Just popping in a quick note. I have posted my first full Template Fu review on Andrew's entry.
Just thought I'd check everyone is happy with my format and depth before I continue when I get home from work.
If you think I have missed any aspects you would like to see covered, let me know, either here or via PM.

Very well-done review Anthony, if you have the stamina to do one of these for all top 32 then you seriously rock. I can't wait to see the review of mine!

Terry Dutton RPG Superstar 2014 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 7 aka Total Biscuit |

Evening all. I'm Terry, I'm 28, and I hail from that land of everlasting rain they call the UK. I almost studied Chemistry at university, and then decided on English. I now help carry washing machines for a living.
I found D&D at university, and I've played 3.5 rules for seven years, on and off. I've watched this contest for a while but I've never entered till now, so making the top 32 from the get-go was... surprising, heh.

Well, I *was* feeling less stressed than last go-around, but not anymore, Orcus! Thanks for nothing! :)
Rob, wow! I thought I was ahead of the game, but I'm going to take a couple more days to fiddle with it.
Mine's in as well. Off to draw some maps and read through old encounters with the judge's commentary track turned on.

First of all why are you all posting here and not obsessively pouring over your next round submissions? *glower!*
;)
Really looking forward to what you all continue to show this year!
Do we have anyone from NC this year? Or did the past several years spoil us? Because if there aren't any Tarheels this year, I suppose I'll have to mentally wish the best of luck to either the clique of biology grads and/or the folks from NJ (originally from north Jersey myself).
I am from the Raleigh area .. Garner Actually but all my PFS games are done in Raleigh. I don't say go Tarheels though .. I say go Wolfpack! ... but if you aren't from here you might not know the difference and if i say go State! It probably means something different to each of you.
i would also like to say best of luck to all of you in the top 32! I can't believe I made it! So glad to be here among such great writers!

Iain Reid RPG Superstar 2014 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 6 aka Evil Paul |

I cut my teeth on Bargle, carrion crawlers and harpies in the Red box and was hooked.
Aw, man. I remember that so well. I was 9 years old or similar and me and my friends tried that adventure so many times. The first fight was so hard! The Carrion Crawler TPKed almost every party we put at it. We only managed to defeat it using the Elf and his sleep spell.
And the Harpy's are behind a locked door that only opens once you are 2nd level. We talk about the glory days and the realism of old school gaming but can you imagine a level-locked door in a modern module. You would be laughed at.
Bargle became an recurring villain for us, and then we went to the Isle of the Dread and then... wait, I should stop now. I'll update my profile instead. You've given me some inspiration, Sir.

Iain Reid RPG Superstar 2014 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 6 aka Evil Paul |

OK, Hello All!
My name's not Evil Paul. In fact, it's not even Paul. That's just an alias I created based on an old "campaign" in the 90s where I played a deranged lich adventurer with a squad of skeletal knights at his bidding. Very silly.
No, my name's Iain and I've been gaming since I was a kid. It started with Heroquest and Talisman, and then the D&D Red through Silver boxes and then one thing led to another and before I know it I'm running the UK Living City campaign and spending most of my free time writing and editing modules and going to cons. I've also written mods for Living Greyhawk and (pre- When Things Got Organised, aka pre- 3rd Edition), for 2nd Ed and Star Wars con games. Nothing published though.
I actually played 4th Edition for a while (boo-hiss), which is good in it's own way, but I was drawn back into the fold by the Pathfinder Adventure paths, which I honestly think are the best series of modules written for any system, EVER. Yes, caps.
Things have calmed down for me, and I mainly play home games now. I also play a lot of board games and card games. Can I plug Netrunner on a Pathfinder Site? Oh, well, too late. It's great.
When not rolling dice, trading wheat for sheep, or flopping cards I live near London with my lovely wife and equally lovely but monkeyish 18 month old daughter. Both are avid gamers, but in the latter's case the games tend to involve hiding behind the curtain before peering out and shouting "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Both have a obsession with shoes.
Later,
-Iain

Ok, you guys are machines! Already have your monsters turned in? Not expecting to get this far, my monster was a concept, and some ill conceived mechanics in my head until this morning. It's now much more fleshed out, with crunch and fluff, and I've bounced back and forth between the formatting advice and other sources a hundred times!
Now to check that thread labelled "so you're designing..." and see what rules I've completely botched.
Oh, and while I currently reside in Virginia, I've done my time in NC, TN, and was there a TX entrant? I was born in Raleigh, and attended Wake Forest for a year, so if there is a NC brotherhood of competitors, I could join maybe?

Neil Spicer RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor |

Not just a brotherhood of NC competitors. It's a brotherhood of NC winners. We're all about winning here. Right, Mike? ;-D
But all joking aside, NC competitors have had an amazing track record in RPG Superstar. One year, three of the Top 4 were from NC, and there have been other NC folks in prior competitions, as well. Meanwhile, I've got a growing brood of younglings I'll be putting through their paces for someday taking their shot at the competition, too. My two oldest girls are already familiar with the Pathfinder Beginner's Box and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. So, they're coming along just fine.

Absolutely right, Neil. :)
My daughter will be running her first PFS scenarios this weekend at a local game gathering, and I imagine she will be jumping into the competition soon (school and theater currently take up most of her time during this part of the year, though).

I had done some brain storming, and had a couple of concepts. After narrowing it down, I'm almost done. Need to make it pop, but still be clean and polished.
Is it bad that I'm seriously nervous? I'm usually super low-key, but now I'm all goobed up. Anxious, excited and scared all rolled into a bundle of nerves.

Is round 2 anonymous? Meaning when they are posted, I know we're not to comment on ours, and I intend to not comment on any while voting is happening, but is it a blind vote again?
It's not anonymous, because the judges want to be able to look at your future entries in the context of what you've done before, since they are looking for superstar designers, not just superstar items and monsters.

I've come up with three creatures so far and they're all terrible. I mean, I could enter them and be ok, but none of them seem to me like they will be winning entries.
I came up with a cool evocative name for one and Googled it to find out it was a racial slur.
I plan on having a finished creature by midnight EST and to post it early tomorrow (after sleeping on it before I hit send).
So...maybe I'll enter on of the beasties I've come up with or maybe I'll have something completely new...I can't wait to find out.

GOOGLE everything....I once found out the cool name of an item was also the name of a Space Ship in a popular sic-fi series that I don't follow. However, I bet many others do, and that would have evoked the wrong image for the item.
You were going to name a magic item "Millenium Falcon?"

Looking back, I should probably introduce myself now too! I'm a graduate student in music education in Storrs, CT, with a specialization in traditional Irish music. I'm a presently home with the flu, but hopefully my fever will break this weekend and I can start working with the chilluns again soon. Although I haven't attended any Paizo conferences, I love the company and its products; it's the only game system I consistently play with my own groups.
Congratulations once again to the other contestants, I'm thrilled to be in the company of such creative minds! Looking forward to the next round!

So I figure the Monster round is the "easiest" round right?
In round 1, over 700 enter, and only 32 advance. That's under 5%.
In round 2, 32 enter and 16 advance. That's 50%.
In round 3, 16 enter and 4 advance. That's 25%.
In round 4, 4 enter and 1 advances. That's 25%.
So right now, the pressure is off!

Fern Herold RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7 aka Demiurge 1138 |

Well, "easiest" is a matter of opinion. This is the first round that your work will be publicly dissected. It's a lot of pressure to keep quiet if you're misinterpreted or misrepresented by the judges or the voting public. We've had some great competitors over the years get DQed because they couldn't keep it bottled up.

So right now, the pressure is off!
Except now you are being judged on the body of your work. Sure you might get enough votes to be in the top half of the first elimination round, but if your beastie doesn't have some mojo or show off your understanding of the rules it will hurt you in the later rounds.
