his son fbooked that Fred Phelps is on the "edge of death."

Somebody totally needs to show up at the funeral with signs.....

Scarab Sages

I saw this earlier. I'll be honest - it does not make me sad in any way.

And, yes, protests at his funeral would be karmic justice.

A pity.

I pray the almighty shows him just a glimpse of the hurt and anguish he's caused when his time comes, and that he has to live with it until the end of days.

Someone else suggested a 1000+ drag queen protest at his funeral all carrying signs like "God Loves Even You, Fred"

I'm not normally a follower of Twitter, but this tweet warmed even my cold cynical heart.

Heathy's article also mentions Phelps Sr. was ex-communicated from the WBC last year.

Curious whether or not this will end their crusades. I imagine someone else will pick up the mantle.

I doubt it. His daughter seems pretty fervent in her hate and they make serious money in protest-related lawsuits.

That is the single most unbelievably nonsensical method of monetary acquisition I have EVER heard in my whole life.

Well, darn. *sarcasm*

I wonder how well I could pull off the Carmen Miranda look.

I'd try for the Noxema(sp?) Jones look.

I try hard not to take pleasure that such a vile, cruel and cynical human being, a person who used his training as a lawyer to abuse the law and ruin the last moments of so many families with there loved ones, is dying and will almost certainly have his own funeral ruined in return. I'd like to be a bigger man and regret the passing of someone even like him.

But I'm not. So I'm just going to smile a little. And maybe, just maybe, hope his family learn something from the circus that his funeral will become.

For a minute I thought this was about the Olympic swimmer, and was wondering what hate group he'd aligned himself with.

must.. make.. will.. saves...

When I saw the topic I was expecting this thread to be someone talking about having bought a high power rifle... for some reason...

May he be reborn as a combination of the very people he despised.

Gonna be the underdog and not feel happy with this guy's death. I argued before in my life against a death penalty for much worse criminals, and I find it wrong to count on death to solve our problems. Messed up as he is, he has a family and friends. I don't wish anyone the pain of losing a friend or relative.

Some people are despicable enough that the best response to their deaths is merely to note it, and go about our lives.

**Contemplating dancing lessons so I can boogie oogie oogie on his grave*

It is sad that his life is so shallow and so filled with hate. I hope that he realizes that his life is more imprtant that that kind of shallow and hate. Sadly, I doubt it.

And yes, there will ALWAYS be someone to pick up the mantle of hatred and bigotry.

Someone else pointed out to me that true karmic justice might be if everyone completely ignored the inevitable funeral.

They will not. There will be a fracas to remember. And, perhaps, with him dead, income from incidents there is precisely what they are hoping for?

He's 84. This tends to happen at that point.

On the other hand, my understanding is that most of the cult consists of extended family and close associates, and I have seen many families splinter apart due to infighting over inheritance. So it wouldn't surprise me if WBC completely fell apart within a year or so of his death.

Not exactly a totally reliable witness given his history.

Yeah. I thought about naming the thread

"According to Fred Phelps' flaky son, he might be on his deathbed, but who knows for sure; he could be full of crap?"
but that was kinda long, and I figured the "May" kinda took care of all that.

The Exchange

Im just disapointed that nature will get him before one of his victims do

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Ok after doing some research on the "Fred Phelps" is dying story I found a direct quote from the source finally. Fred Phelps estranged son Nate Phelps. The results seem to be this. Nate knows about Freds condition from a nephew who has left the church quite recently. As to the rumors that Fred Phelps is no longer associated with the WBC it seems to be true. As of last August WBC moved to a leadership council of 8 elders anticipating Rev. Phelps poor condition. The result was clashes between these 8 elders and Rev Phelps that lead to his excommunication. Rev. Phelps is apparently in a hospice in Topeka Kansas currently.
