I will be closing recruitment this friday. Hopefully this gives the time needed for those partially completed to finish up.
@rorek555: Unless you answer my question about crafting I'll be withdrawing my interest. Can I make my mask into a "mask of inspired of charisma"(instead of making a headband of alluring charisma), if so, would I have to pay anything extra for changing the slot?
@Lady Rosa Lumminass: How come you are applying for more games when you don't even have time to play in those you are currently in?
oyzar |
Cool, I'll make my character then.
I'm thinking to take one level in Warder (Dervish Defender), assuming you allow the Riven Hourglass discipline from Path of War Expanded which they now get access to.
oyzar |
Can I buy wands to craft? I want to craft a headband of mental superiority (cha, int) for my mask, but turns out fox's cunning isn't on any of my spell lists. So I could buy two wands of fox's cunning (9000 GP) in order to craft the item since it takes 90 days to craft it? Or am I stuck unable to craft it? Can I buy the int part for 36000 GP then craft it into a headband of mental superiority (It actually follows exactly the same rules as adding on abilities)?
oyzar |
actually, in Pathfinder you don't need access to a spell to make items like this. It simply raises the spellcraft DC to create it. You need specific spells if it says the caster must have X or for spell trigger and spell-completion items.
I know, except for the fact that the OP states otherwise.
Edit: I think I'll just craft my mask into alluring charisma and buy the headband the normal way.
Rigor Rictus |
I was assuming both were right; that what the OP meant was that you must meet all the conditions needed to craft the item on your own, and couldn't assume someone in your past was there to help you (probably by donating the required spell). However, as Philo points out, the spell isn't always needed, so as long as you have enough skill ranks (to take ten on the check and still succeed, presumably), then you may have all the required spells without having the spell at all, as there is no required spell under those circumstances. If you can't take 10 and succeed (or in te case of potions, due to a silly nerf, aren't allowed to make a skill check instead), then you have to account for the spell, and pay the appropriate fee for a scroll, wand, hireling, etc.
Rigor Rictus |
I read that as meaning the same as what I wrote; that the spell MUST be accounted for, and not that you literally have to be a caster of that spell.
If that what was intended, well GM's rules are the rules, but it would be a very arbitrary and imbalanced way of doing things. Only casting classes would be able to craft (No Master Craftsmen allowed), and even then, craft only certain things. If balance and limits on crafting is what is being aimed for, making everything above board and accounted for is much more even, as it allows the builds that go out of their way to gain crafting abilities to still benefit from them, which given the greater feat investment typically required, they definitely should!

I'm a bit late to this, is there still room for new applicants before Friday?
I want to make a Lawman. LN, probably Human, Gunslinger 5/Grand Marshal 10 on one side of the Gestalt (probably Inquisitor on the other, though maybe a Hawkguard Warder). I can probably draw him up pretty quick, it's a concept I've had in mind for a while now and this seems like a good campaign to put it in (Captain of the Guard or some such in Belthouse, drafted into the war for the survival of the nation or volunteered).
Inquisitor + Belthouse kind of depends on whether an Inquisitor of a concept (like Clerics of a concept) are allowed. So, an Inquisitor of Justice. Since they don't follow deities and all.
Stats probably will be (with the Focus and Foible method):
Str: 12
Dex: 18
Con: 14
Int: 14
Wis: 16
Cha: 8
Are Advanced Firearms available?
Rynjin |
What kind of naming conventions does Belthouse have, and what's its basic culture besides "Technologically advanced Oligarchy"? Is it more of a vaguely European-style nation, or something else?
Edit: going with "Vaguely French" due to mention of Napoleonic tactics.
Edit 2: What's the cost for Advanced Firearms and their ammunition? Normal cost, 10% cost (as Guns Everywhere rules)? And/or can you start off with an Advanced Firearm as your "Battered" gun at 1st level?
rorek55 |
Advanced firearms are still normal cost, as such, most of the military still use the non-advanced ones. (musket and the like).
Belthouse is... a very Napoleon period style mixed with a steampunk one.
Take most of the steampunk clothing and style (not the darker tropes), add in some Napoleonic period culture(not just french particularly, though they influenced many), and finally throw in a large smidgen of colonialism England and viola.

Interesting, so a real 1800s vibe, I think then the high courts of Europe would be a great model for the Elf sub, principality's and kingdoms of the Elf Empire.
Then my PC would be like a Female Machiavellian / "Bene Gesserit" her faith like her sisters of the order, is linked to the Empire itself. They have a credo of Civilization and Emergent Science.

On another note
Wis mod to AC.
Both Monk and Ascetic give the wisdom Mod as the Bonus to AC,
I am taking it that they do not stack, as pathfinder has a rule that only NA stacks for AC and other similar bonuses do not. So I have only added the monks Wis mod.
next.
The Cleric Ascetic Domains
The Ascetic Archetype for Cleric says nothing about having one less Domain, I am sour that must be wrong, as most other Cleric Archetypes reduce the number of Cleric Domains to 1, and the Ascetic gets a list of new spells in place of spontaneously casting. So I have done that, She only has then Inevitable Domain [Law] as her single Domain.
"Dawn" Sheva Callister |
This is Corsario's submission. Hope you like it.
Nation you are from?
Dawn, as she calls herself now, was born on a summer solstice on a small Kingdom in the Sovereign States of Oswell. Sun Valley is a small kingdom where the worship of Sarenrae is dominant, and where the birth of a child with a prominent Birthmark like Sheva Callister's (her birth name) was accepted as a great omen (Her Birthmark trait).
Your thoughts of your home nation:
Sheva was raised by the clerics in the temple, learning about Sarenrae's message of goodness, redemption and healing for everyone. She learned to cherish the freedom and peace of her hometown, and the values of democracy, respect and acceptance of Oswell as a whole. She was trained since birth to become one of Sarenrae's chosen, a weapon in her fight against evil in the world (Her reactionary trait).
Your characters thoughts on the other nations/races before the great war?
She was thought that her mission was to go to other lands, and other peoples, and teach her gospel with actions. Go and show them what Sarenrae's might could do, and unite them in protecting the innocent and vanquishing evil.
Your characters thoughts on them now?
She is saddened by the loss of life and the time it has taken for everyone to set aside their differences, and start working together. But she is a firm believer in their redemption, and the ability of everyone to become better, to unite behind a worthy goal, to prove themselves able to defeat evil.
What your character did before the war/draft?
She was trained for this day, she was honed to become a living weapon, an embodiment of Sarenrae's will and scimitar, a new Dawn for all the good people in all the kingdoms.
What your character did to become recognized during battle?
The young woman, floating in the air on top of a column of fire (Greater Flame Jet), within a nimbus of flames (Elemental Overflow) while flickering flames cover all of her skin and cleric clothes (Flame Shield), leading the troops during assaults, preaching about unity, tolerance, good and faith while hurling great blasts of blue fire attract the attention of many people.
A couple feats she preformed to garner his renown/power:
Defeat a powerful demon to recover her Belt of Physical Might (DEX/CON) +6, and lead one part of the Oswell army against Razeria, defeat them, and then defend the prisoners making sure they weren't mistreated, aiming for a future alliance with Razeria.
Goals, what does you character want to accomplish?
To defeat both the undead and the fiends attacking, while promoting the worship of Sarenrae.
What drives you?
Faith. Hope. Good.
----
She is a Pyrokineticist / Cleric of Sarenrae. I'll add the crunch to the alias tomorrow. It is all finished, equipment and all. Just need to type it down.

Rynjin |
-Nation you are from
Belthouse (Espero)
-Your thoughts of your home nation
Belthouse is a flawed nation, but clearly superior to the alternatives. Many of its citizens live in comfort, and the greater technology betters the lives of even the poor over those unfortunate enough to be born to another nation.
The lawless areas of the lower streets are the bane of Roland's existence...or at least they were before the war. Despite all his efforts to clean up those streets, as soon as he raids one den of thieves, or drug manufacturer, or smuggler's hideaway, seemingly three more spring up to take their place.
-Your characters thoughts on the other nations/races before the great war
While there is certainly nothing wrong with those nations, or the people who live there, he can't help but pity those who don't know the wonders of Espero. That they don't know what they're missing by not being a part of the greatest empire in the world is the only comfort they have.
-Your characters thoughts on them now.
Despite any petty nationalism that still linger, Roland has a deep respect for the other human and non-human nations that have banded together against the dual forces of chaos and death. While he still believes in natural Belthousian superiority, he doesn't allow that to hinder his working relationship with others, and keeps such thoughts to himself unless clearly challenged.
-What your character did before the war/draft
Roland was (and is) the Grand Marshal of Belthouse. Before the draft, Roland traveled often, settling disputes and organizing (and leading) stings against major criminal operations and threats to national security across the country. His duties within the city of Espero were much the same, though he spent more time filling out paperwork and dealing with diplomats and their security than he was generally comfortable with. Roland is authorized to act as judge, jury, and executioner in any legal case
-What your character did to become recognized during battle
While on assignment to one of the border cities to act as a Judge, a Demon incursion pushed into the town. Roland quickly organized a militia formed from the townsfolk and a strong core of a dozen of his own men and defended the town from attack. Reports say he single-handedly felled the majority of the Demons, sending out a hailstorm of bullets from his trusty shotgun, and drew most of the Demons' attention to himself, taking the brunt of their attacks. On the rare occasion a villager was attacked, he did his best to interpose himself between them, and on several occasions used his marksmanship skills to knock killing blows off course mid-swing with a well-timed shot.
Roland earned a commendation for his bravery, and was drafted into the army, where it was felt he'd do more good as a military leader (though he was allowed to keep his badge, and may use it at his discretion).
-A couple feats he preformed to garner his renown/power
Roland worked his way up the ladder the hard way, joining the Belthouse army at a young age, and once his contract was up, enrolled in the Guard academy. Roland proved a quick study, with a natural knack for interrogation and investigation, at gunpoint if need be.
His first major success was taking down the Black Smile street gang, a vicious group of killers and muggers that plagued the streets of Espero for years before Roland identified their leader and followed him back to his hideout. Giving this information to his superiors earned him both the right to participate in the raid (where every member was either killed or captured, tried, and executed), and a promotion.
The rest of his promotions came from similar exemplary raids.
Perhaps his most well known exploit is the one that earned him promotion to Grand Marshal. After one of the current Barons aroused his suspicions during a routine talk about tithes, Roland began investigating him.
Long story short, after months of gathering evidence, and building an ironclad case, Roland finally had proof that this Baron was a traitor to the emperor, displeased with the way the man was coordinating the war effort, and was plotting with several other, minor nobles to overthrow him and somehow take his place. Roland personally shackled the man, and was thanked in person by the emperor himself. Though one thing has bugged him since: There were hints of other co-conspirators Roland never ferreted out. Perhaps even ones from other nations trying to destabilize Belthouse...but he could never find proof of their existence, only whispers.
Goals, what does you character want to accomplish?
Roland wants this war over and done with more than most. His beloved nation is under assault from two sides, and bears the brunt of the Demonic attacks, and it's slowly taking its toll on the people of Belthouse. They grow disgruntled and angry, and violent crime has gone up as the citizens take out their pent-up frustrations on each other, rather than the threat they can't do anything about.
Roland wants to end this war, first and foremost.
More long term (and one of his major goals as Grand Marshal), Roland wants to set up a more powerful police force, a powerful force for law and order across the nation, patrolling the more lawless area more regularly. He especially wants to eradicate the criminals of the lower quarters of Espero, the unsightly blemish on the otherwise shining city.
Roland is under no illusion that all crime can be truly eradicated, but he believes it can be mitigated to the point of making every other country on Azalia envious of the peace and prosperity Belthouse's citizens share, relatively free of fear of crime.
What drives you.
Roland is driven by his strong sense of justice and morals. It informs most of his actions when interacting with other people. While his job has made him understandably paranoid, and often gruff to the point of rudeness, he strives to never let his personal prejudices get in the way of the due process of the law. People are innocent until proven guilty in his eyes, and he hesitates to kill unless he truly must (having gotten very good at shooting to wound his target), preferring to take his opponents in alive (if bruised and unconscious) to stand a fair trial, and has been known to personally apologize to people he has violently subdued if they are exonerated.
Hope the Mythweavers sheet is okay. If not, I can move it over to a forum-based sheet fairly quickly.
Just about done, just need languages. And one question: Can the Bludgeoner Feat (deal Nonlethal without penalty) apply to guns? They're B and P, and Bludgeoner works with Bludgeoning weapons, but I wasn't sure if that meant ONLY Bludgeoning. I guess it's not a big deal since I attack Touch anyway and can eat the -4, but I kinda wanted the feat.
rorek55 |
bout to head to classes, so let me answer some questions.
@Rynjin as Corsario said for crafting, as for the feat... how about a "rubber" ammo type requirement for it? and as far as languages... There isn't much more than the normal race divided ones. Aside from the following, which, basically splits the human empires-
-Latin (ancient, magical language, so if you are a mage you probably now this, it's seen as more "magical" than Draconic, which is almost dead now sense most dragons have been systematically hunted down and slain/captured)
-Thousian- Belthouse National Language
-Alorant- National Language of The Kingdom of Aloran
-Low/High Gothic-Razeria doesn't have a real national language, most of their "work force" speaks the common language or Gothic, which I to this day haven't decided a good name on. Their wizard "overseers" usually speak a mixture of draconic/Abyssal/Latin/Infernal/insert magical language to try and show off to others here. Although, I suppose if you wanted to "fit in" with their limbo language "Gothic" would work well, which is itself split into High Gothic and Low Gothic. Low Gothic is mostly the common language with bits and words thrown in from high Gothic, High Gothic is the closest thing to a "National Language" for the magi and is complex and mixes Latin, Common, and bits of Draconic. (Word of advice, the Magi HATE low Gothic, and see it as a mock to their high Gothic language.)
-High Common-The Sovereign states have no "national" language particularly, theirs is a Semitic language consisting of slightly altered languages of the larger empires they are close too. This has made them rather good at diplomacy as their diplomats usually speak, in at least some way, other Empires languages. I suppose if I had to give a language set to them... Lets just call it High Common, which gives you understanding of the common language, and rudimentary understanding of the other human national languages (Save High Gothic), good example would be a normal high school student talking to someone that speaks ye olden Shakespearean English, with an accent(or worse).
Other languages that aren't really languages can include
Belthouse Military Signals (body+hand)
Elven sign Language (hand)
Languages that are non-existant or extremely rare
Goblin (long been hunter to extinction or more likely, into hiding)
Celestial
Giant
any elemental Language. (the few that speak this come from evlivh or gnome decent, although some Magi from Razeria speak it.)
@Lady Cimbalian, you are correct, they wouldn't stack.
As for that domain its 3pp so per the norm would be stronger than most of the stuff Paizo has released. However, I offer another solution. Take two domains But take the diminished casting as well. (-1 spell/day from each level, you still gain bonus spells/day from wisdom as normal) the reason being your focus on your body/rituals takes you away from your magical prowess.
Edit: Editing for clearness, and homebrew ammo
Rubber Ammo This type of ammo may be used with the "Bludgeoner" feat to deal non-lethal damage, however, if used without this feat or used to deal lethal damage the user takes a -4 attack penalty.
Does this work?
Rigor Rictus |
However, if you're a letter of the law type, I've always assumed range weapons could be used non-lethally the same as any other weapon. While it does't exactly make logical sense, it could be explained by aiming for a non-vital area (intentional flesh-wound).
If a device was available, you would think that it replaced the need for such a thing. An alternative might be that rubber ammo automatically inflicts Non-Lethal damage, but resolves against regular (as opposed to Touch AC), as the rounds will easily be deflected by anyone wearing even a minimum of armour.
If you have the Bludgeoner feat, then perhaps you can still resolve against Touch AC, by aiming for an unprotected (and therefore likely non-vital) area.

Thanks for the feed back.Rynjin |
I don't like that it increases the misfire value by 1. I'm already disappointed I couldn't get it to 0. Unless somebody knows a cheap way to lower it besides a Reliable weapon.
Also I didn't realize until now that you could full attack with the Scatter shot portion. That's pretty neat.
Then again, I could just take that, since it's mostly only used on normal guys, who probably won't have very many levels anyway. I won't really be using nonlethal in a life or death scenario. Saves me a Feat.
Thanks for the Rubber Ammo option though Rorek, I would have snapped that up if I was using a Revolver or Rifle. Well, maybe. Why does it take a -4 without Bludgeoner? You ALREADY take a -4 without Bludgeoner.
Also, I assume we get regional languages for free? I.E. everyone from Belthouse starts knowing Common and Thousian, or everyone from Razeria knows Common and Gothic?
Stupid site ate my edit.
Short version:
-Could I have learned Abyssal and Necril, even if from just overhearing enemy commanders shouting orders?
-Are any of the "Monster Languages" (Aklo, Undercommon, Sylvan, Aboleth, etc.) likely to be at all useful, or even possible to learn?

Dwarf FCB
Slate Spider5 levels of mysterious stranger
But in all honesty I don't think a misfire chance of 2 (or 1) is all that bad. Especially since, as you said, you won't really be throwing non-lethal around all the time anyways (not to mention that undead are immune to nonlethal, though loading shells with ghost salt could be an inventive alternative).
rorek55 |
@Rynjin yeah, it would be better if the feat allowed rubber ammo to hit touch AC.
Native languages: Only the ones listed here are free.
Razeria peasant/resistance member: common and low gothic
Razeria magi: High gothic, Latin, one other language of your choice.
Aloran serf/knight/soldier: Alorant,
Aloran Noble: common and Alorant
Sovereign States: Common, (High Common: This basically for low skill point classes, it lets you somewhat communicate with anyone that doesn't know common, also counts as its own language between two people who speak it)
Belthouse: Common, Thousian
Northern Dwarves: Dwarvish, Teran
Southern Dwarves: Dwarvish, common
Gnomes: Gnomeish, common
Elven: Elvish, choice between: Common, Sylvan, Elven sign language, or Latin
Halflings: Common, Halfling
Also, on cultures here is something to help you figure out better each races/empires -feel-.
Think of Aldoran as late medieval with signs of early Renaissance, minus the tights.
Sovereign States, Take America, and the Holy Roman Empire (Note, the one lead by Austria) Mash them together about 20/80 respectively and viola.
Dwarves are Dwarves, mix D&D/pathfinder dwarves with Middle earth dwarves and you get a good Idea.
Gnomes: If you have played World of Warcraft, take those gnomes, mix in a little fey ancestry from D&D Gnomes, and thats a good idea of them. Lil Pranksters....
Halflings: Honestly, Shire folk is the best way to describe them.
Elves: take Tolkien elves and D&D Elves, mix a tiny bit of those two with Elder scroll elves(mostly their superiority complex and usage of magic), and thats what they are like.
Razeria: Think Middle Eastern/Asian mix with the European serfdom thrown in. Their lands are mostly Desert, save the cities they magically sustain.
Rynjin |
I may drop some ranks in Linguistics...currently I have more potential languages known than what are really available. I took it mainly because I figured being able to Detect Forgeries was useful for a lawman.
Currently I have: Common, Thousian, Low Gothic, High Gothic, Latin, Alorant, High Common, Belthouse Military Signals, Elven Sign Language, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Halfling, Sylvan, Abyssal, Necril
That's 14 out of the 21 I can have.
Are Skill Unlocks available?
