Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Caster killing archetype, prestige class, or feat chain for the fighter. It's been years and they still don't have an option that's worth a damn.

Exactly which casters are you going after? The wizards that can alter reality with a Wish, scry on any reputable threat, and set up contingency plan after contingency plan whilst preparing for a fight? A decapitating, hasted magus throwing critical hits left and right? A mesmerist playing the pupper master, begging for you to show your face? Evil cleric necromancers? Enchanting Bards? Transforming Druids?

Which is your biggest gripe?

I want a gunslinger archetype that is good at stopping spells.

"The enemy wizard casts fireball."
"I shoot his spell out of the air."
"...Make an attack roll."

The Witch Killer slayer archetype in Horror Adventures is close to what you're looking for. There is also the Cult Hunter investigator archetype from that same book. The Faith Hunter inquisitor archetype (Ultimate Intrigue) could also work.

I know that back in D&D 3.5, there were options to counter spellcasters, I assume you're looking for a similar thing here in Pathfinder, right ;) ?

What kind of abilities would you like them to have?

If my memory doesn't fail me, I believe he's looking for:

- resistance against spells
- bonuses on attack rolls when attack a spellcaster
- increases on Concentration DCs
- bonuses on saving throws
- ability to be "more potent" on attacks of opportunity against a spellcaster
- deflecting/reflecting spells back

I don't quite understand what's missing for half of those. Step up and strike? A few prepared actions... Play a drow, half-drow or svirfneblin... Disruptive isn't too great alone, but...

There are ways to build a character as an anti-mage. There are prestige classes like Master Spy built to sneak beneath their radar. There will always be full-attacking ranged classes to take them out at a distance, or lock them down with prepared actions.

What Exactly would you be looking for to deal with the big, bad casters, when you're playing a role better suited to knock down all their minions without breaking a sweat?

Dwarves can get at least SR 5 + character level too (Magic Resistant alternative racial trait), but they have to sacrifice hardy for it. Alternatively you can improve the hardy bonus to +4, via Steel Soul feat.

When it comes to weapons, whips can be nice, with 15 ft. reach, just one hand occupied (the other could hold a longsword or similar weapon) and two feat trees building on it: Whip Mastery and Serpent Lash. You can also add Combat Patrol on top of it.

The Spellcut feat does this, to some extent.
