Making Feats Easier

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey I'm fairly new to pathfinder although I have played other tabletop RPG's including pathfinder a few times before. I am currently GM for a campaign made up of entirely new players and I think you can see where this is going. They have a lot of trouble choosing feats (especially my fighter) and not like I have much experience to give them good advice or at least the knowledge effectively break it down for them. I've read a few good class building guides but I prefer if they decide for themselves how to build their characters. What I’m looking for is a way to narrow down the list like an app or program where you input things like ability scores, skill points, feats you already have, level, class, etc... This program takes this information and only shows feats you have met the prerequisites for. It should also let you narrow down feats in other ways as well. I have the skills to make this program myself but, I'm not sure if I have the time and why reinvent the wheel if it's already been made.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, not that I know of.

However, if you use the SRD it contains the vast majority of Feats, in a convenient table.

Generally, you have some sort of focus, so it's easier to find something useful to you.

EX: if you're focused on Two -Weapon Fighting, it's easy to at least find Feats with Two-Weapon Fighting as a prerequisite.

If nothing else, reading over everything a few times will give you a good idea of what's available up to now.

It's not a great list, and it's not particularly useful once you know what you're doing, but for a quick list it's handy. Creating NPC instructions on the PRD. Scroll down to feats. It'll help give you ideas, at least, and I think they hit all the major feats for the various styles.

If you use PCGen, you can set the feats selection to only show those you qualify for.

One of the largest failings of the hobby in my opinion is the lack of integrated teaching tools.

I think this one does actually mark out all the available feats.
it's a bit clunky to use for levelling (you basiclly have to make your whole character from scratch) but it might help ...

Linkylinky.

And in PCGen there's a handy list of "things to do" that need done in the lower left hand corner of the summary page.

I will second pcgen. I used it when me and my group were new to the game after awhile and itreally helps out. It shows what feats are available, how to do point buy, what spells they would have access to, traits, etc. Its a very nice tool that imho isnt very hard to learn. I think basically the hardest part was remembering and learning to equip ur gear to said character.

Sovereign Court

A lot of the guides don't tell you EXACTLY what to get - they just take a class and go about rating a lot of the feats that you might consider taking with said class. Finding a guide like that for each of your players' character classes sounds like just the thing.

I started using Hero Lab when I first picked up Pathfinder for just this very reason. It was very helpful.
