Is there a character generator that is better than pcgen for free? I cannot seem to make any of the characters I have tried to make through that program.

The best character creator is Herolab, but it is far from free.

I know their are others out their but I think they are mostly core only. It take a lot of time and money to program all that information, essplically as rules system grow. But even the pay ones get stuff wrong or leave stuff out. your best best it to find an auto fill character sheet and use the PSRD or similar website to build your character. so you don't have to flip through books

That's what I keep hearing, but I am not sure that I want to start paying for all of the books a second time.

Anybody have any good autofill spreadsheets I can take a look at?

I really like this one. There's some weirdness here and there (it seems to mess up HP for me sometimes), and not all skills are properly labeled as trained-only, but I love it. It also calculates basic to-hit for melee and ranged, and you'll only have to note special modifiers next to it (things such as activating Bane, magic +1s, and so on). I do place text boxes over the Feats and Features section, it's more convenient than the static limit of the normal text boxes.

YAPCG [Yet Another Player Character Generator] is a great resource to have. Free to use, and is constantly being worked on and updated by the community. Contains information from essentially all of the core source material, plus the Pathfinder Society Guides, Bestiaries, Adventure Path Players Guides, Player Companions, Pathfinder Chronicles, the Pathfinder Campaign Settings, and so forth. Updates are put online fairly often, with a log of all the changes that were made. I use it for all of my character generation. Pretty much plug and play, so any information you input will automatically carry over to the other sections of the character generator and make the whole process pretty easy.

I am working on one my self but it is not ready for a public release still has a lot of bugs when calculating to hit when I try to add it power attack it freaks out. I often have to untype and retype a number to get it to fix it self. I got unchained one also that uses both consolidated skills and background skills for my home game, but for some reason on that the max dex will freak out on it. dispite the coding for that section being the exact same as the other sheet, but this one does not have any issues with the hit and power attack. I can email either one. Both are based off of Nercos and Abellius sheets with some teaks that allow for changing which bonus go were, like lunar oracle replacing dex for reflex saves and dex. If you don't want my strange little bugs in the sheet, I would check out their sheets. I know one of them I can't remember which one, auto calculates bonus spell from high ability scores. I was try to make an adjustment to that to replicate a fake increase such a teifling Fiendish Sorcery ability. and setup I can't even tell in their coding, where the data is coming from and when I contact them about it they could not even remember how they did it either. That is the only part of their original sheet left it mine it. I would recommend their sheets a lot less bugs then mine but auto calculates stuff less then mine.

What are you trying to make? We try and support the widest possible user base.

First I tried to make a rogue that went into Horizon Walker with the astral environmental to take advantage of the dimension door ability, but a bug prevented me from picking some of class features. And their bug reporting process made my head hurt.

Then, I tried to input my current character, which is a cavalier turned Golden Legionaire, which they do not have the sourcebooks for.

So, I tried twice and neither one worked, so I feel like I need to find something that is going to better fit my needs.

Does the d20 website have a generator? They seem to have just about everything loaded in there.

Does pcgen have an editor that allows for users to create their own data files for personal use, such as custom Feats, classes, races, or archetypes?

Tabletop Giant will be opening to the public within 2-3 weeks. Currently, you can only create level 1 characters with it, but it is a good start; plus, it will provide means to create player groups, plan events (with an event calendar), chat in forums, do online pre-game mustering, and more.

Registered users may also generate PDF files of created character sheets.

Tabletop Giant is also free. Every registered user will be able to create and maintain a character on the site, all the way to level 20 (once that functionality exists). All PFS legal sources are to be included.

Also, everyone gets user profiles, like this one.

I could write a book about this site, but I'll just leave it at that for the moment.

It's not built in, but you can use any text editor to make them. All the files are plain text with some customized markup.

YAPCG...saw that a long time ago but it wasn't as far a long as the coregen sheet by bluecanary which is also a good sheet.

However, now YAPCG is awesome. Thanks!

The PDF sheet is also great for stuff the sheet does not cover.

I put pathbuilder 2e into the mix. It supports a lot of sources, it outputs to pdf (maybe, can't figure it out yet) saves to Google drive (if registered ($5.99)) and some other stuff. Offers a android app as well.
