I ask the owner if he had any space in the stable left for the night. He shook his head and said he has a room big enough for me in the first floor. I didn't liked that idea but since I didn't know if any other tavern had a place left, I took the offer. Going up was easy, but going down wasn't. I tried forward but the danger was that I would fell down forward and get hurt. Then I tried backwards but the railing broke halfway down because of my bulk. At the end, the owner had to call a sage who had to cast a levitation spell to get me down. That was really embarrassing, especially because of the onlookers who gathered downstairs. I had to pay 150 GP to the owner because of the night and the railing. And 2.700 GP to the sage just to get me down.

Since then I try to avoid stairs like those", he says while he nods towards the stairs.

While everyone inside talk to each other to kill time, the storm outside gets lesser and lesser until, in the early afternoon, the rain completely stops. On the court itself are several puddles and twigs and branches, which broke off of the trees. The wind is still present but not that strong as it was in the storm. It carries away the last remaining clouds and as the sun appears, it is starting to dry everything.

"Well, that storm must be in a hurry", says Erik with a smirk. He unties his bundle and his rope. The bundle itself is soaked in water and much heavier. Water drips from it onto the floor. "Better hang it up for drying", he says to himself as he leaves the building. At a tree, he spans the rope between two thick branches and hangs the bundle over it, before returning into the building. "Sorry about that", Erik says to Jack for leaving a wet track behind himself. Then he asks him:"You got a spare bag or something for my stuff? Just for lend; I'll give it back!"

Voren hangs his bedroll on another available branch and relocates to the yard.

Valeria is still out in the practice field, seeming to not even notice the arrival or passing of the inclement weather. Her drills throw a shimmering display of nearly blinding light reflected from the newfound sun, as rivulets of water flow and splash over her shining mithril armor and cast glimpses of rainbows through the air around her. Kantaria preens underneath the eaves of a nearby building.

"Listen, just put my stuff inside a bag and keep it under counter. I'll pick it up later", says the the centaur to Jack. Syr landed on Eriks back before he leaves the building again.

The court looks like a mess. Dozens of twigs and branches of different sizes got broke off the trees and are lying all over the floor right now. The leafs got blown away mostly and the floor is pretty muddy. Almost every step Erik took ended with cracking wood under his hoofs while he walks over the court. The trees look battered but nothing that can't be fixed. Syr flew off to one of the trees that are less damaged and keeps his eye on his owner.

After a while of thinking Erik walks towards a hovel, altered to the main building, walks halfway in and comes back outside with a rake in his hand and starts clear away the wood.

The sundial shows 4 pm.

While Erik cleans up, an idea pops up in his head:"That's enough wood to build a small pyre. If we all help together we might be done with the cleaning and and the pyre before night falls."
