That's how these things usually go.

Good news for Rudy2, I guess!

That is unfortunate for me, I suppose. I bought the book this was in pretty much solely for the masterpiece, since not too much else of interest in it is PFS legal.

It appears that it is indeed the case (per the updated Additional Resources) that Pageant of the Peacock is no longer PFS legal, which is similarly unfortunate for me.

So... I've GM'd a few games for PFS, and recently had a Pageant of the Peacock using Bard character. I decided I won't do that again.

Now you won't have to.

I'm not going to do the disservice of pretending I'm not pleased on some level, if only for the headaches it will save in disagreement, but it is a shame that such an (eventually) constructive discussion essentially came to naught. I was even starting to warm up to the 1 check/use version, and Drake's "magical method acting".

Yep. Can't imagine why it would need to be banned otherwise.

Considering I had been looking at the high end brokenness of the ability, I didn't want to post it here when it could be used in society play... but now that it isn't allowed I wonder if I should post the theoretical build for 50+ bluff at level 10 to 20 of the 35 possible skills I had put together to see how bad it could get..

Having seen first hand a PFS bard (level 11), he was able to get all his social and knowledge skills in the 60+ range. Granted, he had items and feats to beef up his performance, but it made the point. I kinda feel bad for that player a little bit now since his bard is so close to retirement and he'll have to do some rebuilding on it.

Personally, I never used it as my bard just hit level 6 yesterday. It's a build I wasn't planning on using that for, but I'll miss having it as an option anyway. I really didn't think of it as being so OP that it could solo anything, just a fun little quirk.

To be honest, I'm a little relieved. I've started leveling a Bard up and I was dreading the moment I could take this masterpiece. I felt like on the one hand, any table I sat down at with a 6th level Bard or higher who didn't have this ability would be questioned or even ridiculed by fellow players and, ultimately, I'd have left off an option as a support player that would have been of immense use to my team. On the other hand, posts like the OP left me dreading debates and arguments with rules-conflicted GM's or spiteful players who were more concerned with their own moments to shine than the success of the group.

Now at least, I won't have to make that choice.

Hmmm seems to me that this is a social skill...using Bluff in place of knowledge skill? Not sure it matters that much but I would make the role play it...it feels like this is meant to be used a parties to impress people with the knowledge. I would rule that they can use it in social settings to impress people with the knowledge (be it fake knowledge) but it does not grant real knowledge just the appearance of real knowledge. At least that is the way it reads to me. Since it does not say you gain the skill it says you can use bluff in place of..so that means for every skill then want to use you can use the bluff rules not the rules of the skill they are replacing.

Seems rather harmless to me and really not that good

Hi, Slamy.

The author of the masterpiece has chimed in: it really is supposed to grant real knowledge. (That's what "Use Skill X in place of Skill Y" usually means.) You could nerf it the way you suggest in your home campaign, but then why would a player take it at all, since fooling people is what Bluff does normally?

In any case, we don't have to worry about its effects in PFS any more.
