Hide in Plain Sight + Darkness

Rules Questions

Let's say a Drow Rogue 5 / Shadowdancer 1 decides to cast Darkness on themself in an area of normal lighting. Can they use the Shadowdancer Hide in Plain Sight to constantly stealth away from anybody (or stand next to them) until somebody beats their check or the Darkness disappears? Would somebody notice the floating glob of darkness, but not the Rogue inside of it?

Definitely notice the globe of darkness. You can stealth while being observed, but you yourself are not being observed... If you're within 10 ft. of Dim Light, you don't need to hide behind anything... Is Darkness Dim Light? Best case scenario you are hidden somewhere in the darkness. They know you are there but not your exact location. Unless someone has an excellent Perception modifier... Or is able to calculate the center of the darkness spell on the fly. (no matter what, you are dead center of that spell)

Darkness makes regular light into dim light. If you had Deeper Darkness, such as from the Drow Noble feat chain or from those new Blood of Shadows Rogue Talents, it could make any sort of light into dim light or darker.
