Yeah, I know Troy has said that he plans to finish Giantslayer no matter what. But I can't help think that with the explosion of their popularity and additional projects, that they may just scrap this campaign with a TPK. Troy running 2 games and playing in Skids and running GCP business may lead to burnout.

Then Troy can focus on Starfinder and the business. And Skids Azlant can fill the PF void (maybe they'll even bump that show to free instead of Patron).

Or else were due for another 2 months of filler episodes to get the current party up to level 10 or 11.

I feel that as outside obligations due to starting the business, studio rental, other podcasts and finding new cast members have taken up a lot of the guys time, the quality of the podcast has gone down. I’d much rather have the guys put out one incredible podcast than 3 pretty good ones. There’s lots of places I can find that are pretty good. Until recently I could count on the GCP being great.

I finally caught up to the podcast last week, just in time for all of these changes. It would be quite unfortunate if their success caused the podcast to change dramatically, as I pretty much love it as it is now. I guess we'll see how things shake out once the second and third podcasts get fully underway.

In my opinion a TPK would be the closest thing to getting them back on track.

They need a properly leveled party in order to survive book 4 unless Troy is going to start seriously altering the encounters to be easier.

Book 4 of Giantslayer isn't kidding around.

Yeah, the last few episodes have been great. Something tells me that the reveal at the end of the latest episode was improvised by Troy, based on the conversation the characters were having amongst themselves just a few minutes prior.

yeah, i disagree.

he's been hinting at her class since the battle on the mountain. and he's been using members of that class throughout the AP to great effect.

this was always in his back pocket. obviously, he couldn't know that the party was going to go to Skelt again at this juncture, but he did know what he was going to do with her.

i was just turning in excited about what Barron was going to do and then WHAM! cray.

I'm not sure to whom you're referring when you say her class.

Spoiler:
I'm referring to the reincarnation of Gormlaith as a half-orc.

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I do not recall this being hinted at.

Where did you get a reincarnation from ?

I just got that the half orc girl had spoken to her dead spirit - so is either an oracle or spiritualist

you aren't listening close enough.

Spoiler:
the half orc said that she spoke to death. she relates that death said that Lorc's time isn't over. Pembroke asks - who is this? then Troy (voice ambiguous) says "she says her name is gormleith".

the half orc is lorc's ORACLE DAUGHTER. it's not Brinya. Brinya didn't have the accent. Just went back and checked. Lorc's daughter was hinted at being an oracle on the mountain when they asked the survivors about her.

i think that Lorc's ORACLE DAUGHTER made it back home on her own. "Death" is the spirit of Gormleith, which has spoken to her.

you may well be right. we'll find out tomorrow.

VERY EXCITED.

My perception of it was that

Spoiler:
the half-orc (reincarnated Gormlaith) was physically in the room with the party ("from the back of the room"), not being communicated with through an oracle or medium (that was also in the room).

Now I am really confused. I'll have to listen to this a few more times I guess.

OK, I listened to it a few more times. I think I am way off now assuming it was

Spoiler:
Gormlaith reincarnated

I didn't catch the significance of the "she says" part. Now I get it.

That's what I get for doing other things when listening!

well... that was interesting.

Spoiler:
i never liked what they did with Lorc after book 3. joe basically agreed to weaken his own character. had he remained a half-orc, he doesn't go down to that scythe, methinks

I've listened to dozens of actual play podcasts over the years and the glass cannon network shows are right at the top. Great audio quality (including drops and ambient sounds), a good grasp of the rules (they do make some mistakes of course, like we all do from time to time), a great balance of story, humor, and combat make this one my favorite podcasts of all times.

I was worried as the network expanded that quality might suffer, but I've found that these guys are just putting out more great content. I have listened to every single episode they have ever put out.

They also do a starfinder podcast called Androids and aliens.

Highly, highly recommended!

he actually doesn't.

there's lots of things that go into that perception - including his own comments on the subject - but he and the party generally make easily avoidable mistakes.

What a series of episodes!

My predictions for a near future episode:

Spoiler:
Pembroke's soul was the explosion of light when he disintegrated and it will enter Golabrous' body and that is how Skid will continue in the game. Golabrous/Pembroke (Golabroke?) will now be a cleric/wizard multiclass.

I have no idea what Matthew is going to do. Play as Metra with the main party perhaps?

I think the intention of episode 200 is to explain where a level 13 backup comes from should any existing characters die

... so only Troy could make fighting the same enemy over and over not get boring to listen to.

Yeah, kudos to him. I have to admit I wouldn't be able to keep my cool as much as he is with how well they seem to be rolling over those giants (which says more about me as a gm than the glass cannon guys). I think if I was still going to run 1E these last episodes at the very least would have me banning antagonize. :)

(j/k don't want to start an argument)

I used to be annoyed when my players would steamroll at high levels near the ends of APs. But I find it easier just to let them have their glory instead of trying to find inventive ways to challenge them. That way we can start a new AP sooner. Hopefully PF2 at high levels is more balanced.

Maybe Troy is taking the same approach as GS is getting kind of stale for me.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I've actually partially written a rewrite to book 5, which I think is an interesting premise but fails to deliver a challenge to high level parties, especially those who have a career in Giant Slaying. A more specialized party would have an even easier time in Ashpeak, honestly.

High level PF1e isn't necessarily unbalanced, though the cracks in the system show more easily. But the difference between PF1e and PF2e high level play is that high level play on 1e is a different game, whereas 2e is the same game with bigger numbers and more cool toys.

The problem with writing high level APs in 1e is party's now run a gambit of power levels and what would be a curbstomp for one party is a cakewalk for another. You have to customize high level 1e play to the group, and that's impossible (or very difficult at least) to write for.

Yeah that party is definitely not made to crush giants. If they were they would steam roll it quite a bit quicker.

I tried Troy's hot dish recipe last night. It was OK, not anything mind-blowing like he suggested. It was a big soggy, so perhaps I left it in the slow cooker too long (about eight hours - the same as I do for other chicken meals). It definitely didn't taste like a Thanksgiving meal in every bite as Troy described it. Perhaps if I had used turkey instead of chicken that would be the case.
