Swashbuckler Hybrid Class

Rules Questions

"Bringing together the martial mastery of the fighter and the style of the gunslinger"

Uhm, Reading through the rules. I've missed something. Cause other than the various grit and panache pools adding up. I don't see ANY reference to Gunslinger abilities in the Swashbuckler write up.

All the abilities, more or less, sway to a rapier, light one handed melee weapons, and not one mention of guns.

Have I missed something?

When they say "style of the gunslinger" I don't think they mean "style" like fighting style. When they say "style" I think they are talking more about pazzaz like "jazz hands".

The style part refers to the underlying mechanics such as Grit/Panache, Deeds, Nimble, and so forth -- all applied to weapons like rapiers instead of to guns.

What he said. Much better answer.

That's not really making it much of a "Hyrbid" Class is it? All the other hybrids borrow from the two classes they are made up of.

Swashbuckler seems to be more or less purely a light, one-handed weapon class.

Why isn't Swashbuckler a base class instead?

Because the difference between the 2 is pretty much which book it was published in and is as important as something pretty much totally unimportant

Even though they use different names, mechanically the swashbucklers suffers from- I mean- takes it's features from the Gunslinger. Deeds, Grit, Nimble, Gun Training, Bonus feats... Pretty much make it one for one with the Fighter granting a sword and I suppose Charmed Life is kinda like Bravery.

Swashbuckler is a Hybrid of Gunslinger and Fighter Mechanics. It gains Panache, Deeds, and Nimble from the gunslinger and bonus feats and weapon training/mastery from the fighter.

While they are rewarded for being light or one handed dex based melee, they can be surprisingly effective if they don't follow that fighting style as well.

you have a similar thing to weapon training from fighter. probably charmed life is cause fighters have bravery? and panache = grit, deeds = deeds, nimble = nimble, bonus feats = bonus feats from gunslinger.

Basically it's a gunslinger that uses piercing weapons and gains training in piercing from fighter. And oddly enough no good fort save even though both parents have good fort.

I can just imagine the Fighter staring at the Gunslinger: "Honey, were you cheating on me with the Rogue?"

"That didn't count! I swear!"
