I think I've spawned a (pisspoor) copycat.

Scarab Sages

I caught on the last big musical numbers of Grease the other night. And I felt compelled to watch them. I think it's the only musical I've ever watched from beginning to end.

Scarab Sages

My boy is really loving his new PS4. He's only got two games so far - Lego Marvel Superheroes and Sonic Forces. I plan to take him to either Walmart or Gamestop to spend some of his Christmas money on another game.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid cold weather. I need it warmer so I can spend time outside taking down my Christmas decorations. Normally, it wouldn't bother me, but since I'm still (kind of, sort of) recovering from weeks of illness, I don't want to take the risk of making myself worse again.

Scarab Sages

Luckily, we're supposed to get up into the low 50s today, the upper 50s tomorrow, and the 60s by Saturday.

Scarab Sages

And there was bacon. And it was good.

Scarab Sages

Since I've been feeling much better, last night I did something I hadn't done in nearly a month....chilled out watching TV and drinking a beer.

Scarab Sages

I've been on a Star Trek binge lately. I discovered that the H & I channel replays episodes from every series (even the animated one) during most nights of the week (except Saturday). In addition, this past week they've been playing nearly all the Star Trek movies (Nemesis being the notable exception) on one of the cable movie channels.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, all this Star Trek viewing made me recall just how awesome Star Trek is, overall. Probably the best sci-fi series ever to exist on the big and small screen.

hi Zombie,

how are you?
long time no see in the treeford

I wish you a godd, even a great, new year

"Prosit Neujahr" as we say over here

Scarab Sages

Howdy, Aeglos. I'm doing well. Christmas and New Years was craptastic, mostly owing to everyone either being sick, or recovering from sickness. It's all good now though.

Hope you all are doing well.

This past Saturday, one of the other leaders in the Cub Scout pack hosted a Pinewood Derby workshop in his garage. I was one of the "expert" consultants, despite not having worked on a Pinewood Derby Car in over 30 years.

It was fun. I brought a variety of tools with me. One of the big hits was my band saw. It was great for cutting down the blocks into a rough car shape. Then we'd take them over to the other big hit - a belt sander someone else brought.

I get to make my own car as well, being one of the pack leaders. I didn't work on it Saturday, instead focusing on the boy's car. Apparently, since the adult cars are going to be raced for fun, they are planning to relax the rules a bit. So now I have to decide if I want to completely obliterate the other adults by bringing the full weight of my engineering skills to bear.

Sad to see the Saints lose last night, but it was a really epic finish to the game. Congrats to the Vikings, and I actually hope they go all the way.

Scarab Sages

One thing I can be thankful for regarding the recent multi-day icy below freezing temps - it should provide a welcome decrease to the skeeter population later this year.

Scarab Sages

The thing I cannot be thankful for is how this same icy weather caused a leak in my garage.

Scarab Sages

Perfect example of winter in the South - earlier in the week, we were bundled up because temps were below freezing. Yesterday, I could have worn shorts.

Scarab Sages

Well, so far it looks like this weekend isn't going to suck ass. Hopefully, the boy will do well in his Pinewood Derby.

Scarab Sages

Pinewood Derby Day! The Jolly Roger shall ANNIHILATE the competition!!!

Scarab Sages

The Jolly Roger, of course, being my car. The boy will probably get his butt kicked.

Scarab Sages

An update regarding last week's Pinewood Derby - the boy actually did AWESOME! He got first place in his den races, and second place in the overall races. I was proud of him.

Scarab Sages

After the races, we went to a nearby neighborhood and distributed door hangers advertising a food drive done by the scouts. Today, we went and picked up the food. There wasn't much. My nephew's Boy Scout troop had the same problem. Must be a rough year for folks.

Oh well, some is better than none. And it will all be put to good use.

Scarab Sages

When we got home from today's event, my baby girl was watching Meet the Robinsons. It's a cute little movie, with a very positive message. I always enjoy it.

Scarab Sages

Congrats to the Philadelphia Eagles on their big win. That was a good game.

Scarab Sages

The only commercial I really liked was the one with the Giants doing Dirty Dancing. That was funny.

Most everything else was just kind of....meh. A few even had me scratching my head that someone paid that much money for it.

Scarab Sages

And, of course, there was rioting, looting, violence and destruction in Philly afterwards. I wasn't the least bit surprised to see that headline this morning.

I honestly liked the Ram truck one with the Vikings. THAT was great. :)

Scarab Sages

I think the reason I make a lousy Cub Scout Den Leader is because a big part of it is trying to get the other parents involved and "sharing the load" so to speak. That's.....not how I typically operate, since I'm of the firm belief that if you want something done (and done correctly), then do it yourself.

Scarab Sages

Not to mention, there are one or two of those little s&!@ bags I'd love to smack in the face....with a house.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmmm......left-over smoked pork ribs. Breakfast of champions.

Scarab Sages

Considering a career change. Now I just have to figure out what kind of change.

Scarab Sages

Maybe it's just my computer......

....But, damn! This website has become extraordinarily, s#@~tastically slow. And yet, for some reason, I'm not surprised.

Scarab Sages

I try not to have too many regrets. Days like today, however, I regret ever having heard the name "W.S. Nelson".

Scarab Sages

A dreary and cold Monday morning. Very appropriate.

Scarab Sages

Oddly enough, I find building bridges out of popsicle sticks both annoying and enjoyable.

Scarab Sages

Change is good. Even if it's a kind of, sort of change back to something old.

Scarab Sages

Also, the boy is seven now, as of this past Wednesday. On the down side, the one present he actually asked for was unavailable, due to being discontinued by the manufacturer. On the up side, the main present we did get him - a bicycle - thrilled him big time.

Scarab Sages

Just found out this morning - a buddy from back in my Navy days, lead contractor on my last project, passed away this past Friday. I hadn't seen him in awhile, but we'd have lunch on occasion when business brought him to Houston. He will be missed.

Scarab Sages

What a crappy way to start the day.

Scarab Sages

HOLY S*#~BALLS!!! I go away for a few days and everything changes.....

I'm freakin out, man!

You are freaking out....man.

Scarab Sages

I finally decided to shave my head down to the bare skin. It feels weird. Mostly, this is an experiment. I want to see which might be more feasible: shaving with the clippers once a week, but leaving fuzz, or going down to the bare skin every couple of weeks (depending on how fast it grows back).

Scarab Sages

I'll never be happy, however, that the two youngest of us (myself and my younger brother) have the least amount of hair of my brothers. Stoopid hair loss.

Scarab Sages

This is so weird.

Scarab Sages

Well, that grew back faster than expected.

Scarab Sages

Today: dry cleaners, Scout Store, comic book store (back issue sale!!!).

Tomorrow: Houston Rodeo.

Monday: Back to the new/old grind.

Scarab Sages

Just for s#%%s and giggles, I tried surfing the revamped site on my phone yesterday. It did not work out well.

Scarab Sages

The Frankenstein Chronicles has turned out to be a really f&+*ing cool show.

Scarab Sages

For the first time in nearly a year, I ordered something off Amazon. And, for the first time in nearly two years, that order was for books!!!

HUZZAH!!!

I still don't trust them after the debaucle of trying to get Path of Daggers from them back whenever that was supposed to have been released.
