Having been in several car accidents before, I feel your pain.
Is there decent mass transit where you live?
Can you use it to get back and forth to the places you need to get to?
Is carpooling with your co-workers an option?
The bus system is ok.
I am on the night shift and sometimes have to use my car to get around.
No one else works my shift.
The wife also needs a car due to her doing traveling.

Just to let everyone here know, I'm going to take a semi-vacation away from the boards for a while. I'm feeling mentally tired and worn out. I've got some programming projects that have been on hold, some for several years, that need to be worked on. But, I'll drop by on Mondays, during my eleven hour shift at work, to say hi.

Got an unexpected meeting with my boss and HR at one of my jobs tomorrow morning. I'm not very happy about this. Unplanned meetings with no warning and no explanation are never good.
Yeah ... those tend not to be the good sort of meeting for the most part. I hope it's something better than you think.

~grumbles~ The car has been declared totaled by the insurance company. Now to work on getting a replacement title and the cash, then finding another car.
P.S. - Make sure you know where all your important paperwork is and don't be like me.
It seems pretty standard these days to "total" the car once the damage passes a specific threshold. Most cars are designed to crumple in certain ways, in order to deflect as much of the kinetic energy away from the passengers as possible. So, beyond the threshold (which probably varies with each vehicle), it's just easier to scrap it.

Chin up Monkey man!
While I agree that sort of call never sounds good, (Every time my current boss deigns to contact me, I feel like I'm being pulled into the principal's office and in trouble) ;PBut, The last time I actually got that boss/HR call, (20 years ago, when I lived in New Orleans) my boss had finally realized that I had been a temp for over a year, working 40+ hours a week. She finally asked 'WHY are we paying the temp agency all that money instead of putting him on payroll?'
So, Happy Thoughts and prayers and vibes going your way! :)

So I was looking at the job description for a local IT Manager position that looked right up my alley. A little lowball on salary, but not bad for managing a small group. Then I ran up against this: "Must be able to stand and walk 10-12 hours each day."
??????
To do what? Whip the IT galley slaves and keep them rowing?

I feel your pain, my old car went out a while back as the transmission was baking it's own oil all over itself, causing irreparable damage. at that point it was either replace the transmission, ($1000+) or just get a new car, (also $1000+ :P) At some point, it's just easier to get a new car, but at least your getting reimbursed for the damages.

It is in there for a reason. Maybe that last manager was not fit enough to get around. Maybe they make the manager a "gofer" job. It may be a crazy reason, but there is a story behind it.

Yes, My first ever stage combat class that I taught to non-adults, (high school aged kids) We did our final performance as "The Three Stooges Vs The Marx Brothers". A combination of Hand to hand, double-sticks, quarterstaves, and single sword fights, all done to Yakkity Sax. :)

The History of Rome - Podcast by Mike Duncan
The early episodes are a little rough, but I highly recommend everyone giving this a listen. It's about 150 hours long, which I powered through in about three weeks while I was out doing electrical work.
