I'd like to announce that Brian Lefebre, South Jersey's Venture Lieutenant has achieved his 5th star as a Pathfinder Society Game Master!
Brian Lefebre has volunteered hundreds of hours for PFS and has achieved this great milestone. He regularly GM's at his local store, All Things Fun. Brian also assists in GMing in Philadelphia, PA.
He has been a GM in Dexcon, Dreamation, Seelie Court as well as Gen Con, where he was integral in introducing new players into Pathfinder having GM'd all 11 slots of PFS in the Kid's Track and Beginner Box Demos.
****And as a special bonus he made it to the top 32 for RPG Superstar 2014!!! ****
It's an honor to announce his achievement and I'm proud to have him as a Venture Lieutenant for New Jersey.
Congrats!

Congratulations and welcome.
Please be advised that 5-star mountain is no longer a viable site.
An extraction team will be dispatched to your location to escort you to 5-star 'island'.
Make sure to attend the daily situation briefings on the latest security measures and avoid the spa for at least 12 hours after the goblins have been there.

Just pointing out that not only has Brian made his 5th star, he's also made top 32 of RPG Superstar in two days! He's done awesome things for South Jersey and also for Philly before we had VOs. I'm glad Karma has decided to reward him - he's earned it!

Unlike you Taldans, we Qadirans know how to haggle...I mean negotiate.

We don't have a flying citadel yet?
And what would you call that? Does it perhaps resemble an island? Hrrrmmmm? How else could we see all the way across the ever-expanding Lake of Player's Tears? The mountain just wasn't high enough anymore.
And congrats on your achievements! Well done, indeed!

Its really just a matter of deciding to start, and then the tricky part of actually following through and doing it. If you are part of a 100% novice group you'll all just have to suffer through learning the rules as you all play together. Most of us old timers have been there. It sucks, but as long as the group enjoys the story you won't notice the rule hiccups. If you're a new player joining an established group then learning the rules will be easier. Great groups will have no issues with showing a new player the ropes.
I will say I did have the advantage of learning to DM in a home game environment. In a home game I was able to do anything I wanted until I had a firm grasp of the rules. While in an Organized Play environment, such as PFS, you have to worry about the actual game mechanics, as well as the PFS campaign rules from the starting gate.
My first introduction to D&D was playing The Isle of Dread with my two brothers one rainy weekend when I was 9. With my 18 year old brother, who was a veteran player, DMing us.
After that brief introduction I was the DM for the group my younger brother and I recruited until the group split up my senior year of high school. We dabbled in different settings and game systems. I really didn't start playing much until a few years after that. I joined the RPGA and once I got to know the local community and learned the Living City campaign rules. I had no issues getting behind the DM screen at Cons. Around the same time I got a new job and started playing World of Darkness with my co-workers existing group.
As far as my superstar item. I learned of the contest in 2012 when I started running PFS at my local game store, but missed the deadline to enter. I submitted an entry in 2013, and all I know is I survived the Cull.
The ideas from both of my entries came from - I wish I had an item to do this - moments during my home game sessions. Usually we get one or two great ideas a year out of our play time.
