A Few Summoner / Eidolon Questions

So I have been playing Fire Emblem for a while now and recently got into the idea of having a Wyvern Rider that raised his Wyvern from a hatching. His Eidolon 'Summoning' would involve some form of ritual calling him from where he was.

Reading some restrictions, would this go against the Reskin Rules? If so, is there any way to get the Fire Emblem Wyvern Rider feel outside of the Summoner Class?

Okay, now that that first question is out of the way, I have two questions primarily focused around Mounted/Flying combat. These questions mainly have to do with Animal Archive. The big question here: Are they worth it?

  • Sure-Footed Seems iffy for a flying mount.
  • Stable Gallop Seems fun for a Flying Drive-By attack
  • Valiant Steed Is this even good for something?

The main question being: Are they considered Animals/Magical Animals?

The second question being: Is Sure-Footing worth it pre-level 5 (Post level 5 - Flying). I would very much like Stable Gallop to be viable for the Eidolon simply because I plan to be doing a lot of Ride-by-Attacks (Fly By to be more precise). Again, what does Valiant Steed even do?

Would a Mounted-Summoner even work, or are there to many feats required for it? I plan to be taking Undersized Mount (from ACG) to allow me to ride Medium sized creatures (Aka: my Eidolon). Then there would be Mounted Combat and all the other Mounted feats required (Level 2 Dragoon as opposed to level 9 Dragoon?).

Should I go Half-Elf Summoner and gain +1/2 Evolution Points per level (at the cost of not using "magical" abilities) or should I go Human Summoner for the bonus Mounted Feat or even Half-Orc (Any reason why I would go for Half-Orc?)? Are there any rules that affect Half-Elves and Half-Orcs differently than others?

I'm going to be posting a thread in Advice regarding the Eidolon mount, but I wanted to get all of the rules and legalities sorted out before proceeding.

No, they are not animals or magical beasts. They are outsiders. It is a different creature type.

I don't have much experience with summoners who attack with their mounts. The summoner in our game who rode her mount and cast spells from its back worked OK. She only took two mounted feats, Mounted Combat and Indomitable Mount.

I would go half-elf, those evolution points are pretty important. It's 1/4 point per level, though, and I'm not sure where the restriction against magical abilities is coming from.

Do you mean the PFS restrictions? I am fairly sure it would be against those rules. You could have an outsider that looks like a wyvern, but you couldn't have a wyvern.

If I go Half-Elf Summoner, I'm going to go all the way and take the Wild Caller Summoner. Wild Caller is a Half-Elf exclusive class and essentially gives your Eidolon 1/4th + 1/4th Evolution Point every level. However, this comes at the drawback of not selecting any of these:

Basic Magic
Magic Attacks
Skilled* (Anything Magic Related)
Unnatural Aura
Channel Resistance
Energy Attacks
Head
Immunity
Minor Magic
Undead Appearance
Weapon training
Damage Reduction
Frightful Presence
Major Magic
Breath Weapon
Dimension Door
Incorporeal Form
Lifesense
No Breath
Spell Resistance

It's a drawback, no doubt, but considering the fact you gain an extra Evolution Point every other turn, its really good. By rules, what does a Human Eidolon or Half-Orc Eidolon get? Do they get anything rule-wise?

Aw-drat.... Can it be a sub-planer Wyvern from the Fire Emblem Universe? By RAW, that description still is Outplaner. :P

The Wild Caller is a great archetype. Most of the evolutions you're barred from are terrible anyways.

In PFS play, you can have an Eidolon that looks like a wyvern, that you call a wyvern, that acts like a wyvern, that you raised from an egg...but it does disappear when you lose consciousness, that bit can't be changed, and neither can the glowing forehead rune or the fact that it is affected by Outsider-affecting spells.

Also, in PFS play, you are stuck with the stupid b#*&!%%% eidolon subtypes of the unchained summoner.

Hm... I'll find a way to make the Wyvern outsider work. I'm not to keen on the "Raised from the egg" but I'll fund something.

Ah crud, I completely forgot that it requires Unchained Summoner...

Oh well, I think I have all the information I require from Rules for the Summoner evolution. Thanks for the assist.

Might be worthwhile to go to the PFS forum to get confirmation that your flavour idea isn't considered a "reskin." People in the Rules forum (eg myself) aren't always clear on PFS-specific restrictions.
