what is the best way to get a familiar to cast Shield Other?

Advice

Umd wands, staves, and scrolls is one way, with the staff or scroll the being the better options. There is some feat that allows your familiar to cast spells either through tattoo or some other way. I'm guessing the scribe scroll feat may be the simplest way to do it with UMD.

your thoughts?

Use improved familiar to get a familiar with hands and a voice. Then get UMD for wands.

You understand that the familliar casting shield other means that IT takes the damage the target does not?

Yes. Some familiars have regeneration. Eldritch fighter build or barbarian build. Some kind of melee tank of doom.

Tumor familiar
Protector familiar archetype
lvl 5 it gains constant shield other ability, and the 5 fast healing will help keep it alive.

Shield other from a wand lasts only an hour. Not really what I want. I prefer to get them to last an actual adventuring day. 8 -12 hours. By the time I get the I. Familiar, 1 hour probably isn't the most effective.

That sounds good, does a fast healing 5 stack with regeneration 2? Would the familiar effectively have fast healing 3 and regeneration 2 instead?

You don't have to use the tumor familiar, it's just tough to argue against it when it has fast healing 5 when it's attached. The real thing that matters here is the protector archetype which is where the shield other comes from, as well as several other abilities.

If you're set on using another familiar which has regeneration 2 then you can use that too with the archetype.

I will look into this.

Imbue with Spell Ability is another good way to do it. Obviously easier if you're a Cleric or Shaman. Make sure your buddy has a 9 Wis though.
