Group 1 happen to come across that crewmen and the spider that dragged em down? Was thinking of sending a IC video request for the info, but currently in combat.

Bladud |

Not yet. apparently we've lost its trail. I was pretty intentional about tracking it using mundane and scent-based means, but never got anything.
DM, did I misunderstand? Or has the trail gone cold this quickly?

DM Doomed Hero |

For you guys, yes. Your best guess is that the spider went the other way (down the crack). That means it's in group 2's territory.
That being said, it's a safe bet that this entire structure is interconnected, so if you keep looking you may find another way into the spider's lair.

Bladud |

Ah. Then I guess that's on me for not making double-sure that Bladud was on that trail. That was my intent, but (once again) I guess i must have gotten my wires crossed on where the spider actually went.
No biggie at this point.

DM Doomed Hero |

I thought that I laid the clues pretty well. The webs ended, and there was a Scorpion nearby which are natural enemies to spiders. It may occasionally come this way, but this area is not it's territory.

Dorian Maule |

So is the creature grappling, or is it just carrying Lyla? And is it encumbered if doing so?
Also, does it have earthglide or just burrow? Because burrow leaves upturned earth, while earthglide leaves the earth as was. So if it is back, it should be strikable from the remains of the hole it left before, right?

DM Doomed Hero |

That is correct. It did burrow, which leaves an unstable hole. Anyone who wanted to follow it could do that by crawling in at the space Lyla was in.
It is not grappling Lyla because she is unconcious. It's just carrying her body. She does not weigh enough to encumber it. (As a large creature with 6 legs it has a ludicrous carry capacity)

I will be unable to post reliably until Monday. I'm going to try to get updates up for both games tonight, but my posting rate will probably slow down for the next few days.

Dvalin |

Thanks for the heads up about posting rate until Monday.
Dvalin, just to be sure, you threw (dropped) a pint of oil on the creature and Nisfeollyn? How many rounds does the fire last?
Yes, but Nisfeollyn was enveloped, so the fire should not affect him.
I don't know if RAW says how long, because it needs to take a standard action to put the fire out I think.

DM Doomed Hero |

The usual rules are two rounds, but I'm a little more liberal. Oil takes quite a while to burn off, but doesn't deal a lot of damage.
Mostly the danger of oil is that it can cause things to Catch Fire, with is a much bigger problem.
I'm not sure if this thing is particularly flammable though. I'm going to have to think about that.
On one hand, it's a soggy box of goo. Not the best fuel for fire. On the other hand, if it does catch, it's screwed. It's not like this thing can stop, drop and roll.

Yep. That's what I was going for... ;D I'm an old school gamers with old school solutions.

DM Doomed Hero |

you're right, I forgot to roll that. Thanks for the reminder.
You're going to want to wait on those attack rolls for round 6 though. It gets a turn before round 6 starts and it might be trying to engulf you.

I thought your post was its Round 5 actions.

DM Doomed Hero |

I think the confusion is due to my formatting.
The cube goes at the end of every turn. Then the next round begins. I should have put the "round 5" header below the cubes action.
The cube's last action was for round 4, then round 5 started. The most recent batch of posts are for round 5. The cube hasn't taken it's round 5 action yet.
Sorry for the confusion.

DM Doomed Hero |

Dvalin, if you make your saving throw and would like to use your earlier round 6 actions, that's fine.

"Seeing what we managed to botch so far, I must say it again. This is not a good idea. With our luck, they will hatch before we move them to a better equipped location. Just take my word for it." Torgan was definitely not too happy with taking the eggs.
It's almost like someone understands the laws of dramatic action. :)

So sorry for completely dropping out like that, guys. Me and my family got the flu. We’re not 100% yet,but we’re working our way there.
I likely won’t be posting much today, tomorrow, or through the weekend, but I’ll try to be back up and running by monday or so.
Again, my sincere apologies.

DM Doomed Hero |

There's been talk from both sides about contacting the other group for some discussion. Anyone who wants to kick that off, go ahead.
For Verisimilitude, what I'd like to see is "Normal Speech" in your own thread, and then copy/paste what you say into the other thread "In Italics" to represent 'magic whisper speech'
That should keep the conversations in both threads identical, but clearly differentiate the people who aren't in your thread from the people who are.

Bladud |

What's the standard operating procedure for found loot? Do the adventurers take what they want and return the rest? Or do we officially give all back, and get a payout based on the value of the recovered gear?

DM Doomed Hero |

Items of historic value go to the Society. Everything else is spoils to be divided between the surveyors who found it.
The Quartermaster will gladly trade with the Surveyors, though funds can be limited, so don't expect to be able to sell extremely expensive items while in camp. You'll need to do that between adventures.
Each group can decide how they'd like to divide up what they find.

DM Doomed Hero |

The Summoning thing-
Think of it like having an address book on your phone. These are the creatures you "know." When you summon a creature, you're essentially sending out a mass-text saying "come give me a hand."
There's that one guy who's super reliable and always shows up. When you summon more creatures of a given type, that reliable guy brings his friends.
Also, elementals in this world aren't necessarily "planar denizens." This is an earth analogue world. Elementals are just spirits. Any given spirit can wear whatever element they want. The earth elemental Dorian summoned earlier and the mud elemental he summoned just now are the same guy, just with a different set of clothes and tools to suit the job Dorian called him for. He'll get more powerful as Dorian does, and will remember the things Dorian has called him to do. Right now he's very young, having recently been awakened to Dorian's service around the same time he made his pact with Nar. As he gets older he'll develop more of a personality.
When you summon actual creatures, those are just spirits too. It's just that the magic has created a suit of flesh for them to inhabit rather than a suit of earth. The "creature" might not even look exactly like the thing that has been summoned (hence the Celestial and Fiendish templates. These aren't actually creatures from heaven or hell. They're just magically created shells that behave like a certain kind of creature and are infused with whatever moral stance is inherent in the magic used to summon them. To the spirit the different kinds of "suits" are all the basically same, though some spirits will develop favorites. To them it's the difference between a hammer and a screwdriver.
That's it really. No rules changes, just some flavor.

Dorian Maule |

And a lot of potential roleplaying and diplomacy checks. I can't just treat em as fodder, I have to stand by them. Or they might get ticked off for only getting summoned to get hurt...
I like it.

DM Doomed Hero |

Pretty much, yeah.
You're supposed to make Diplomacy/Handle Animal checks to convince summoned creatures to do what you want anyway (if what you're asking isn't something they'd normally be inclined to do). Most GMs gloss over that part. I figure this is a good alternative to keep the game moving smoothly, but still have potential consequences.

Family first. Best of luck. A couple of years ago, I went 11 months in row visiting the emergency with one of my two kids each month. Besides being scary, we became frequent fliers at the Children's Hospital.
cheers

Game 2 seems to have stalled out. Everyone with us?
Also, Its going to be a busy weekend for me again. Posting will be reduced until sunday.
