Your formatting is all over the place, little ring, but I am so charmed by you. First ring to make my keeper pile.

that is definitely already a item in the core rules, putting it into a different form doesn't hide that.

Bear in mind that another human being entered the contest. Maybe they riffed off of a well know IP owned by Disney. I'm not saying I'd vote for the item but they took a risk and put their work out for the public to judge and that act is worthy of some respect.

It is way easier to tear someone down than it is to put your stuff out there. Oh and if the creator defends their choices they get DQed... think about that.

I'm all for snark but it needs to be painted in broader strokes. Would you like it if it was you?

Also bear in mind its on the border of breaking contest rules by campaigning for or against something on a public forum. Do what you will but I would tread more carefully.

Finally saw mine, and it was against yet another "this shield disarms/breaks/swallows/oozes/etc. any weapon that hits it."

I still hesitated.

Dedicated Voter Season 8

a weapon that kills things with a single blow no save. just die.

Ah, yes. I too have played a cleric in a party with a damphir companion...

Star Voter Season 8 aka TealDeer

Sigh, that's an unusual, rare weapon I really like and wish I saw more often, with a really, really boring ability that doesn't at all tie into how the weapon works or what it's traditionally used for.

Which just means that next year if they do weapons again I should do my own version.

*e* yet it gets my vote because it was up against an item whose description was 90% backstory and made me go cross-eyed.

Also wondering what the rest of you lads think about the "technomancy" items this year, they are crafted using a feat that is not a magic item creation feat, and the Paizo technology guide specifically calls them out as "non-magical", which also means they cannot be crafted as a magical item, which was the point of RPGSS round one, to make a magical item.

The ones I've seen so far are magical versions of technological items, and therefore they are magical items, and from what I can tell on the ones I've seen, they've covered the bases as far as formatting the construction requirements. I'd say it's a bold choice. May it serve them well.

Note to designers: If you're going to change the name of your item at the last minute, be sure to check your entry to see that you've changed all instances where your item's name appears in the entry. Several folks did not.

That's the problem with not being able to be specific. The item I referred to as a "lighsaber" was neither made of light, nor a sword. But that is what I thought of when I was trying to describe what the item did. No disrespect intended, and I have no way of knowing if the "lightsaber" I saw is the same as anyone else who saw an item and thought "lightsaber."

Star Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Dedicated Voter Season 9

oww, that's I-17 for me BINGO!!!

That's one mistake I'm glad I haven't seen: substituting the word "ruins" for "runes." Almost as bad as an item that can project a lightening bolt (though if someone actually made an item that did that, with a beam that increased the light levels along its path, that would be clever.)

Dedicated Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8

And now a twinkling rune object....and now another glowing ....twisted bone...glowing runes,...twisted chain..........twisted rune.......faintly glowing runes.....rune giant......rune-slaved.....spam and eggs and spam and ham, and spam spam spam with spam.

Got to finally see my item! That was thrilling. Even though I made a huge mistake in the construction. Serves me right for submitting when I only knew about the contest an hour before the deadline!

Hair bleach helm of lightening? But on a character with black hair it is a helm of pippi longstocking or a mask of Anne of green gables

Yes, weapon with the flavorful theme. I upvoted you in spite of the "true power is revealed when..." bit. You deserved it, but I hope your designer grows out of that nasty habit if he/she advances.

Why all the randomness? Some of us like specifics. Also, there are some things on an item that just shouldn't be determined by the roll of a die.

Wow! That one has its own very complicated set of sub rules and "if x then y" paragraphs. Is the required GM professional development day covered by the character, the players or the GM's Union?

You fool, you've triggered my trap card.

Throw a couple of immediate action items in any campaign, watch the players become utterly horrified when an enemy with a bunch of magic items starts spending his turns on full defense.

"By the gods, he could do /anything/ on our turns!"

Also: tentacles. So many tentacles.

:/

That's not a magic item; that's a moral lesson.

That said, there are a dozen or more designers who should take the time to learn the difference between a free action and an immediate action.

Hint: Only one of those can be taken when it's not your turn.

Gonzo flavor and tight mechanics are enough to earn my upvote, despite the use of blood and shock effect.
