I am going to wait on orders until the printer has a delivery date for me. Be patient!
Soooo, it's tuesday. Any news? ;)
Its 7 am here! Hopefully I get the printer quotes today. I'll post as soon as I do:)
I've also seen some of the interior artwork, and it is pretty cool. I especially like the piece with the magical hookah, since there are several varieties of magical hookahs in the book.
Yay for magical hookahs! Hopefully some of them not priced too high, so they are usable at lower levels.
And mandatory question: Any news? :D

And for real hookahs! Almost warm enough to stare firing up my backyard hookah. Not too bad on the pricing. The lowest single person model starts at 2K gp and the highest 4 person model tops out around 24K gp. Most are closer to the lower end of the scale.
There's also multiple varieties of flying carpets, but those are much more expensive. Other than the carpets, most of the magic items are relatively inexpensive, <10K gp.
Thats nice to hear, because I think it's kind of sad that so many cool items are priced so high.
Come one, just release it already! ;)
I agree. I try to keep the magic items reasonably priced, as I can't imagine too many GMs handing out 100K go items on even a rare basis.
As it is now tuesday again: Any update about the release? ;)
Dunes of Desolation is at the printer, page proofs have been approved. I'm not sure if the book has gone into full production yet or not, though.
What was the final page count?
I got the pdf version this afternoon and loved what I saw. Chuck and Skeeter did a great job putting the art and layout together. An awesome job!
Sooo, tomorrow I´ll be able to buy it? :D
Dela wrote: Sooo, tomorrow I´ll be able to buy it? :D I don't think so. I believe that the print book and pdf are going to be released to the public simultaneously. Bill or Skeeter is going to have to weigh in on that issue.
It will pre-release on the Barakus survey. It will go on normal sale in July.
ps--I never sell books anymore until I get my grubby paws on them...Mama frog gets mad when the orders stack up and we cannot mail them.
Kickstarters have a separate interface that works well for pre-orders though.
July? Oh come on, makes me a very sad panda :/
Just because I´m curious: What takes so long if the pdf is already done and it is already at the printer?
And why sell the pdf not before the hardcover?
Dela they used to do preorders, but it sounds like this was becoming an issue so he had to discontinue it. We can wait a couple of months. Not like kickstarters are immediate either. July will work better for my budget anyway:)
Just got the email update for the Barakus kickstarter. We'll be able to get the PDF ahead of time if we add it on to the pledge, and can have the book ship out with the Barakus fulfillment.
Correct--if we presell through the Kickstarter survey it does not mess up Mama's shipping software.
I´m not really talking about preorders, I mean why not sell the pdf before the print version? Economical reasons?
Can someone tell me what is meant by Barakus kickstarter? If there is a way I could get it earlier (and not paying a fortune ;D) I´d like to know.
@Dela,
Here is the Lost City of Barakus Kickstarter.

Chapter Nine: Faiths of the Desert
So is this an exploration of an Egyptian style mythos? Mesopotamian? pre-Islamic Arabian? Islamic? A new fantasy desert pantheon? Something else?
How big is this section?
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding site to gather funds for projects. It's been used by RPG publishers to gather funds (and gauge demand) for larger or riskier works. Here is the link for this one:
Barakus
Dela--the book won't be printed in time--the pre-order is to sell pdfs to folks who want it early and save shipping for folks (ships w/ Barakus)
I'll be in on this one. FGG take on this should be excellent based on what little I've read so far.

How big is this section? We've got Egyptian and Mesopotamian/pre-Islamic covered in other FGG/NG titles. I'd call this one closest to Islamic in feel. It w3ill of course fit in with the other desert pantheons in our Lost Lands setting.
I don't know the page count off hand, but it's a good-sized section. It also summarizes the Egyptian and Mesopotamian pantheons at the end as well.

I don't know the page count off hand, but it's a good-sized section. It also summarizes the Egyptian and Mesopotamian pantheons at the end as well. The first section discusses a monotheistic religion with four churches and multiple sects. The second part of the chapter discusses the more traditional pantheon.
Read the whole final last night--this book is very good
Out of curiosity, why did you choose to do the DoD add-on to the Barakus KS separate from the pledging for the KS? Does that have to with accounting & whatnot? I can understand not wanting sales of DoD being used to pump up stretch goals of Barakus, but wouldn't it all balance itself out in the end?
1 person marked this as a favorite.

As I understand it anything pledged during the Kickstarter Amazon and Kickstarter itself get a portion of the funds. Now I could be wrong, so I hope someone from FGG comes along and answers your question with the truth.
It has been discussed many times on the kickstarter and on these boards. Add ons for anything other than the maps and herolab files will be done after the KS in the pledge manager in order to cut Amazon and KS out of the add ons funds. The goal of the kickstarter is to achieve a broader fan base through release and update of material already prepared, not run up a larger pledge total per backer with extras. The stretch goal at 45K will be the one that makes the add ons for game material not included in the kickstarter as part of the pledge manager. That is the goal that allows for discounts on those add ons not included as part of the kickstarter, such as the Barackus maps and herolab files. I am paraphrasing, but that is it in a nutshell...
@ Thedmstrikes - Thank you for the nutshell version :) sometimes it gets tricky trying to keep track of everything, with multiple KS's running at the same time, updates, comments, etc. etc.
Correct--if we add it to the kickstarter-Amazon takes 8%
Bill Webb wrote: Correct--if we add it to the kickstarter-Amazon takes 8% I like to add things in the survey, after the KS has ended. Helps reduce the "sticker shock" of my high pledges to the non-gamers in the family. I also like to get us to those stretch goals as well. So, to be clear, what cant I add after the end? Players Guide, Maps, map PDF's, Hero Lab?
So, just to be sure I got it right:
After the kickstarter has ended, you will add it as an optional addon? This way I would get the PDF earlier? And I can use the addon on any pledge?
Yes. Errata is if you do not pledge for a physical barakus book, but want hardcover dunes, we have to add shipping.
No extra shipping for dunes if you have a dead tree Barakus. Only the humongus books will have added shipping charges, and they will be reduced since the Barakus book already factored in some of it.
Not going to be quite as cheap as originally thought with all the add-ons but worth it. It's not like I don't want them anyway!
Hopefully the follow up book is not too far behind. It won't be ready to be included as an add on for this kickstarter, but probably the next.
Archetypes is the next to last chapter on that one.
Can't wait to see the new one, Tom!
I know Necromancer Games produced Gary Gygax's Necropolis. Is Khemit part of the lost lands? Also if it is does Dunes of Desolation have any association with that part of the world?
@ lastgrasp
Khemit is part of the Lost Lands. I can't answer the second question, though.
lastgrasp, they are neighboring states, but Dunes does not directly involve Khemit.
Greg A. Vaughan wrote: Can't wait to see the new one, Tom! Thanks Greg. That means a lot coming from you. I'm trying to figure out a way to perhaps make to NTRPG this year. Just got walloped with some huge bills though, new furnace, big vet bill and plane tickets to GenCon, but I'd love to hang out with the whole Frog crew for a weekend.
Much easier to get the hotel room for NTRPG Con.
Chuck Wright wrote: Much easier to get the hotel room for NTRPG Con. Yeah, I checked out the prices, but I have no idea where some of these hotels are. A package deal of air ticket and hotel seems to be the best way to go. What other hotels are near the convention site? The Marriot Airport South isn't part of any package deals.
I really have no idea... I KirstaBill book the rooms for us.
