I am doing this with the Winter Witch Presitge Class. You should only take 1 level of the prestige class you are advancing since it can't advance past level 10.
Or if using ultimate campaign, plan on some retraining down the road. (I have an early entry bloatmage, started back when that was legal. Wiz 1, Bloat 4, Evang 2. If I ever hit Evangalist 7, I will start training a level of bloat mage to wizard before leveling up at each level.)

What do you all think about using Evangelist to advance one of the other prestige classes from Inner Sea Gods, how would that interact with Deific Obedience? The rules as written addresses unlearning Exalted boons assuming having learned them through having high HD.
Obviously in the design phase, each of the classes was intended to have it's specific boons as part of the package. On the other hand this takes an already powerful feat and cranks it up further.

James, class does include prestige class.
Class: Classes represent chosen professions taken by characters and some other creatures. Classes give a host of bonuses and allow characters to take actions that they otherwise could not, such as casting spells or changing shape. As a creature gains levels in a given class, it gains new, more powerful abilities. Most PCs gain levels in the core classes or prestige classes, since these are the most powerful. Most NPCs gain levels in NPC classes, which are less powerful (see Creating NPCs).
If they meant core class only, they would have said core class.

So you are saying if I have a Nature Warden / Mammoth rider their levels do not stack for determining the level of my Animal companion?
Each one says "levels in this class stack with other classes to determine your effective druid level" But they are both prestige classes, and therefore are not counted as classes, right?

It doesn't say "class or prestige class", so unless your GM extends "class" to mean "including prestige classes" it doesn't work.
Again, you reading of the rules and your understanding of words never cease to amaze me: prestige classes are classes - nothing in the rules even hints at them being something else.
The other question is: was the evangelist intended to advance prestige classes? RAW nothing says it wasn't, but RAI is another matter.

Turgan wrote:nothing in the rules even hints at them being something else. How about we ignore my position. There is a fair number of people who think it doesn't do PrC. A quick look showed me 12 threads about this on the first page of search results.
But so far they based that on:
"Prestige classes aren't classes"
I have shown you the rules that say prestige classes are classes, and I have given you examples where they use classes to apply to all classes.
"That's too overpowered"
Fine, in your home game you can house rule it away
"That's not how it's meant to work."
Based on what evidence?

Granted, and I agree. But I doubt there is many examples of them using Class instead of "Class or Prestige Class" when they mean both.
This comes down to the rules are written in a way that requires you not interpret them strictly. This is why many of the FAQ seem to some people to "not follow the rules".

Lets see. Of your twelve threads

Everyone agrees you can.

Everyone agrees you can (but not whether it can take a prestige class past 10.)

Everyone agrees you can.

No, you can't use evangalist to become a level 13 Mystic Theurge.
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qyln?The-Evangelist-An-Exercise-in-Tomfoolery# 1
You can do it, but what happens if you play an exalted / evangalist is unclear.

Nothing to do with PRc
I got bored, so someone else can dig more if they want. But it looks like the general concensus is it works.
The only two people who disagree are you (it doesn't say prestige class) and Mojorat (If it meant prestige class why don't they have any examples of prestige class evangalists.)
Both very weak arguments.
Do you have any examples where they *do* say class or prestige class? I gave you an example up thread where they just say class (mammoth rider and Nature Warden both just say class when they are talking about what classes they stack for counting druid levels.

Not if both classes don't support the choice of animal. Just as per the discussion on druid/ranger combos. If you take a mammoth animal companion that's not supported by the Nature Warden, then no, it does not stack.

Prestige classes are classes too.
When the rules are only referring to the Core Classes, they use that term.
Some additional evidence:
Character Level: The total level of the character, which is the sum of all class levels held by that character.
Class Level: The level of a character in a particular class. For a character with levels in only one class, class level and character level are the same.
So someone who argues that prestige classes aren't classes is also arguing that:
Prestige Class levels don't count towards Character Level.Prestige Classes have no associated Class Level.
