Grand Lodge

Well with Harsk gone that leaves me as the only person who hasn't played this before, and I am a full time employee with a family that is used to play by post meaning 1-2 long posts a day. Is there no way the 4 of us could find a time we all have 2-3 hours to pop onto G+/Roll20 and finish this out? These old bones ain't cut out for what you kids call pbp :p

Grand Lodge

tl;dr I am an Actor player-type, so if during combat there is something I can do to help you guys, tell me here or there and I will, elsewise I'm pretty much on autopilot until we get back to investigating and interacting.

I want to apologize if I get frustrated or curt with combat, or if anyone felt like I drug out that scene with the goblins too long. I'm "The Actor" by Robin Laws' standard of categorization, so I could honestly care less about the details of combat, as long as no one dies but the enemies, and I get the chance to stay true to my character. I enjoy myself between the fights investigating and getting into the details of a scene, interacting with PCs and NPCs to create and enrich personas. I do know Pathfinders' rules well enough, participated in many games in person and online, and have the resources to look up anything I have a question about, but the truth is I'm very likely to stand in the back shooting my wand and having my tiger attack until we can get back to the investigation and the story portions. I am realizing this is a bit more of a dungeon crawl than a "mystery", so if anyone on here has some good advice for what I can do in combat, please share, and I promise to be a bit less "I'm looking for the motivation of the killer by psychoanalyzing his victims" next time :)

Grand Lodge

I see lini is up, still 3 hours until I can post, if it gets to the point you are waiting, I'll do the second half of my original post, using the wand and backpedaling

Grand Lodge

I am at work until 11pm CST,

Lini will be using Produce Flame to attack and backpedaling to the group as she can, kitty will be defending and attacking, but I can't post anymore until 11. Sorry my first combat post was a mess, way trying to walk out the door when I got the alert :/

Grand Lodge

woohoo, filling everything out now!

Grand Lodge

<3 and yeah of course if I am bringing a pre-made it will obviously be something the group needs, even if he will be missing prestige items like the 50-charge wand

Grand Lodge

I want to take part in this convention, but my only current character is a CORE 1, which no events seem open for (not your fault, i'm new but passionate). If I brought a pregen 4 to https://warhorn.net/events/ap-con-2015/schedule/2015/06/28/sessions/76052 (i selected this bc it's Core)

- Would my Core 1 be able to apply credit for the event after he hits 4?
- Would I and the group have any measure of fun having a pre-made at the table?
- Would the DM of this have a personal problem with it, in which case I wouldn't want to do it anyway.

Thanks much, and I look forward to either seeing y'all or rooting you on silently from the forums :D

Grand Lodge

tl;dr
I want to play, I do not have a Core character at 3, my highest is still 1, but could bring a pregen 4. I think you should consider a handful of online sessions instead of doing pbp if you hope to be finished by GenCon, but i'll roll with whatever. And now the rambles!

the rant:
Gods, as much as I WANT to play this, I would have to bring a pre-gen because my highest CORE character is still level 1. A bit of concern though, pbp is hilariously slow, even if you had people posting once a day (side note..yikes, that is a tad intimidating during the summer for parents of kids) that is 60-90 posts. Take a look at http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?410948-The-Messengers-IC (the first PbP game I found on gitp's forums that was 60-90 posts long, there are many more examples) They are 86 posts in as of right now and still what a tabletop or online game would have been 45 minutes, for a 5 hour long session like that, neglecting the fact combat is literally insane in pbp, you are talking more about 4-6 months (people get better and more efficient, more done each day), not 2, definitely not less. My advice is find your folks on here that are interested, and either do the full 5 hour session when all of us can, or arrange a few shorter sessions like 2 hours here, 2 hours there, and knock it out. Not bashing PbP, but it doesn't do well on a time limit.

Grand Lodge

Kezzie, your image gives me so much hope. I am VERY happy to see this, I saw this Season's Grand Lodge goals were all about The Mwangi Expanse, was afraid that area was "plot central" or something, and I didn't want to dive into that with my first CORE character.

Grand Lodge

I had a concept together for a shamanist elf druid without too much baggage. This originally meant being from Mzali, smuggled out for ideological reasons, now a fervent Grand Lodge member. Looking at the objectives this season for each faction though, I am beginning to think this backstory would be a TON of baggage, sort of the opposite of my objective. Any advice either for a different country or origin or ways to avoid "Baggage"?

Grand Lodge

I joke..but the Velociraptor actually looks good, would they be useful in the later campaigns?

Grand Lodge

Thank you very much, and blah if I will have a big cat eventually, I might as well go ahead and have him now. (sarcastic) Maybe I should just ride in on a T-Rex, DINOMANCER! But yeah i see your point, especially in Core, I'll go ahead and change over to big cat, just so I can in theory keep the same companion for as long as s(he) lives.

Grand Lodge

Yikes, best I ask this now than at my table tonight, I planned to bring a wolf companion with my ranged-druid (will be a caster eventually, but at level 1..yeah, <3 my bow). Is there an overwhelming reason why I should set my mental image of my companion aside for a crunch reason? (aka will the whole party moan when i bring him out instead of the "big cat" craze I see here)

Grand Lodge

Gods, it's been so long since I even thought about weight, and I'm an elf 8 STR...my own body weight is a bit of a concern :) I'll shoot you a message now.

Grand Lodge

Please shoot me a sheet a DM wouldn't have a seizure reading if you can kind sir. I am using Mythweaver to keep an online copy and to be honest it's a bit of a headache maneuvering that tiny font and finding where things go on it versus my physical copy. I'm an old pencil and paper guy so my "real" sheet will always be sitting on my desk.

A second question, other than my sheet, book, (i assume we use the dice roller built into roll20), what other tracking sheets do I need handy? I see an inventory one (which i have blank right now, i hope the 150g initial purchases don't have to be invoiced), a society one (call me boring, Grand Lodge), and reference to some sheet I can only assume we get after the session.

Sorry for the sea of questions, everyone is a virgin once.

Grand Lodge

I applied (as the Druid Archer) and am getting my ducks in a row. Is there a good resource/thread I could read on how to be prepared for the online component of tomorrow? I have my ID number, my character sheet on mythweaver, on Warhorn I have my G+ name, but I am still trying to divine what other sheets I need printed out in front of me/pulled up and what I need to do in Roll20 (if anything) before we begin. Ten Thousand apologies for my neonate questions, everyone must ask them once, and I would rather ask them today than during the session delaying our play.
