"Best" 1v1 classes or strategies?

Advice

Hi all. Been looking into a character build and it got me thinking about the idea of who make the best 1 on 1 combatants. I know there are many variables and I'm sure someone will say "spellcasters every time" but I'm wanting to go deeper than that. There are a lot of ways to beat another opponent, you get bigger than he, make him weaker, controlling, etc. has anyone noticed one method working better than others? Or is perhaps bad touch tactics stronger but more risky for example.

I for one when looking into the idea fell in love with a cleric of Tsukiyo because of his bad touch possibilities with madness and darkness domain but that is just a matter of my taste not min and maxing the idea of a character that is BBEG killer. Welcome discussion on the matter.

Best for taking on a BBEG and PvP are not always the same. Massive debuffs indirectly wreck a BBEG. For PvP 1 on 1 I will say a wizard with a high initiative. Level also matters. If he can use Gate or at least the planar binding spells and his caster levels are higher than his class level he might be able to bring in something that can win the fight for him.

You raise a point I neglected to mention... Not looking for PvP beyond an occasional advanced PC quality character a GM may bring in as a "boss" of a long arc.

There are very strong no save spells that are pretty brutal, especially for a one off fight, such as waves of exhaustion

Gnome sorcerer. color spray with spell focus. You have a 18 DC spell that can one shot things.

High strength Human thug rogue with blade of mercy(trait allows non-lethal with a bladed weapon no penalty) Enforcer and Intimidating Prowess. You hit them, they run away.

Human Cleric neagtive alt channeling rulership/envy/alochol. With traits and feats a 30 foot burst dc18 that basically takes their turn.

Human dual blooded sorcerer orc/red dragon. Gifted adept burning hands trait, feats spell focus evo, spell spec burning hands 4d4+8 15 foot cone.

Barbarian High strength two handed fighter.

Wasn't it the human wizard-diviner who beat the beastmass most successfuly? :)

add spring attack and 1 dip in shadow dancer...

spring attack = move 10' = opponent is flat footed.
use blunt weapon and sap mastery line of feats. (dip 2 fighter for weapons and feats).
you go in, attack once and shadow away.
opponent is sicken\shaken\running\bleeding etc.
