Ancestor oracle diety advice

Advice

I was considering pharasma. But there's a necromancer in the party and I was afraid to come at odds with him.

He has the wasting curse so irori didn't seam right. Just not sure.

The history I have so far for him is part of his training to become a Lore keeper oracle he was taken To a graveyard to commune with those long dead. Something happened he doesn't remember but he awoke buried alive next to a corpse.

Well. You could still make the Wasting curse work somewhat. Just say you're an ascetic and the "wasting" is actually you becoming emaciated from fasting, which some people might find unnerving.

The last "official" deity of the Ancestor mystery is Erastil. Perhaps this graveyard held the tombs of your character's family, and their shades appeared to aid their descendant, to protect the family name or something. Being buried alive next to a great ancestor may have been part of the rite or something, perhaps the founder of your bloodline. You could play up the importance of family ties and stuff, wondering if what you're doing is making those old ghosts who gave you your power proud.

You COULD also look at minor gods and stuff not listed, like the Empyreal Lords or other outsiders (depending on your alignment).

I always had the impression that oracles didn't need to worship a specific deity. Couldn't he worship/revere his own ancestors?

To be precise an Oracle does not need to worship anything at all, but her powers are still granted by a Deity or Demigod

This is true, though Erastil, Irori and Pharasma are specifically listed as deities that grant the Ancestors mystery, so that's what I was working off of.

You could be granted powers by a deity other than one you worship.

@Entryhazard
Not entirely true. Possessed Oracle explicitly says your power doesn't come from a deity with that archetype. Oracles with powers that don't come from a deity are possible, even on Golarion

True, my point was that while he doesn't have to worship anything as being Divine powers are still granted so he needs to state the source.

Like, it's very unlikely that the Flame mystery is granted by Gozreh, while it's fitting for Asmodeus, Sarenrae, a powerful fire elemental or some spirit of fire (it's not a coincidence that shaman spirits have the sames categories of oracle mysteries)

Mechanically the "mystery" you receive is unknown, there is nothing that can be done by the character or others that can prevent the oracle for gaining their powers.

Any other assumption there is a DM fiat, as the character/player themselves doesnt know the origin of the mystery.

On the other hand it could be a fun thing, but in the end the Oracle is not "forced" to keep alignments or codes as their "penalty" for the divine powers is their curse and the cleric/paladin counterpart is to be within the alignment of their deity.

However it doesnt prevent the Oracle from worshipping a deity at all and it would be a interesting plothook for the character to find out that their worshipped god wasnt the source of their powers at all.

On the other hand, a oracles power can come from any entity, a demon toying with a mortal? a ghostly presence that attract spirits to the oracle to manipulate the material world? a absent minded deity that accidentally "bled" their powers into the material world onto a unlucky invidual?

The reasons be endless and my idea to you is that your soul is an anchor to the spirit world so that your long lost ancestors finally can find a way out of their unlife by completing their goal through you.
