Any Unique or Interesting Synthesist Summoner Builds?

Advice

I'm building up a couple backup characters in case my current character ever dies. So, I was thinking about a synth summoner since my DM allows them and our party could probably use another melee character. I'm doing 20 point buy, for level 5 and only paizo books.

That being said, I'm trying to think of some interesting yet still useful builds for a synth with the above specs. That'd be 9 evolution points (if using half-elf) 10 if I use the feet to grab an extra evolution point.

What I have so far, I sort of like, but it feels like the normal.

Like This (assuming I use the feat for extra evolution point):
Quadruped with:
Extra Limbs (arms) = 2 points.
Flight (wings) = 2 points.
Pounce = 1 point
Claws= 1 point
Slam (on extra limbs) = 1
Improved Damage (claws) = 1 point
Gills = 1 point
Swim = 1 point

So basically what I would have is all 4 of my attacks (primary) and the ability to go into the air and water without much trouble (save for my eidolon going away).

Anyone have any suggestions on some unique builds that would be effective, yet flavorful and fun? A tracker perhaps with scent? Go serpentine and grapple / constrict? I've seen the caterpillar build (numerous attacks) but it doesn't seem to fit 5th level build for me.

I like to look for SciFi pictures and see what I can come up with. Here's a fun one.

It's basically a squid-like creature that builds robot bodies to get around. I statted this one up awhile ago. I would have to dig around for the stats but I can if you want.

Are you simply refering to cool concepts?
or overlocked doom?

For the cool stuff, I love modeling ideas on varous Digimon since there are a ton of cool ideas there (renamon being a favored of mine)

Cool concepts that can be effective I guess. While I can and may play the same ole' pounce full attack build, I'm just interested in seeing if anyone had any ideas on cool, unique, yet effective builds for a synth summoner / eidolon.

I'm playing Kingmaker if it helps. However, I think if I were playing skull and shackles, I'd definitely make an aquatic grappler / grabber. Since it's kingmaker though, not many options to make use of water based things.

Perhaps a grab / raker / constrictor with the serpentine build could be fun. Or... Hmm... I wonder if I could do a grab / grapple build with flight, where I grab enemies and drop them from the sky.

I am a big fan of the "Erza Scarlet" concept from the show "Fairy Tale." Instead of a SciFi beast, think of it more as suit of armor that morphs to fit the situation. Use basic "buff" evolutions to represent the strength of the armor and then use the evolution spells for things like Skilled, Scent, Resistance, Fly, to change your suit into whatever is needed.

It isn't as min/maxed as it could be, but you are more unassuming from a play standpoint. Nothing to see here but just another armored fighter. The great part is that the evolutions can give you a lot of utility if you're not so focused on melee crushing. From an imagery standpoint, there something entertaining to me about needing to be slightly more diplomatic in a situation and your armor morphing into something more fashionable and fancy in order to help with your diplomacy check. Or, you need to swim someplace and your armor changes into something resembling a speedo and some water wings.

So you do not want the staple claw-pouncer build, right?

I combination I like is to start as a biped eidolon, take a bite attack, augment is as much as you can, and then use reach in combination with Combat Reflexes for battlefield control and damaging AoOs.

A sample build at 5th lvl:

Half-Elf

STR 7
DEX 8
CON 12
INT 12
WIS 14
CHA 21 (18+2+1)

Feats:

1 Arcane Strick
3 Resilient Eidolon

Evolutions:
Bite (1p)
Reach (Bite) (1p)
Improved Natural Armor (1p)
Ability Increase (Strength) (2p)
Trip (Bite) (2p)
Flight (2p)

I don't have the exact buid, but my friend did a massive grapple one. Just tenticles of doom.
I built ess op versoin of his, 4 tenticles, tons of str, waks around in a cloak. I'll try about stating somtehing later.

Definitely an interesting build XMorsX. Tripping things left and right could be fun for sure.

Zwordsman, I'd definitely be interested in seeing it if or when you get the chance.

I think tonight when some free time really presents itself, I may attempt a winged, serpentine grappler / constrictor. Grab an enemy, fly up into the sky and start crushing them. If they escape the grapple, then they get to fall to the ground (unless they can fly).

Also, I'm not against the pounce-attack route, I'm just interested in seeing if I can either make that more interesting since it could get repetitive quick, or find another type of build altogether. Such as the one that has been presented.

Thanks for the ideas thus far!

I really dislike the synthesis. When in a party, it invalidates half the classes in the game and severely limits what other party members can play and still feel useful.

The synthesis is not another melee party member. It's the only one. You will end up overshadowing any other class that dare thought they could be equal in melee and you will have no weaknesses and cranked 6 level spellcasting as a further slap in the face.

I do not want to disappoint you, but a medium-sized serpentine constrictor is not something impressive, it has neitehr the size not the strenght for the job.

If you do want to dabble with grappling and such, you can have a fairly good biped eidolon grappling and shallow wholing the enemy, which certainly feel satisfing. Again it will probably come online after you take the large evolution.

So waiting till level 8 would be preferable for a grappler build then (9th if I want to go with swallow whole)? I guess I could put that style of build on the back-burner, but I'd still like to see Zwordsman's tentacle build whenever they can put it up. Trip builds seem to need a larger eidolon as well, since the eidolon trip ability states it can only use the trip ability on creatures as large as the eidolon or smaller. And since I'm playing in Kingmaker as mentioned above, I will be and already have run into plenty of things of the large size to combat. Some of which can't be grappled, others that can't be tripped.

Perhaps I just need to really sift through the eidolon page some more to get inspiration.

Trying to find it. HOpefully I didn't lose it..
basic idea: either snake or human (i prefered humanoid), then a couple tenticles, large, grab and constrict. the rest go into str. then enlarge person if something is your size (so you can grapple)

Another idea I never got around to but looked interestsing was, Quadraped body, load up on tenticles then get Grab evolution on tenticles (tons of + to grapple)and later the constrict for it. You do a fair bit of damage, and grapple them. With this you can still pounce, do damage, attempt grapples, those you grapple you do damage again. this requires them to be the right size though. so that can give problems

I never got high enough but i was thinking about energy attack to add 1d6 to it all.

If your campaign has a theme, maybe tie your eidolon's theme to that.

Wrath of the Righteous - Celestial look
Skulls & Shackles - Aquatic (Merfolk, Sahuagin, Sharktopus, etc.)
Serpent's Skull - Monkey?
Carrion Crown - Undead look
etc.

Well, I'm playing in Kingmaker, so I suppose something either plant based, or fey based or beast based would work for theme.

If going beast, I could see taking scent to track and sort of warn our party if something is near. Perhaps give him the skilled evolution in stealth for sneaking ahead scout style. Maybe even shadow blend for the concealment and theme of a sort of shadow beast. Quad would fit the beast form, but I'd need extra limbs (arms) if I wanted to cast while in eidolon form, so it will probably look like a centaur.

Plant, I could go bipedal, extra limbs (arms), claws with extreme reach. Or I could go serpentine and constrict route representing a giant vine monster squeezing life out of people.

Perhaps an insect form, basing it on a sort of creepy scorpion getting the tail(s) and sting evolution with poison, maybe pincers and a climb speed. The poisons seem week for the sting though. So I'm not sure about this. Although I do like the idea of being a giant weird scorpion thing.

I guess despite how much I like the idea of grapplers I might need to stay away from them until level 8, unless I can consistently cast enlarge person.

Perhaps it's just best to build a lv. 5 master summoner for 5th and build up a lv. 8 if we make it / go that far.
