Heavy metal bard, ready to rock?

Advice

Hey all, i will soon join a new campaing and i want to bring this concept that i had in mind, the heavy metal bard, something like Eddie Riggs from the game Brutal Legend
The game will start at lv 3, 20 pb 2 traits, i will be allowed to have a Guitar axe that will let me to attack and play music at the same time, provided that i have competence with axe.

i want to go full bard, with thundercaller archetype, i know that is subpar, but it feels right my concept.

for race i was thinking human or half orc, half orc with weapon familiarty is very appealing.

i need help for traits and feats, arcane strike and lingering performace seems a must, but i dont know what to take next

for stat that is the first draft

str 16 +2 racial
cos 14
dex 12
int 10
wis 8
car 14

Go half orc. Familiarity with weapons is really good on a 3.4 bab class that doesn't usually get the good weapons.

traits: Tusked For a bite attack. You won't always full attack, but when you do its nice to have.

Especially since you gave up bardic performance, consider Pagent of the peacock It turns your dance or act skill into the knowledge skills. ALL of them.

If you're fighting in the negatives a lot, for the low low price of your intimidate bonus, you can get endurance as a bonus feat and walk into diehard without quite so much feat tax. If you're going that route, you can pick up sacred tattoo and drop orc ferocity ( because die hard overlaps it) and then snag the Fates favored trait , giving you another +1 to all of your saves.

For spells be sure to pick up Liberating command andSaving finale which are amazing because they're immediate actions and won't take up your valuable smashy time.

Improved initiative is always a good thing on a buffer. The more party members you beat the more use your bonuses.

A Sound Striker / Dirge bard is probably more thematic, striking with sound and having this necro-theme. But a thundercaller is fine too.

If you go with thundercaller, you really want to be an aasimar and put their alternative favored class bonus to Thunder Call. This way you can have a powerful blast at every lvl. Angel-Blooded or Azata-Blooded, depending how important is melee battle for you. Going ranged is better, but you know what you want best.

Lingering performance is not needed if you are going to use mostly thunder call, as it does not affect it. Take it at 9th lvl because at 10th lvl you will be able to maintain two bardic performances simultaneously thanks to the Virtuoso Performance spell.

Scarab Sages

Don't forget the use of spells such as obscuring mist, pyrotechnics and possibly even summon instrument. Use magic device is an amazing skill for a bard to have for that kind of over the top performance.

thanks for all the answers, also a little update, starting level 4 and 6000 gold to make astarting equipment.

@BigNorseWolf: i agree with most of everithing you posted, lets go with half orc, toughness extra feat and maybe sacred tatoo (one of the KISS tatoo obviusly)

@xMorsx: while i can see some theme with sound striker i cant deny that i like thundercaller better (stunning enemies and call thunders with the power of my solos) the dirge bard isnt really something i was building

As I'm building the same concept (though not neccessarily as a thundercaller), all I can add is that, whatever you name turns out to be, it should have at least one (preferably more) umlauts that do nothing to change the pronunciation.

And don't knock dirge bard!

Channeling your inner Quiet Riot, complete this line....
"Bang your head..."

Then say dirge bard isn't appropriate! =)

Concussive spell! - maybe use magical lineage trait with sound burst, shout, or discordant blast?

Discordant Voice seems mandatory at higher levels (level 11?)

The Omen trait is good - intimidate as a swift once per day.

If you managed to have a bunch of feats kicking around (or maybe take a few levels of fighter), here would be a fun 4 feat chain (which would also call for intimidate):
Weapon Focus (level 3?)
Dazzling Display (level 5?)
Savage Display (level 7?)
Performing Combatant (level 9?)

Another possibly feat chain is power attack (level 3?), furious focus (level 5?), and then maybe vital strike (level 9?). You would only get one attack a round, but with a greataxe you could use it to move and then do 2d12+1.5*Str+Power Attack without any to-hit penalty. Not too shabby, especially when you stack it with inspire courage You could add in Cornugan Smash too, it is very fun and appropriate (maybe level 7). ("Rocking for the devil!")

You could add in a few performances for fun:
Melody of Frightful Death
A requiem, perhaps?
Did someone say triple time?

Fun spells:
Confusion ("Mosh pit!")
Remove Fear
Allegro
Cacophanous Call
Thunderous drums ("Backup!")

I don't know anything about building bards, as I've only built one, but I absolutely love the idea of a guy playing an guitar-axe in the background, helping his buddies fight, and not being afraid to smash his guitar-axe into someones' face when he needs to.

it's awesome.

Why not a Rock n' Roll Clown?

Not sure if you have seen this or not, but you should see if your DM will allow...

THE HEAVY METAL BARD ARCHETYPE!

They need stats for an Axe Guitar.

Also, a thunderstone powered electric guitar.

this is already becoming one of my preferite character ever and i havent played him yet!

@Tangaroa: a lot of good ideas, i like more the vital strike chain since is more feat light and for intimidate i prefer the spell blistering invective

@DajellyMan: very funny Archetype :D

I like the power attack-furius focus-vital strike, it will give me a good single attack, and since i'm a 3/4 bab melee my iterative will never be that good, spendings feat for combat is very good since the bard class give me so many option to use in and outside combat

Lets put down the next draft

Bard lv 4
thundercaller archetype
Race: Half Orc (toughness and sacred (KISS) tatto alternative racial trait)
Feat:
Arcane strike
Power Attack

Stat

str 15 + 1 lv + 2 racial
cos 14
dex 14
int 10
wis 8
car 14

since of my low cha i will not go for spell that allow saves.
lv 1 spell know: 4
liberating command
saving finale
silent image
??
lv spell know: 2
blistering invective
??

still to do:
traits, spells and equipments

What examples of magic weapons or non-magical weapons, that are also instruments, are available in Pathfinder?

Bump

thanks for have bumped my thread

I'm doing the last decision, i think i will go for reactionary and fate favored traits, and for the last spell i was thinking about vanish for lv 1 and heroism or mirror image for the lv2, what do you think?

I'm going to reiterate an earlier suggestion.

The Aasimar alternate FCB for bards seems like a major boon to Thundercallers. You'd be doing 3d8 damage with Thundercall at level 5, 5d8 at level 8. That's a pretty decent jump in damage.

Possible inspiration for your character. Everytime I think of "Thundercaller" I think of that song.

gotta post you finished copy out :P so i can bask in it :P I love the idea so much i might have to do it for when my dude eventual death at the hands of the slumbering tsar :P

The Crowbar!! It can be used as an improvised weapon, pry open doors and functions as a triangle (using a little rope and a minute hammer about 3 inches). The perfect instrument for a halforc bard right????

Ka-Ka-Ka-YEA! But I don't think Pesh would make for a good substitute.

Don't worry, officially, cocaine exists in Golarion.

Your link doesn't actually work, but I did a forum search and found it.

So then, I suppose that's covered...
