Well, on a happier note, doing some rough calculations I should have enough money to get me free of my pressing debts and possibly pay for some much-needed refitting supplies for my house. Next week, natch >.<

Clothes are on the agenda. These inside-out ones are getting rather shabby

Things are looking good for my trip to NYC with my ladybro. I know you mentioned you might not be able to participate CH, is that still true? FHDM I hope you are still on board.

My faux-Canadian soul dreams of a poutine-themed restaurant. My ladybro is quite psyched as well.

4 am and so far, so good.

I had forgotten how easy typing things on a keyboard is. Although I appreciate the iphone, I do enjoy the speed with which I can get my stuff down.

~sighs~ Repeat after me. "I need the money so I will take the overtime. I need the money so I will take the overtime. I need the money so I will take the overtime." ~sighs~ Oh well. So much for McHeartAttack for breakfast.

On the phone with Mom:

Mom: How's the jaw healing?
Me: Really well. There's still a little numbness and swelling, but it's not a huge problem. I slur some words occasionally unless I'm careful.
Mom: I noticed. I figured you were drunk.

Sorry to FB friends about the repeat.

Cos'damn it! All my pie-eating life has been revealed as a lie. I just discovered I have never eaten an actual pumpkin pie, because that canned pumpkin used for pumpkin pies is actually squash!

But the snozzberries do actually taste like snozzberries, right?

I tried to make real pumpkin pie by baking my own pumpkin and pureeing it in the blender.

The blender lid popped off because I wasn't holding it.

Hot cooked pumpkin shot 12 feet into the air. I know it was 12 feet because that's how high the white popcorn ceiling was.

And what goes up must come down.

>_<

Well that explains a lot.

Mako drives perfectly well... As long as you go directly straight.

Growing up my mother always sometimes made pumpkin pies that started with a whole pumpkin.

*Edited for truth. The real pumpkins were once or twice a year. There would also be one or two per year with the canned stuff as a shortcut. She occasionally takes shortcuts on the fillings, but never the crusts. Her short crusts are the stuff of legend.

"Pumpkin" has no scientific meaning-- it merely refers to similar-looking large cultivars of two or three different species of winter squash. Technically, pumpkin pie (using canned pumpkin) is made from both squash and pumpkin, and neither are mutually exclusive.

Also, upon further research, cucurbita pepo, the most common species of winter squash bred for pumpkins, is also the same species that is bred for acorn squash, summer squash, spaghetti squash, and zucchini.

So all this time I could have been making pumpkin pie with zucchini?

The other day, at dinner, I told my kids the raspberries on their plates were actually snozzberries. They did not believe me.

Well, Max's plan to make a delicious zucchini pie was halted, when the market he normally busy from was shut down due to infestation of parakeets. Meanwhile, Gary's annual viewing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was interrupted by a city wide power outage caused by a rogue cow. And, across town, Scott noted with some concern the growing number of wild ducks......No, wait! That's my soap opera!

I mean, I know zucchini multiply faster than well-fed tribbles, but still... Evil.

Hmmm, a new start-up where you can Uber/Fiverr other people to wear your new shoes just long enough to break them in.

Edit: Evil?

Edit: I wonder if Steve Martin would license an instrumental version of one of his songs for the commercial.

What we used to do with football boots is put them on, stick our feet in a bucket of water, and walk around with the wet shoes for the rest of the day.

I've also heard people say they slept with them on for the first few nights after getting them.

I grew up in the country, and my folks keep a huge squash garden (probably 10-20 separate plants spread over half an acre). One time when I was a kid, instead of dividing up the garden into separate plots, my dad decided to plant five or six zucchini plants in the same area. We had zucchini everything for about a year after that.

Mustn't. link. to. Robot Chicken...

Zucchini-cheese pie is delicious. So is zucchini bread.

If I lived somewhere that both blackberries and zucchini were weeds, I'd be in heaven.

I first learned about the interesting properties of squash miscegenation when I planted several varieties too close to one another. You end up with some freaky-looking squash.

So... anywhere in northwestern New England or upstate New York? Zucchini doesn't grow wild there, but if you plant one, it'll be a weed before you know it.

Yeah, true that. And blackberries. Make sure you plant the thornless variety. Unless you want a weed that bites...

I have seen similar things happen with different strains of heirloom tomatoes presumably cross-pollinating. At least until the voracious tomato bug hoards arrive.

Wow.
I must say, THAT was the most interesting, and possibly the most number of posts, about vegetables in general, and squash in particular, that i have ever perused.

Only here in the treehouse folks! ;)

I have seen some freaky squashes before, NOW I know why!

Ah, THAT'S what those bugs are!

Around here that's one of the bugs kids call stink bugs.

Darn you Treehouse! I'm learning stuff! Stop it! My brain is full! ;P

Ugh. My brain is full. And tired. Learning how to use a law library that is obsolete in this age of WestLaw and LexisNexus makes me grumpy.

It is not obsolete, just not always needed. Not everything is on the internet or in digital form. And since laws go back a long time, sometimes you have to look them up. Remember that the internet and digital media is still young.

~sighs~ It will be a busy weekend. I am on call and I hope that I am busy because I could use the extra money. But besides that, I have to replace the water shut off valve for my toilet, play some Diablo III, vacuum the living room, annoy my cats, mow the lawn, pet my dogs, do laundry, watch Luke Cage, get my car battery charged up so I can move my car from my Mom's house to mine, annoy the wife, and anything else that needs to be done.

When my teacher as we learn it confesses he hasn't used the books in a decade, it kind of makes me wonder about the usefulness of the skill.

Back on the overnight. I cannot wait until payday next week.
