Alrighty then. What sorts of CRPGs do you play?Uh, let's see. I don't really play any games on my computer anymore. The last was Darkest Dungeon and WoW. Was thinking of picking up Pillars of Eternity.
Ohhhhh...COMPUTER Role-Playing Games. I was thinking CRUEL Role-Playing Games.
Rysky has a bunch of those, but you seriously do not want details.
Especially since most of them end with pugwampis dipped in caramel...

{hangs head in shame} I'm only half pugwampi, so my unluck aura has a range of 0.I think the polarity of his got reversed or something.{gnaws through Red Vines® straps, hops up, runs to escape... stepping in taffy flypaper trap} Escape was so close....Hunt, buddy, have you completely forgotten how to utilize your unluck aura to your advantage?
Hmmmm...you know I always suspected that one of Hunt's parents was a fey creature three apples tall, living in a hollowed out giant mushroom, wearing a white Phoenician hat, no shirt, and footy pants with a hole for a tail.

Just completed a big adventure, saved the world, etc. Got some big time treasure.
So after I kick my parents out of my palace in a bottle - because ewww! - I'm spending 20k to add a couple extra rooms. And I want to add some tapestries and other decor.
After I make some improvements to my sword and armor, I've got about 10k-15k. How much would you consider appropriate for furniture and decor?
Depends on the furniture.

I tried 3e Arms and Equipment Guide and Stronghold Builders.Finally, I hit upon 10% of the difference in Wealth/level for my current and previous (or next) level. Which came out to about 4000gp.
Does that seem like a good amount for luxury furnishings and high quality art?
If you're going off that I would compare it to the cost of the palace, which granted if it's an actual palace that shouldn't be a problem.
But yeah these games don't really have set in stone prices for high art and decorations. It's all on a case by case basis as shown by the instances that you find in published adventures.
So you might want to make a shopping list and run it by your GM.

Might not help, but do you have access to the (2e) 'Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue' ?

I do have Auroras (a sealed original copy, and a reading copy). I'll take a look at that as well.
Rysky, the GM has been basically "whatever", beyond suggesting books to check.
For what its worth, the palace in question is from the Legacy of Fire AP (a side quest from part 5 or 6). I'll be adding some additional space (bedroom and related chambers)above the throne room, by hiring a spellcaster to do another casting of the pocket dimension spell (20k gp). This gets me the room(s), plus extends the main courtyard's height to allow looking out from the bedroom.
Then comes the aforementioned furniture and decor.
What I meant by running a shopping list by your GM is basically make stuff up. Or just say you spend however much on furnishings and flavor text it as it comes up.
As of the time of this post, I have 9275 unread entries in the Ask James Jacobs all your questions thread. Should I read all of those posts, should I skip all of them, or should I only read some of them? If I should only read some, do I just read JJ's replies, or is there some other metric I should use in selecting which to read?

There's a certain tier of intellectual dishonesty with portraying room blocs as available throughout the registration process when they are gone within two hours, and the vast majority of registrants have 'scheduled room reservation times' outside of that two hour zone...

Yeah, I would just read the Directorsaur's responses, should cut that number down by at least half is not more so.
