Dragon disciple and spell mastery

Rules Questions

I was wondering does spell mastery count for the pre rec for a wizard?

If not then how would a wizard get into Dragon disciple?

You can't, I'm afraid. Spell Mastery let's you prepare spells without looking at your book(i.e. without preperation). Dragon Disciples need to cast without a book.

And the DD isn't really intended for wizards. I don't think you'll be able to manage it short of some mythic shenanigans.

No it wouldn't, because Spell Mastery only allows a Wizard to prepare the spells without a spellbook. He still has to prepare spells for the day, just some of them don't need the spellbook to prepare.

A wizard would not be able to go into Dragon Disciple. He would need a level of a different class (Bard, Sorcerer, etc.) to be able to take the Dragon Disciple prestige class.

Scarab Sages

Dip a level in bard or sorc

Your Arcane Bond lets you cast a spell without preparation.

whoa didn't even think of that? would that qualify?

It's been asked before and generally speaking it doesn't qualify.
but ask ya gm.

mos will take a dip in crossblooded for bonuses. and then let the dragon disciple level up wizard instead

Spell-like abilities that duplicate 1st level spells make you qualify, for example Aasimar with Heavenly Radiance feat or Half Elf with drow magic.

Maybe Preferred Spell on a level 1 feat like Magic Missile could work too

While I know, flavor-wise, it isn't intended for Wizards, it does boost Int rather than Cha. This is true in 3.5 as well...

While a wizard can't normally qualify for dragon disciple without at least one level of bard, summoner, or sorcerer, they can choose to advance their wizard spellcasting once they qualify ("If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a dragon disciple, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day."); they don't have to advance the spontaneous casting class. Bard tends to fit better (Bardic Knowledge) with wizard than summoner or sorcerer (although sorcerer can give a slight boost to the bloodline abilities). In fact, a fighter 1/bard 1/wizard (transmuter, perhaps) 3/dragon disciple 4/eldritch knight X with Magical Knack (Wizard) can do fairly well as a self-buffing combatant.
