I'd be in for a longer term game like I said. Curse of Strahd sounds dandy to me.

Grand Lodge

Saltmarsh seems interesting.

Liberty's Edge

I am torn as both seem cool, but if I have to choose one it will be Saltmarsh!

I am about to begin o CoS game here in the forums, so I'd pick the other one, but in any case I'd have fun and I believe myself capable of avoiding the metagame.

Preferences for games includes

Secret of Saltwater Marsh
Filios
Mikkel Madsen
Aeshuura
Daniel Stewart
Jereru

Curse of Strahd
Kubular

If you haven't already posted in the thread indicating you want to play that's ok! Do it now! I won't pick groups until next Wednesday so you have like 10 days.

You can put me down for CoS.

Mikkel Madsen 742 wrote:

I think I'd prefer SSS since it's a shorter term module. This would be my first PbP game and I'd want to be able to fully commit to it.

Plus a quick google reveals that it sounds awesome! Strong elements of exploration, team problem-solving, and piecing together clues are exactly what I'm looking for in a game.

And a haunted house! I'm in, though I can also do Curse of Strahd if there are too many players for Saltmarsh already.

Also a disclaimer: I did post interest in another recruiting thread before this to play the U and A series modules as a PF game. As of yet the GM hasn't notified anyone of acceptance over there, but if I'm accepted here I'll withdraw from consideration over there. I'm genuinely interested in trying out 5e right now.

The description for Saltmarsh says it is set in Greyhawk. Will you still be setting it there?

Curse of Strahd is definitely of most interest to me!

If Saltmarsh is set in Greyhawk, count me in for that one, it's my favorite campaign world :-)

Sure, Greyhawk is fine. It shouldn't change anything one way or another. I don't remember much about Greyhawk except that the original 3.0 Gods were Greyhawk gods (Pelor, Weejas..etc) I never played any Greyhawk campaigns as a kid/teenager, it was all Forgotten Realms and Birthright.

How experienced of a PbP player are you?

Very? Multiple games, playing and running. Sadly a lot of them have dies but I have one I run and one I play in that are working up to 5 years here on the boards...

What is your preferred post rate for games?

I prefer once a day Mon-Fri. My experience is that weekends tend to flicker. If I can get more in, great.

What is your most active posting times?

Mon-Fri 9-5:30 PST but I carry a phone app so I can get stuff in other times.

Are their days/weeks where posting is impossible for whatever reason?

Not impossible. I have a very active 5yr old who makes weekends...dynamic. Posting can be harder for me then but I find that if others are posting, I can be too. I tend to go with the flow on the posting frequency in that way.

Let me know a little about you, why would you be a good fit in my game?

I tend to think I am pretty upbeat. I hopefully play interesting characters and generally am consistent in making games work. I would like to think I have a reputation for being a players GM and a GMs player, in that I play to my role but understand and respect what the other group is going through. I'm flexible, fair and a delight, lol.

What type of game are you interested in, Paizo AP (using 5E rules) or WotC AP or something else.

Anything. Everything. Its all about the group as far as what is or is not fun. I currently am running and playing in a variety of games so I would rather not have tons of overlap (Curse of Strahd comes to mind). There was talk of Winter's Reign, that would be fun. Some of the other less standard Paizo fare too. Saltmarsh or the Giants series would be good fun too. I have started both in various times of my life but never got to complete them...

Me either, so whatever setting you want to use is fine. I just would like to know, because it might affect the type of character I make... :p (I would like to make a character that is rooted in the world in which he is created.)

Lantern Lodge

Curse of Strahd for me. Would the monster Hunter Gothic option from the latest ua be open, if so looks like I will be playing my first fighter in 20 years.

How experienced of a PbP player are you?

Been on these boards for around 3 years, seen many games go by the wayside, but I persevere. A couple of the games I'm in are at 2+ years, but that's the
exception unfortunately. I always have the hope that every game I join will duplicate the success of those games.

What is your preferred post rate for games?

I always try to get a post in every day, even weekends

What is your most active posting times?

Evenings , EST. I do get some posts in during the day with my phone.

Are their days/weeks where posting is impossible for whatever reason?

Some weekends are so jam packed that it just doesn't happen, 3 girls under 6....

Let me know a little about you, why would you be a good fit in my game?

I'm up for anything, as my list of dead games at the bottom of my campaign tab can atest. I've always tried to be a good roleplayer, advancing the story
for everyone's benefit. I'm always in it for the long haul. Long history of rpg play, dating way back to Grade 5 in 1984. Had to stop due to real life and
found these boards 3 years ago to get my fix :)

What type of game are you interested in, Paizo AP (using 5E rules) or WotC AP or something else.

Adventure Paths are awesome, so any would be of interest, whether Paizo or other. Of particular interest would be the originals Shackled City and Age of Worms
as well as the original AD&D adventure arcs (U1-3, A1-4, D1-3 etc...).
As for your question for Saltmarsh vs Strahd.... if you ran Saltmarsh, would you be continuing the series ?

The Greyhawk Wiki is a great source for information and even maps of the setting. It would be easy to place there.

@Piratedevon Nice to meet you! I've lurked on a few of your games!
@Edelsmirge Sure thing!
@Aeshuura Let's say SSS is gonna be set in Greyhawk. I'll have to bone up on my Greyhawk lore but it shouldn't be a big problem.
@Daway UA stuff is AOK with me. I've not found any problems with it, the Psionic stuff isn't finished so it would probably be a bad idea to work with that but everything else is fine.
@Spazmodeus If the group posted consistently and we finished the module in a decent amount of time, yeah I'd probably be ok with running the other modules in the series.
@Filios Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.

The Flaness! Pelor! Scarlet Brotherhood!

That may be the bulk of my Greyhawk knowledge any more. I imagine we will all have to be"[oo c]" questions to each other. I just said we were from X...does that make sense to you guys? and so on.

When are final decisions anticipated for the selection of parties to proceed to character creation?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'll be picking groups next Wednesday.

Outstanding, thank you!

Grand Lodge

Ha ha, I did a grand search for Greyhawk archetypes/character concepts. Apparently, in an article where someone asked Gary Gygax what made Greyhawk different, his answer was selfishness. Everyone in Greyhawk is generally very mercenary or out for treasure.

I will just be mulling about concepts until the final selections are made... ^_^

" Suppose a character in your party gets killed. If you're a Dragonlance character, you say, `I shall honor the memory of my departed friend and swear vengeance on his killer.' In the Realms, maybe you try to get him resurrected. In Greyhawk you say, `Dibs on his boots!'" "

Hah! =)

I am thinking Conan and Subothai from Conan the Barbarian. :)

Quick bump to the post.

I'll be taking submissions and questions/statements until Wednesday April 27th. Then I'll pick groups and we will start building characters with a goal of beginning the campaigns on or around Wednesday May 4th, Star Wars day.

So Niles are you going to end up trimming the saltmarsh group down? and to how many? IF the numbers don;t change would you potentially let someone move to the Strahd list if you feel like running up to six there?

My vote is for strahd.

@Pirate Yes, I'll take 4-6 people for each group. However, I might offer some people from either list an option to play in the other game.

What will I base my decisions on?

1) Posting History
2) Posting times
3) Have I gamed with you or followed any games you played in before?
4) How invested do you seem in your other games?
5) Some vague notion that can only be described as "gut feeling"

I do plan on taking at least one "newbie" poster in a game. So they can get some practice in the PbP format and begin building an online reputation on these forums

So the general idea behind my guy is that he is a hard working miner just trying to keep his family fed and taken care of. He returns home on weekend to a think bank of mists that his family disappeared right in front of him and he was in a completely different place. He carries with him the last remaining items he has of his family. A dagger whose hilt is wrapped in a lock of his wife's hair, a teddy bear, and a couple other children's items I have yet to determine.

Hello all, sorry for the late hello in the recruitment thread.

How experienced of a PbP player are you?
I've been playing PBP since the September of 2014, I wouldn't say I'm near as experienced as many I see on the boards, but not a complete newbie. I was though when Niles took me in for his Iron Gods game, thank you. Still a great deal to learn with both systems.

What is your preferred post rate for games?
I will post usually 1 or more times per day, in all of my PBP games, yet there are times I'm waiting for others to post - personally I may feel I've been hogging the decision making, so waiting for others to chime in or waiting on the GM to update to know what is happening.

What is your most active posting times?
My most active times of the day to post are from about 2pm - 10pm EST, however I am checking the campaign page throughout the day for new post to see what is going on. And as someone posted earlier, if I can get a 5 minute post in during work I will.

Are there days/weeks where posting is impossible for whatever reason?
No normal day of the week is impossible to post, however while I'm at work most times I am only able to read what others are posting and then catch up in the afternoon/evening when I get home.

Let me know a little about you, why would you be a good fit in my game?
I am always up for a good story and a team player. I am learning with each of my characters, as so far have yet to play the same thing twice. Building the character and seeing where they end up keeps me with the game.

What type of game are you interested in, Paizo AP (using 5E rules) or WotC AP or something else.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing most of the APs/modules whether they be Pathfinder/5E, so as long as it is a good story I welcome the challenge and plan to enjoy the ride.

I'd like to be placed in Secret of Saltwater Marsh.
