The BAM we have here in Conway was moved from the North Little Rock location after the other one in Little Rock shutdown. I think there's only one, maybe two B&N's left, too. I've not been to the BAM here in town yet, though it's been a year. With all the meds I take for various things some of the side affects are loss of attention span and memory retention. So reading books is not easy for me anymore. So I just don't go in there. It would depress me to see so many books that would be a waste of my time to try and read.

Conway's been growing for a while now, hasn't it?

Plenty of B & N stores here, though. We've got several Half-price Books. I miss Borders.

I moved here in 1994. It's grown tremendously since then. It sort of outgrew the infrastructure because it couldn't keep up with the increasing population. The latest change has been to put in traffic circles all over town to replace stop lights. They do speed up traffic flow but lordy, no one knows how to navigate them.

They take a while to get used to, especially in areas that haven't normally featured them. They're as thick as fleas in the Northeast of the U.S. (and other areas). Hereabouts in the DMV area they are ... spotty. More in the District and the People's Republic of Maryland than in Northern Virginia.

The hardest part for me when I'm in the Jacksonville/Little Rock area to adjust to are the roads that run parallel to the interstate. Specifically, the left turn exits to get onto the interstate. Since we do not go there typically more often than once every 2 or 3 years, it is an unpleasant adjustment each time.

With my anxiety issues those things drive me batty. They used to not be a concern, but now....oy.

So what brings you down this way, family? Business? Nosy people like me?

In-laws live in Jacksonville.

There's a great game shop in Jacksonville called "The Game Shop". Seriously. It's an old Hastings store they moved into about 3 or 4 years ago. They recently had part of the ceiling collapse from a storm so some of the table area is unavailable, but aside from that it's a really good place. They're working on repairs. The owner, Brian Blevins, is a great guy, too. The whole staff has always been helpful and friendly.

I'm lucky enough to live close to two really good game stores, Pegasus Games and I'm Board Games.

We have two good ones here in Conway, too. Mizewell Games and The Bat Cave Cards and Comics. Both places sell TTRPGs and board games and have places to play both. We had a board game store but it didn't last too long, sadly.

There's also Misty Mountain Games on the east side and Nether World Games downtown (though they don't have s*&@ for pathfinder or Starfinder).

My dad-in-law used to go to that Hastings all the time. Glad to hear that it has an interesting tenant now.

We just had a FLGS open up near work, called Epikos. Popped in for the first time yesterday and had a look around. Not a bad little place.

So who's gaming this weekend and what are you playing? This is my group's weekend off (we try to play every other week so family and personal time aren't taken up constantly). Chime in, everyone! Let's hear about your games!

We are returning to Savage Tide... sort of. I'm slipping in a leveled-up version of Souls for Smuggler's Shiv from Serpent's Skull to expand the later part of ST's third chapter.

So...my weekend; As a duly hard working pet sitter, I often find myself in unusual situation. Not the least of which is when I'm asked to sit at a house while the owner is away for longer than a day. This time I was sitting for a friend of a friend who lives VERY far out. Admittedly this wasn't terrible...but the ROAD was. Especially after I had had trouble with my car due to the collusion. Nothing major about driving but I did note when I drove faster at times, the car shook. So naturally I assumed it was an alignment problem. Turns out I was WRONG. My left front tire (which is one of 4 new tires I got back in/around Thanksgiving of last year) decided to join its ancestors. Admittedly I didn't NOTICE this until I had to drive it back and forth on Friday to make sure one of my other clients pets were taken care of. So when I woke up on Saturday from a rough night (beds that aren't mine don't seem to agree with me.) I let the dogs out. Now at this point, I should mention this is a VERY wooded area and mostly home to some farmers along with people that like being in the back end of nowhere. I should also point out that my client told me her dogs DID often run off but would come back. But admittedly, while I had let them out with out a lead, they were very studious about staying within the yard...until Saturday morning when they started barking...and I let them out. Up the hill the ran...and Out of sight. Panic of course set in...but after trying to find them for about 10 minutes, I decided to try my car. Noticing for the first time the tire was not just low, but almost flat. (Correction probably close to it) Anyways I spent the better part of 25-30 minutes TRYING to get my car's tire off. The jack usage went fine, it was the fact what ever they did to tighten the lug nuts on the wheel...didn't make it any easier. Basically I tried using a mallet then a sledgehammer on the wrench to little or not effect. FINALLY the dogs come running back towards the front of the house. I then proceeded to drive BACK home on a dirt road and then a rather potholed filled state road that is the ONLY way in or out of this area. I got home, Mom and I discussed the situation, and she told me "Go back to Goodyear. You have tire insurance with them." (I had called earlier and she wanted me to wait for Triple A to come find me...which given where I was...not a whole lot of confidence along with a serious lack of funds.) Fortunately she was right, I got a new tire and now I can drive up and down....which I'll be doing LOTS of as TWO of my neighbors now have me pet sitting for them. (One of which I'm convinced is a little crazy since they're having me sit for not their dog, but their adult child's dog.) Anyways... I'm looking at Mother's day and praying for sleep. :p

Oh and gaming.

Hey, Tom. Forgot how to do paragraphs? :D

Yes. Yes I did. Sorry guys. I just needed to decompress.

What are those paragraphs you are speaking of?

It's something I'd probably use more often IF I typed them out on Word.

When the dogs ran off over the hill, they took all Tom's ¶s with them and promptly buried them under some shrubbery.

NI!

This is probably an accurate statement, author person.

As for the Knights that say Ni, I never saw one but I wouldn't have been surprised to find one out there.

Wow, one of those weeks all around huh? :)

I didnt get stranded (thank goodness!) BUT my AC did decide to die, (NOT the one in the car!) :(
Yes, my Home AC dies, the day before we are supposed to hit 90+ degrees for the first time this year. :(

All while trying to make sure the not-so-baby girl graduates high school, AND plan her graduation stuff! :P

Um,... I just checked my cupboard, and I'm outta sanity. ANyone have any I can borrow? ;P

Oh NVM, I still have plenty of alcohol. I'm good. :D

Who is your car colluding with?

Is it MLB! Those damn dirty crossers!

My car just had collisions and tire problems. AC is still fine in both the house AND the car. No idea if we'll hit 90 or not.

But one of those weeks is still going in terms of I still have 4 sets of clients who dogs I have to see between 11 and 2...and then 5 and 6. And 6 am and 7 am... Gah...

I completely agree. (Having had it.) :P

But why are you saying this?!? You alright?

Mom. Fifth bout starts today. It is now in the brain.

Surgery and chemo are out, so they will be doing radiation. For right now they will be doing the Cyber Knife radiation therapy. Two 12 mm spots. One at the brain stem and the second in the frontal lobe. I am very glad for the seizures that put her in the hospital or they might have been too late.

Geez. That's damn tough, Sharoth. I hope they can get both spots easily with zero complications.

Thanks AS.

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope the treatments are successful!

=(

Brain? Uhhh.

Fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu cancer.

I'm sorry for that Sharoth.

Good news for me, three days down, only Thursday and Friday to go for dual neighbor dog walking!

FU cancer, indeed.

Sorry Sharoth,
Only thing harder than dealing with it yourself is watching a loved one go through it.
(My Mom. Twice. But in Breast, not brain!)

They are making incredible leaps in technology and treatment every year.
EDIT- Sorry, trying to say that as terrible as seizures are, it sounds as if they gave you enough warning that she has a chance.

My prayers are with you and your family during this time.

Indeed.

Well tonight is the LAST time I have to wake myself up before 6 am the following day due to the fact at least ONE of my clients will be back on Friday.

~sighs~ This is going to be a long six months or so. Mom had three seizures because of the tumors. Georgia law says (and I agree) that she can't drive for six months after her last seizure. Three guesses who will be doing most of the driving for mom?

On the plus side, her first radiation treatment is today at 8:30 am.

We've talked about this innumerable times before my silver-scaled friend.

For Sharoth's eyes only, pretty please with disembowelments on top:

In these circumstances with your working graveyard shift, you must ensure you get a good day's sleep at as consistent a time of day as possible.

You will NOT be any good to your family and yourself if you wreck your car driving stupid-tired and die or get hospitalized. Or you lose your sh!t at work and cuss out your new boss because you're too tired to think straight.

Your spouse has to get off their butt and help out for real. You can't do everything and take care of everyone and your menagerie of pets constantly exhausted like you often are.

You may not like reading this. I'm sorry if you don't.

Perhaps reading it instead of hearing it over the phone will get you to take the necessary steps?

DM Cal,

I did but I have to point out I still had to take the other dogs out after 10 pm...

But now at least that's down to just ONE other dog. At least...I think...

So who's doing what this weekend? My group will be down by about half. Two of my players are going to a funeral, the 12 year old daughter of another is going to the symphony with her mom, and another has a mother - daughter get together at church. I was going to cancel and get back together in two weeks but one of the guys who makes the two and a half hour trips here from Memphis is bringing his (adult) son. He's talked up our game so much that he thought he'd come check it out. He'll be playing the first Occult Adventures character to ever appear in one of my games, a spiritualist. This should be really interesting.

This game was supposed to be Mythic, but with so many gone I'm in a quandary. The father of the young girl gave up his ticket to the symphony to come specifically to the game for that. I hate to give only half of the group a Mythic Tier, but since that was designed to be the central aspect of the game, I guess I'll need to go ahead with it.

I'm still not gaming even though my dog sitting responsibilities are lesser than before (IE less clients and I usually have weekends off)

That being said, since I promised Mom I'd take her out for brunch on Mother's Day, that's what I'm going to do.

Today is just being as LAZY as possible. :)

Lazy is a good thing some days!
