Over at Raging Swan Press's Global HQ, I've been plotting and scheming. My plan—to extend Raging Swan's fell shadow over the gaming hobby—needs your help.
I want to give you a free copy of our largest ever book—GM's Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing worth $19.95.
In return you'll promise (and cross your heart) to post up an honest, informative review of the book to as many of the following places—Paizo, OBS and Amazon—as possible within the next month.
I've got 13 copies to give away via OBS. If you are interested in snagging a copy, and you are a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game GM, drop me an email to gatekeeper [at] ragingswan [dot] com by Thursday evening. I'll send the first 13 applicants a free copy of GM's Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing via OBS (so please include your OBS registered email address in your email) on Friday morning.

i already own it, great book by the way.
Thanks very much for buying the book and your kind words. I don't suppose I could talk you into a review could I? It doesn't have to be a magnum opus, just a short summary of your thoughts. It would be tremendously decent of you, if you could!

Well I'd be happy if the copy I bought in November ever shipped to me :) I got my wilderness dressing but I'm still waiting on the dungeon dressing (not your fault - ordered it from this site!)
*edit*
I bought the pdf/print combo - and based on the PDF alone I got two other GM's to buy the set as well. It is fantastic - and I'll post a review as soon as I actually get my print copy!

Sure I'll write something, probably tomorrow.

I'm curious, does the GM's Miscellany version of DD have any material beyond the individual original DD products (I went and bought them all as they were originally released)?
Yes! We added in a couple more fiendish traps, about 20 pages of minor dressings--torches, locks, smells and so on--as well as some design essays by me and about 40 pages of treasure hoards (which originally appears in All That Glimmers, but's what's a dungeon without treasure?!)

Hi there, Ckorik!
I took a look into your account and it seems that the print copy was just stuck in your sidecart because our system was being stubborn. I've kicked the order loose, and I'll have our warehouse get it sent out as soon as they can.
Please note that because this is part of a bundle, you were not originally charged when the bundle order was placed. When our warehouse processes the order for shipping, that's when you will see the charge finalized.
If there are any further questions or concerns that you may have, just let me know!
Thanks
Katina

Thank you :) I'm one of those crufty people who like a PDF for quick reference (and not carrying hundreds of pounds of books) but really enjoy the printed copy when using it for ideas and reading.

So how much of this product is Pathfinder-specific, and how much would apply to any D&D edition?
Statblocks are pathfinder specific so encounters and traps would have to be converted. Treasure could also need conversion depending on your setting - however a majority of the book (80%+) is pretty much tables and charts you can use for
* Finding minor details that add to a description of a dungeon setting - giving a better 'feel' for a room for example: "you walk into a room - there is a torch on the wall"
or
"you walk into a room - the smell of blood is in the air, a torch is on the wall being held by what appears to be a carved stone arm, the flames flickers with green occasionally"
You can find ideas to spice up set descriptions for almost any dungeon feature you can think of. Outside of that each table is set with a percentile so you can also use this for
* Rolling a random dungeon with rooms features and other goodies
Much like the tables from the back of the 1st edition AD&D DMG. Or if you want to randomly add some spice to a particular dungeon area you can do so with ease. I recommend it to anyone looking for help and ideas on how to make the *setting* more interesting for their players.

I think Ckorik's estimation of about 80% being tables and charts with minimal Pathfinder content fair. Some of the table entries may reference DCs and certain skills (namely Perception) but that kind of thing is dead easy to convert on the fly. The hardest bits to convert would be the fiendish traps; beyond that though it's a pretty edition neutral book.

Ugh, saw this too late. Still, let me dig around and just go buy it, then send a review anyway. A couple gamers came to my table a week ago and had never heard of Raging Swan, so I showed them Wilderness Dressing, made a few random rolls, and whipped off a quick adventure for them. They liked the book and admired it after we were done; I lent it out but then directed them to the site for more gear. The shadow grows...

Cool! Didn't know this was available in print!
Ordering print copy now ...
Heh ... actually, I just ordered print copies of GM'S MISCELLANY: Dungeon Dressing, GM'S MISCELLANY: urban Dressing and GM'S MISCELLANY: Wilderness Dressing!
What can I say, I like good quality stuff in print format :)

I am still reading my copy and still intend to write the review as requested, it's just RL has put a severe cramp in my time available for this activity. You will get your review though, just may take a bit longer than I originally intended. Thanks again.
I'm still in the same boat as well but have a 3 day holiday weekend. Hope to get caught up so I can get to writing soon enough.

The random tables alone* make this a five star book. I was always on the fence about this line Creighton - "Why do I need any help to do any of this stuff?". The short answer is - "I don't need this book, I have an imagination"... The shorter answer is "This rocks!
Seriously, I like this tome, and really feel like I need the hardcopy to fully appreciate it.
I still use the random tables in the Appendix of the 1e DMG. This book is like that, but exponentially expanded.
Nice work and mad props Creighton and all the contributing authors...

I got my review up late last night. Marc Radle, let us know what you think of the print copies of the book.
I'll be honest, reading this book with intent to review was difficult (mainly due to the length of the book). I would lay in bed reading it on the iPad and my eyes would start drooping after 4 or 5 tables. Not because they are boring, but it's just hard to stay focused on such a random assortment of information when I just finished a full workday and an afternoon of engaging with my kids.
It is definitely the sort of book that, if I had a physical copy, I would be flipping through it about once a week just looking for fun ideas to get my brain working!

I'm up to the Concealed Doors section, and hoping to get through more over the long weekend. I'm having the same problem as Itchy - after full days of working with some very demanding children, reading random assortments is a challenge.
That said, I am absolutely loving this. I'll make sure to mention how some small details can provide jumping-off points for even bigger things - such as a ladder being propped against one wall with a bucket of whitewash. Not something you'd expect to find in a typical dungeon, mmm?
Also, school holidays are soon, so I'll have plenty of free time to get this done!

The print copies are awesome! I've always been partial to actual print over digital, and being able to page through these is a treat.
Nice paper stock, good quality printing and perfect binding, heavy cover stock. Absolutely well worth it!
In fact, my biggest regret is that it turns out a don't have enough room on my book shelves for these 3 books (they are really thick!)

You need Raging Swan Press compatible bookshelves, Marc.

Thanks for the kind words about the illumination section, Sethvir. That was my first work of this sort for Raging Swan, so I'm glad you liked it (though Creighton was responsible for light radius of spells and equipment aspect).
(Also, it's original content for this book, so you can't get it on its own.)
