So, over the Easter weekend, two of my brothers and I started splitting up some of my dad's stuff. There were certain things I asked for:
My father's old railroad jacks (previously belonging to his uncle, before that, who knows....) look kind of like this
My dad's old wood burning tool. I have at least one working tip and holder. The company still makes them, so I will try to contact them about potential replacement parts.
My dad's T-Box 400, which I don't think he ever actually used.
A couple of random tools.
An ice tongs - like the ones they used to deliver blocks of ice with back in the day. We had found them years ago, while fixing up a house my parents had bought in Bay St. Louis, MS.
And, my pride and joy, a duck decoy, hand made by my father's grandfather. I'm going to fix it up (it's head had been blown off years ago) and repaint it.
There will be more, as we go through the rest of it, but this was a good start. A grand way to help me remember my father and (hopefully) use him as an example to be as good of a father to my children as he was to me.

On Friday I went to a new (to me) brew supply store. He opened up several months after I moved here, which is why I hadn't been there before.
Anyway, so I go there just to pick up a new hydrometer, having broke my only one. Ended up buying two (one is a backup).
I also ended up buying the 4th edition of Charlie Papazian's The Complete Joy of Homebrewing. When I originally started brewing (2008), it was only at the third edition (put out in 2003). He put out the 4th edition some time in 2014.

Ugh. Feel like shit today. I think I may have caught what my baby girl had last week - hand foot and mouth disease. I've got some of the symptoms, but at least no visible rash or sores.
Instead of going into work this morning, I called my boss and told him I was going to at least be late. There's an urgent care nearby that opens up at 0900. I'll let them test me.
Thing is, with this, adults apparently have to be real careful. It has been known to put people in the hospital. Not sure if it gets that bad with kids. Baby girl didn't.

?!?!?! What the hell?
Be careful man. Please.

Ugh. Confirmed by doctor yesterday morning. Still, I wasn't feeling too bad, and she said I should still be able to go to work. As long as I didn't lick anyone or spit in their food/drink (which, of course, ruined most of my plans for the day). So I went to work.
Most of the day was fine, until around 4 pm, when my fever popped up and I started to get the shakes. But I toughed it out until 5 anyway, because that's how I roll. All manly and shit (or stupid/stubborn which can be the same thing).
When I got home, I popped some ibuprofen and slept for two hours. Then I woke up, ate some rice, rested and puddles around the house, and was back asleep by 10 pm.
Woke up around 5:30 am, got showered with the idea of going back to work, then realized that wasn't going to happen and went back to sleep until about 20 minutes ago.
That's how I know I'm well and truly sick - a seventeen hour timeframe in which I slept 14-1/2 hours. Stoopid sickness.

giving your boss a hanna-Barbara style SLLLLLLUUUUURRRRRRRPPPP! would be an awesome way to quit your job.

But, good Lord, did I have trouble getting to sleep last night. Spent about an 1-1/2 hours just laying there. When I finally did fall asleep, I kept waking up periodically until about 2 am.
That was when I decided to go get this old bed spread I keep on the sofa for when I'm watching TV (one of my wackier idiosyncrasies). I think the new sheets we have on the bed (linen) were giving me trouble. The texture feels weird and makes them noisy. Plus, I think the sheet and blanket are both too damn small.
So, I wrapped myself in my sofa sheet, and was out like a light for the rest of the night. Weird.

you're going to have to wash the new sheet with a lot of fabric softener until it is the right consistency for you.

One of my favorite beers, which I've only ever been able to get once, is Wrath of Pecant, by Dogfish Head. They smoke the grains over pecan wood. An excellent beer.
I picked up several bottles of that a few years back, when some buddies and I drove from Philly to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware to do the Dogfish Head tour (brewery is actually in Milton).
