Help on Skulls & Shackles - Cleric or Inquisitor?

Interesting idea but I could never play a Lawful pirate while maintaining a straight face. It is kind of a contradiction in terms.

The evangelist bit looks interesting though. I'd just lose the monk part and stick with the evangelist. Flag waving is ace - particularly if the performance is oratory or singing! Very dramatic.

I'm running a skull and shackles game. Lawful is the person we made Quartermaster, and the other Boatswain.

The only reason I like cleric for this game is the Flotsam Domain will be magnificent here.

Our group consisted (well consisted of until last game when I murdered two of them)

Undine tattoo sorc of besmara as 1st mate
Human conjure quarter master
Dwarven Skald as captain
Dwarven freebooter /trapper as pilot
Grippli alchemist as sail master and surgeon
Dwarven fighter as Boatswain.

The last 2 were crushed to death last session. They will be replaced by a battle oracle and Cleric of Gozreh. Hopefully both with Furious metamagic or the skald will be quite put out.

A lot of the path includes more traditional adventuring environments where you often don't have several rounds to precast all your buff spells.

All the short-term buffing involved fits into that typical 'one round', since Divine Favor and starting Performance are standard/move. Mirror Image is minute/level and optional. It's not much different than a typical battle Cleric or battle Oracle - with a GM that demands that every encounter is essentially a surprise and that six seconds of "seeing them coming and getting ready" is forbidden, then it's kind of annoying. But otherwise it's pretty much a non-issue.

Sheathing provoking is only a problem in a situation where you would decide to put away your full-attack weapon and cast a spell while toe-to-toe with an enemy that you can't step back from, which is more than a little unlikely unless you're trying to be Nurse Healbot while leading pirates in battle.

I completely forgot to mention that the character concept is based on ditching lawfulness right out of the gate. Converting to worshipping Besmara and becoming a pirate should take care of that business just fine by level 2.

Anyhow, you can do a similar thing with a level of Urban Barbarian and some Extra Rage, or whatever else. The Monk level is just fun for the melee power, the skills and the ability to 'fake' good armor without being in any way encumbered.

A lot of awesome advice, thanks. Ill double check with my DM what his rules are for Conversion Inquisition. If he allows it completely Ill use Cha as a dump. If not then I guess I'll take a bit less wis and boost it at level 4 to have a reasonable Cha as well.

Thanks a bunch for the help!
