[Infinity Archmage] Testing Character Creation

Recruitment

This is not recruitment for a game. Rather, it's recruitment for exploration of the character generation of the system and setting I'm working on. The working title of the system is Infinity, and the setting is Archmage.

It's a low-power but magic-common setting. Almost anyone can dabble in magic with a little investment.

So, if you'd like to help me with development, check out the links below and try making a character! I'm not running a game just yet, but when development reaches an appropriate stage, I may do so.

Infinity Archmage Core Rules

The Original Archmage Thread

Example Character Build (note, rules for number of spells known was later changed)

Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me test this! :)

I'll answer any questions.

I'd be happy to create a character for you to test out your rules. I'll have a look over it and post the finished character shortly!

I may take a shot at this, Umbral Reaver.

Myself also. I have some time now, I'll get on it right away.

I would also like to point out that in the talents section, the 1st level talent "Bruiser" lists Proficiency: Unarmed as a prereq. I assume the intent was Proficiency: Brawling? Only because I cannot see Proficiency: Unarmed in the list.

Alain:

Alain, Warrior of the Past

Alain is a Human warrior who has lost all family to a civil war. As the
lone survivor, he has dedicated his life to continuing his
family's Honor for as long as he can. He wishes to prove that
he can best any foe, either focusing on disabling his
opponents with wit and cunning or with sheer force. His social
skills aren't the greatest, but he is a hardy warrior, and a
loyal ally when he feels the cause is right.

Yes, that is right. There will be various points where I'll need to edit for consistency.

Your character looks well-formed. I haven't audited it for correct XP and such, but that's not important now. It looks like you have understood the rules for character creation well. I am glad that it's possible to make a full character from an initial concept.

Feedback is appreciated! Did you find anything overly limiting about chargen? Was anything seeming to be too costly or too cheap? That said, it may not be clear what appropriate costs for abilities will be until I've run some test games.

As for enemies, the current plan is to work out the initial game as significantly humanoid-heavy. You can find some animal stats in the equipment section.

Additional note: Equipment has not been fully statted or priced, and as with everything else, is subject to change. If you wish to equip a character, anything on the lists is free for now.

The only feedback I could possibly give is that the human -1 talent cost seems a little too useful. At level 1 it only amounts to 1 or 2 extra talents, but in the longer term it could end up becoming 15, 20 ish. I recommend making it +1 free talent when you level up and at character creation. At least then you won't get people spending all their points on talents and nothing on attributes.

In addition, the versatile quality of longswords (among others) is the only reason I slapped the two handed proficiency on. Perhaps a bit of clarification on that front, viz. can you use a longsword 2 handed with only the one handed proficiency?

Apart from that, it looks like the only real way to work out balance issues is as you say - playtesting. Alert me to any future pbp games, let me know :)

p.s. - I will continue to look over the rules, build some more characters. If i find anything else i can constructively mention, you'll be the first to know.

It seems that the dropbox file is down as soon as I can get to it I will give it a shot.

Weird. It's working for me.

That was actually something of a placeholder! I may replace it later with something more appropriate. For now, I think it's okay. Humans don't get stats as high as the other races, but can pick up a wider variety of abilities.

I'm likely to rework proficiencies in the future. For now, you need two-handed proficiency to use it as a two-handed weapon.

Thanks. I'll continue updating... sporadically. Feedback helps significantly!

Dot!

By the dark powers of necro-posting, I bid thee to ARISE AND SMITE MY ENEMIES!

It is a playtest/Concept Thread. It can never be necro'd only awoke from a deep slumber. Kinda like a Vampire. (Dark Shadows Anyone?)
