Interestingly, that FAQ strongly implies the other one, because there is no way to get the ability to cast 3rd-level spells, but not 2nd-level spells, unless SLAs count as "ability to cast X-level spells".

Yup. I remember the thread from which that faq originated. Anyway, I still have doubt that a sla could satisfy the dragon disciple requirement, because of my previous post: I'm not sure if it counts as "ability to cast without preparation ". Neither this or the other faq seems to clear that point.

Even if SLAs count as casting spell, it's still a 3rd level spell, not 1st. So it shouldn't work.
That is an excellent RAW point.

I'm aware of that, indeed I have specified Aasimar with a feat that allows her to cast a different spell as SLA that is of level 1

The question is simple: do you prepare SLAs in the morning?

To me it seems not the case, so you can qualify for DD with a SLA

I'm not attempting to do that to entry the PrC at a lower level, but in order to do something like Wizard 10/DD 10 or Magus 10/DD 10, that have great stat synergy and in the case of the Wizard can still reach spell level 9

Again, taking the Preferred Spell feat at 5th level permits this.

It strikes me as quite clear. If you cast the spell as often as you can, then rest for a day, do you have empty slots which you must prepare spells for to use, or do you just cast spells? If the latter, you are casting without preparation.

Only if the pre-requisite calls out the name of a spell explicitly. For instance, the Dimensional Agility feat (Ultimate Combat) has "ability to use the abundant step class feature or cast dimension door" as a prerequisite; a barghest has dimension door as a spell-like ability, so the barghest meets the "able to cast dimension door prerequisite for that feat. However, the barghest's dimension door would not meet requirements such as "Ability to cast 4th level spells" or "Ability to cast arcane spells".

Ruling clearly states that SLA doesn't count as the ability to cast a type of spell (divine or arcane) or count as a specific lv of spell. Case closed. No early entry.

Did you pay ANY attention to when that thread was posted? Or when that ruling changed? Old threads are old. Watch out... thread necromancy may incite the wrath of Pharasma.
