OMG I am sorry for the losses, My prayers to all involved and their families,
Pat, what the heck man? Get better dude! You sound like I usually am, but I don't hit that point til the end of June, when all the school and dance shows have been kicking my can for 3-4 months with no time off. o_O
Um,... Happy May 1st? I hope everyone gets better from here forward!

*sigh*
I'm better, I'm just overwhelmed with back chores right now. I need to clean my apartment, fold my laundry, play with my pooch.
Plus, it is crazy at work, like seriously. They just confirmed a whole new set of commissioners, and now I've been put forward as a possible assistant to one of the incoming five. Yikes.
Great stuff, working at the highest levels of an important agency, but FFS! I need to breathe! LOL

Right now my day went from "Doing good" to "Absolute crapfest" in under 3 minutes. How so? Well as you might know, I, Thomas Blaine Seitz, am a member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS). Part of my job is driving to peoples home to care for their pets. My church secretary has relied on me to care for her rather old beagle and her pug while she does her daily thing of keeping the church stuff running while her husband manages a local franchise of UPS (which he's now getting out of to just run ONE store). So in the process of driving there, I used for at least the past *counts* almost three months now this narrow side street that has lots of parked cars on it. Admittedly, it's not for everyone, but it saves me from dealing with some of the traffic headaches I encounter in a college town like Morgantown. Today...today just wasn't a good day to drive it. Before I had gotten half way there, I had to swerve/park to allow another car passage (which should tell you how narrow the street is to begin with!). So I drive along, just minding my own business...when I hear a scream and suddenly felt something happen to my car. Turns out ONE of the cars parked there, the passengers (all teenagers mind you) decided to get out of the car BEFORE I had actually passed them. This meant the Driver side door and the passenger side door behind the driver were open PRETTY wide. Now admittedly I wasn't completely over...but you know how it goes when you drive. So naturally, I side swiped them and they me...and now my 2002 Subaru Forester has LOVELY scratch marks on it, the passenger side door is a little hard to open and the SIDE mirror is completely off...just dangling there. So....yeah.
Fortunately I managed to exchange info with the driver and got to use my flip cell phone (it's a cheap phone guys. I don't need Iphones!) to take a picture. Turns out the driver is actually a kid from my old neighborhood. I didn't realize that (nor do I think he knew either...) But my mom helped me out...and we'll see what the insurance says. I don't have collusion coverage on this car (I mean it's 2002 folks and over 190,000 miles!) but I do have bare minimum (IE Liability) but we'll see what THAT does...

Don't drivers these days know that they're supposed to check their mirrors to make sure that there's no oncoming traffic before they open their doors?

Yoinks!
That, is pretty cool, actually. Go Monkey! :)Still sometimes I think sleep would be better! ;P
Just the usual here, Busy at work (running a college auditorium and all the shows that entails) stressing about daughter graduating High School, (Math is not her thing) all while IN a show with said daughter, (Tuck Everlasting) which opens this weekend.
Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. At least YOUR stress sounds like it could land you a promotion! ;)
Hang tight everyone! It's Wednesday! :D

"Collusion insurance"? heh.
Always have collision insurance, perhaps increasing the deductible, unless the deductible you're willing to take is more than the book value of the car. At that point your decision is whether to live with the damage or replace the car. Or start taking the bus, I guess.

Ugh. I HATE car problems. I got new tires on mine for Christmas, then in January the battery died during a cold snap. It was March before I got a new one. I have less than 300 miles on the new tires and the vehicle is dead again. I'm no mechanic at all, so I don't know what's wrong with it. It may be dead for good and there's no way in the Nine Hells I'll be able to pay for repairs or to buy even some old beater car. So I'm back to bumming rides from friends, which is pretty humbling.

My driver's side mirror is taped on. I ran loops under the mirror and over the top of the door frame.
I need to get a drill so I can fix it, but I've had the tape on for weeks now and have not been pulled over.
Looks pretty damned hillbilly, but it works! I didn't even use duct tape, just clear postal tape I had sitting around. Zero expense.

Bumming rides isn't a option when I'm 40 and most of my friends have left the state. :p But I'm semi-hopeful once my brother's wedding is done with, Mom will have some spare cash around to help pay SOME of the cost to get this repaired. Though...I remain skeptical.
I'm 54 and my son and ex-wife (with whom I'm on great terms) and my friend Jeremy take me places when necessary. I have a friend who comes up for lunch every weekend and if I need something then we go and pick it up. So I have a pretty good support network. I just hate to use it.

There is a small (and shrinking chain of bookstores) called Books a Million. One of them in an neighboring city used to allowed RPGs and CCG's to be played in the coffee area. My introversion and general anxiety would never let me do that. I had a hard time at the one GenCon got to go to, but I was with a small group of close friends, which helped no end.

We still have a BAM here too (LAfayette, LA)
We also have a B&N, I like both. :)
I do recall that when I was trying to finish my masters while living/working in Jackson MS, about 20-30 minutes away was a HUGE BAM, (First time I'd ever heard of them, and this store was the size of a Wal Mart) they had a used/damaged book shelf that was the size of most small mall stores.
I picked up a LOT of D&D books there on the cheap. :)
Never seen anyone trying to play games at either store though, both of mine have a coffee area, but only the B&N has a 'reading area' too that can be used for such things. They sometimes have musical performances by teachers/students at the University in that spot.
