Can players be from Mwangi Expanse?

I had a concept together for a shamanist elf druid without too much baggage. This originally meant being from Mzali, smuggled out for ideological reasons, now a fervent Grand Lodge member. Looking at the objectives this season for each faction though, I am beginning to think this backstory would be a TON of baggage, sort of the opposite of my objective. Any advice either for a different country or origin or ways to avoid "Baggage"?

No, but their characters can! ;)

What kind of baggage are you talking about with this season's faction goals?

Being from the mawangi expanse is fine.

Its not baggage, its backstory!

Just don't have white hair or look remotely drowish and you'll be fine.

I'm playing a 4th level Hunter from the Expanse. I started her as an Aasimar before they phased out from always available. She's actually a lot of fun to play. One of my favorite characters. I played her through the trilogy set in the expanse. It was highly appropriate and tons of fun. I'm not sure what Baggage you're talking about. If you think about it, most people aren't going to typically travel from their little village much, so there is going to be plenty of places in the vast area of the expanse that they are unfamiliar with.

I've got a 5th level Mwangi Saurian Shaman Druid from the Expanse. She was made orphan by slavers and is raising a baby t-rex who thinks she's his mommy. :)

Kezzie, your image gives me so much hope. I am VERY happy to see this, I saw this Season's Grand Lodge goals were all about The Mwangi Expanse, was afraid that area was "plot central" or something, and I didn't want to dive into that with my first CORE character.

I've had N'Kendi in play since season 4. She is one of my favorite characters to play.

Dont worry, Mwangi is so big, it doesnt matter :)

I've got an Ekujae Inquisitor who purged the fabled Drowning Stones of ichtyic invaders, a ninth level Magaambyan Zenj Magus who rocked Technic Siege( a bit too much, should tone his archery down a tad) and a Terwa Highlander Mbe'ke Druid who found Askhurhall and adopted a baby T-Rex from the Aspis.

Yeah, damned right I dig Mwangi. And this Season.

Players can absolutely be from the Mwangi Expanse. The area features tons of small towns and tribes, as well as several large city-states, it just doesn't have one strong, central political entity (making it more like the River Kingdoms or Galt than, say, Cheliax or Taldor).

I really want to play an Ekujae girl who attended the Magaambya. Wizard into Magaambyan Arcanist. ^_^

Is that prestige class legal, by the way?

Signs Point to Yes:

I'm not a big fan of VTT, but I'll think about it - my previous attempts were from a GM's perspective, so it's possible it'll be better. ^_^

(As for PbP, I've thought about it, but haven't really wanted to try it yet. It's not something I'm especially interested in. This is also relevant for whenever the whole wretched race-boon topic comes up.)

Where's here? The actual organization between The society as a whole and the individual places where games take place can be a little patchwork.

warhorn is one place to look. But their search functionality is a little... Nuts.

"Here" is West Michigan. I'll admit I haven't tried looking that hard; I haven't really been leaving the house much at the moment. ^_^

I know there's not currently a group at the games store I'm most accustomed to, although I may start one sooner or later. I've discussed it a little with the owner.

West Michigan!? I'm there!

If you check MichiganPFS.org , under Sign-Ups or Forum, you'll find out where in West Michigan there are games. It won't be your regular store, but you can either start one up there or travel a bit to get a feel for PFS first if you want.

Also, welcome!

Can try to reach out to one of the regional coordinators in MI, maybe. Even if they're not in your area, they may be aware of PFS games that are.

Edit: I give up. You ninjas win thiiiis Friday... but know that our piratical hearts will never stay beaten for long! (morale improves rapidly)

Best place to find games in Michigan is Michigan PFS

I play regularly in Greenville -- we've got games running every other Sunday. (Six tables last week.)

I know that there are regular games in Kalamazoo and we're reestablishing Grand Rapids.

Feel free to PM if you want to go into more detail.

EDIT: Double-ninja'd. Sigh.

Getting that store started will be a lot easier if there's other players in the area, and trying to run pfs just from reading the guide without ever seeing it strikes me as trying to drive just from reading the manual. Really really really helps to see it done. I'd try to pop over at least once even if its too far to make it a regular thing.

The guide has a list of venture officers in the area, they should know where the nearest games are.

.. or even better posters popping up as soon as you announce your geography...

I have a hunter/British colonial explorer who wandered into the Expanse in search of ancient civilizations and came out 10 years later a hunter. If pinned down about it, I plan on ab-libbing something about "sticking on the edges" and "define 'lived in the Expanse'". One of my favorite characters right now.

Silver Crusade 5/5 5/55/5 ***

My 12th level Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gozreh (this profile) was from the Mwangi Expanse. Since the Aspis Consortium has such a hold on that region he sought out the Pathfinder Society (and the Silver Crusade) with a sort of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" philosophy. He didn't like all the rules and regulation of the Society, but anything that furthered their goals lessened the tyranny in his home region, so he considered his involvement fulfilling.

I also have a 4th level Zenj Paladin of Rowdrosh (this profile) that I enjoy immensely. The Zenj are the nomadic Mwangi people that herd livestock out on the plains. Not everyone from the Expanse has to be from the Jungles.

Crystal, sorry to correct you, but, without some sort of miracle, or deific intervention, players cannot be from the Mwangi Expanse.

Player characters, on the other hand, can be.

Indeed, I know one of my PCs has Mwangi as his origin, I remember someone, on my all-too-long list of PCs, speaks Polyglot as his native language....

Well, some of us are nomadic, since we are, after all, the major ethnic group. Among hundreds of thousands, it takes all kinds, eh? For instance, I've always been an urbanite since the family has lived in Nantambu for hundreds of years. And I hate being on the savannah. Winding summery hell...not that jungle's any better. Or the rivers. Now temperate coasts, some wine, maybe a good book, that's the stuff.

Nethys shelter you.

Some day, perhaps not far away, I want to roll a character that is, pretty much, Captain Kirk, who was stranded on an away mission and is now trying to 'fit in' with the general population (and somehow joins the Pathfinder Society) so that no one knows he is an alien from outer space. This would give me the opportunity to subject people, 4-6 hours at a time, to a really bad William Shatner impression. It's so bad that I haven't even tried to do it yet. It's just in me, waiting to be unleashed, the day I finally roll this character.

He will be a Swashbuckler, I think.

Anyway, if I can do that - then you can be from the Mwangi Expanse.

The hard part will be finding a feat / class that gives you bonuses for wardrobe damage.
