Watching TV yesterday, and my baby girl was sitting on the floor, putting a puzzle together and singing. When I muted the TV for a commercial, I finally realized what she was singing....
....We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister.
Needless to say, I was very proud.
Saw that article about the lions eating the rhino poachers. So much beautiful karma.
Yea, I thought it was very awesome that the lions got some jerks.
Happy Friday to one and all, even the people I don't like.
There were fires, but they have been put out.
Cleaning out some files on my computer at home, I came across a folder for Unreal Tournament. This was the one from back in the late 90s.
When I first started working in Philly, some of the older guys would play Duke Nukem at lunch. Another new guy introduced us all to Unreal Tournament. So then we each installed it on our computers, and would have big battles during lunch. That lasted for a few years, until they changed the computer system and we couldn't have stuff like that loaded on.
Anyway, I got the files for the game from the dude who introduced it to us all, and have kept it ever since.
And, yeah, I played it last night.
My words of wisdom for today:
The more things change, the more you think it better to NOT go back and revisit them.
Sad to hear of Steve Ditko's passing. He was a legend.
So tonight I'll definitely have to watch Doctor Strange, and maybe Spider-Man: Homecoming.
First up for the day, however, is bringing the kidlets to their swimming lessons.
Sooooo…..HBO and Cinemax were free this weekend. I took advantage of that to record movies, some of which I had seen, some of which I had not. First up last night was a recorded Logan. It was pretty cool.
I also recorded Dunkirk, because I had been wanting to see it.
And It, because I also had never seen it, and I enjoyed the book. That's one I read when it first came out, back in '86. I was 14 at the time. Took me a week to work through the 1000+ pages.
More movies were recorded, many of which I have yet to watch.
One I did watch, finally, was the new Jumanji movie. That was very entertaining. Jack Black was (not surprisingly) awesome at playing a teenage girl trapped in Jack Black's body.
I also recorded the first of the Narnia movies, so the boy could watch it. He liked it, which makes me glad.
Then, last night, I ended up watching Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (which I find to be entertaining). Fell asleep somewhere during that movie, and the one which followed it. Finally woke up around 0100 and went to bed.
Now back at work, but it's a short day today. Gotta leave early for a dentist appointment.
And.....now I want to waste some time coming up with lyrics to "Monday! F*!# You, Monday!" done to the tune of Sunday, Bloody Sunday.
Huzzah! I has a new fake tooth!!!
Finally got around to watching It last night. Not bad. Could have been better. Bill Skarsgård was awesome as Pennywise. All the kids did good jobs as well.
And I'm feeling a bit nostalgic this morning. FB shared a memory from 7 years ago of me feeding the boy some kind of mush. He was about 5 months old at the time.
Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Finally got around to watching the second Kingsman movie last night. I enjoyed the first one more, but this was still plenty entertaining. Samuel L. Jackson was a far superior villain to Julianne Moore.
My daughter loves to give a raspberry when she's being fussed at these days. She always follows it up with a smile, or a laugh, or an "I love you", however.
So she's learning to use her cuteness as a weapon.
Stoopid electricity bill.
I heard the Billy Dee Williams is being brought back into Star Wars. I guess they need another original trilogy actor to kill off.
Also heard that Joaquin Phoenix is doing a Joker movie. And Jared Leto is in talks to do one?!? That's f+**ing stupid. Too many Joker movies.
The DCU desperately needs their own version of Kevin Feige. Yes, I know they have someone in such a position, but I'm talking about someone competent enough to manage such a property.
I should say, ".....to successfully manage such a property."
Sometimes, I really hate the job. It pays the bills, though. So that's that.
Next week it shall at least be a bit more.....lively. Representative of the client is coming down from Dallas. And these douchenozzles are way behind schedule.
The fabricators aren't the only douchenozzles on this project. The client company has plenty to spare.
In other news, I watched The Pelican Brief last night. It had been a few years since I'd last seen it, but it was just as entertaining as I remember. Great jobs by both Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.
My brother and I saw Ant-man and the Wasp last night. Without children in tow. So we were both able to relax and enjoy the movie.
Also, HAPPY F$!*ING FRIDAY!!!
Hopefully, the "...the 13th" part won't come back to bite me on the ass.
Looks like "....the 13th" did strike, but it was a delayed reaction.
Still, the weekend was not all bad. We took the kids to see Marvel Universe Live. Everyone enjoyed the show.
Part of the bad, however, was that my baby girl ate too much cotton candy. It was more sugar than she's used to, and it gave her a tummy ache, among other problems, that carried through Sunday.
And now, it's f*#@ing Monday. Again!
I'll be happy when it's Friday because then I'll be done dog sitting...
A representative of the client is supposed to be onsite today. I get the joy of informing them in person the fabricators haven't done dick since this past Friday.
I know what excuse they're going to use. They'll say they didn't have approval to move forward on correcting some of the clashes & busts they found last week.
Unfortunately for them, that's bullshit. The report I send out at the end of each day shows at least 5 items they had approval to move forward on as early as last Thursday. It's not my fault or the client's fault if the project manager and his direct underling didn't communicate that with their shop manager.
Otherwise, it's gonna be another hot ass day. Another day of heat index bringing the temp into the 100s. WOOT!
The only real bummer about the heat is that my electricity bill ends up being REALLY high. The AC system has to work near constant throughout most of the day (especially in the evening) to keep up.
The problem is that I think they undersized the system. It's a 2 story house, with big vaulting ceilings. There's only one AC unit, though. Really, it probably should have been two slightly smaller units. Or one big unit for upstairs and a smaller one for downstairs.
It's a problem I'm going to have to look into getting fixed. It'll cost though.
Another potential (long term) solution would be to plant a tree in the backyard, something that could eventually grow to shade that back part.
We do already have trees behind the house, but those are beyond the back fence, and don't provide shade from the sun until late in the evening.
Of course, I would have to consider the future when planting a tree. In theory, anything big enough to throw shade would also be big enough to allow my eventually teenage children an avenue for sneaking in and out.
Of course, then I'd get the pleasure of devising....security measures...to ensure they are unable to sneak out.
