@Zi'on- If it makes you feel any better, any one person (excluding our 3 champion voters) couldn't have had probably more than a 2% impact on any single item. In most cases (based on the items I saw MULTIPLE times), it was between a .8% and 2.15% of the votes possible. Granted, this was running numbers from 300K-375K votes on anywhere from 503-550 items. There was one error in my assessment in that I didn't factor in the approximate number of items pre-cull and how many votes were taken at that time. So the numbers are spread over 503-550 and why I used such a large range of votes.
But anyways... just trying to cheer you up (and myself) with not being on lists. With over 2K voters and 300K votes, anything can happen!
Thanks for the sentiment. I'm not really down (much). I do wish though, given how much I learned in the last week, that I could have somehow learned it earlier.
Which places me in the position of waiting and hoping for "anything" to happen...
I've started tinkering with my monster and if anything has made me not want to advance it's the heartache and time I've already put into that. It's been a great experience all around, but it does make me question my sanity as to why I want to put myself through this wringer.
It must be why some people play golf - I've never been drawn to it myself, but I've always suspected the allure and dedication was proportionate to the frustration that the game produced.
They are somehow arcanely bonded to their 9-iron while the same is true for me and my d20.
Yup, it's a sickness alright...

Interestingly, following on from Neil in a way, I have noticed a trend with the shared lists...
My list has more in common with shares from entrants who are entering for the second, third, etc year. I have very, very few matches with shares from first time entrants share lists.
So there is definitely some convergence on how people voted and rated items based on how many times they have entered before.

I am amazed how little consensus there is on the lists I have seen...
And utterly shocked that my item isn't on every list.
And more utterly astounded that it isn't on any list... /sad block-headed guy
I think I'll play at civil engineering today like a good little blockhead...
I was equally surprised to see mine on any lists, especially two! After voting on so many items, I definitely thought I saw a bunch that were more Superstar than mine.
Am I the only person that always reads the word "Superstar" with a Molly Shannon flare to it?

I think there is something worth point out here...
Don't get despondent if your item is not on the lists you see. Don't count yourself out of the running.
These are lists of one persons take on their favorites and what the Top 32 should be.
BUT remember this, all of us voted on more than just our favorites, likely up-voting items which didn't appear in our favorites list, even down-voting items we saw on other peoples shared lists.
Some people voted on their preferences on items, some voted on formatting, some on content, some on word count, some on name, some looked to the designer behind the item itself.
Only the sorting algorithm on the server and now the judges know the averaged and final ordered list covering all our voting choices. You may find that when the top 32 (or more) get revealed, that it is wildly different to every list we have shared.
So chin up to everyone, keep the hope alive a little longer and don't worry about disparity in our lists.

So, I've assembled 10 lists thus far, and have found some interesting results. Together, these 10 lists contain 170 unique items. Here are the number of lists each item appears on:
7 lists: 1 item
6 lists: 0 items
5 lists: 3 items
4 lists: 5 items
3 lists: 15 items
2 lists: 28 items
1 list: 121 items
Astounding, really. There seems to be practically no agreement between the lists regarding what items are actually the best (aside from the item that appears on 7 lists. I think we'll all agree that one's pretty amazing.)

Hooray!

Thats a good point Anthony, dont get bummed out if you dont see your item on a list!
This isn't about that at all. One reason I wanted to do it is because every time I send my list out, I am hoping that your (ie whoever I send my list to) item is on it. Even if I don't pick a single item that actually makes it on the actual top 32, I hope I made your day when you saw your item on my list. I know my day was made when I saw it on someone else's list.
Taking that one step farther, the other thing I am hoping to learn here is how do my tastes line up with the judges? Chances are very high that items I like are similar to the item I made. Therefore, if items I like don't come close to the top 32, I should re-evaluate what kind of item I am making/voting on. This is a far different way of learning how to design than just "what is wrong with my item" because its a lesson in how the judges look at items compared to how I look at other items.
This is also why I think doing it before the top 32 reveal is the fact that you have the courage to put yourself out there as an evaluator. I can't back out of my list, because a bunch of you have seen it. Comparing my list to the top 32 is a way of self evaluation of my own eye as a designer. Maybe I can make a pretty decent item, but can I pick a good item out of a crowd? Beyond that, can I pick a good DESIGNER out of a crowd of items? Ultimately, that is why we vote anyways, we are helping the judges narrow down the list of the best, and we get the benefit of seeing what other people do and how they do it.
Once again, I hope no one takes this thread as a discouragement. This is gads of data that seemingly hasn't really been evaluated or collected before in this way. Lets see what we can get from it.
And hopefully your item is on my list. :)

I was voting from many different places while on vacation, like Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, and then Bolton (England) when I came back. So I really couldn't keep a list this time around, however I am interested in seeing the lists folk have kept. I will try to assemble a list from memory by looking through the post-cull list of items and trade that back as fast as possible, but remembering things is not really my cup of tea, so in the meanwhile if anyone with a list is kind enough to pm it to me, I'd be really grateful!
PS: My Paizo's PM inbox is empty, it makes me sad :(, so... please?~

![]() |

I think I got everyone who PM'd me their lists. There's one item that I've been seeing quite a bit that I really liked, so hopefully the judges think that item is cool as well.
In any case, if anyone else wants to trade lists (or is just curious and doesn't have a list this year), feel free to PM me!
EDIT: There's another item I quite liked that I've only seen on my list so far (not my item) that I rather hope makes it as well.

I just can't do it! I've almost posted in this thread a couple times, but now that it's really getting moving, I'm back to say I just can't do it.
I am currently that voter in the easternmost edge of Maine who votes first thing in the morning, runs home, and then hides in a corner with fingers in their ears until the US election results are officially announced some twenty hours later.
Which is weird, since I see this more like the parties we usually have on election days to watch as the votes roll in. But since MY name is on at least one ballot (mine!), it feels very different.
But knowing that I'm hiding from the Exit Poll is certainly making this weeklong wait feel like an eternity. I'll just keep my head in the sand and design some more monsters, encounters, and module ideas. Just in case.

When we start a thread of lists next week (though yeah, some of you will be bored with it already :) Should we also keep track of creators years entering, voting tags, previous Top 32, etc.? I recall DankeSean's list being +50% on the Top 32 and +90% on the Keeper Pile (top 89). Since he has multiple tags I trust his judgement highly. Neil's even higher as he has been on both sides of the curtain. :)
That said if DankeSean (or Neil & Clark) want to pm me a list... :)

I have 99 items that I liked. From those, I have tentatively picked my Top 32, which I have broken down into a Top 16 and a Next 16. I also have a fair number of alternates; those are in a state of flux, and may end up bumping a few items out of my Next 16.
If anyone else with a list wants to see my Top 32, PM me and I'll send you a private link to a Google Doc containing my Round 1 Exit Poll results. Feel free to append your own list of favorites to the end of the Exit Poll document.

I didn't make a favorites list (something about voting at odd times, one pair at a time, on multiple computers between home and school), as it was I barely made star voter. Still, I'd love to see top favorite lists, see if my item shows up, or some of the items that I'll go, yeah, I remember that item!
As it was, I didn't see that much variety, I only voted a few times, and kept seeing certain items over and over again. I never did see my item post-cull, but my BF saw it the night before voting closed. Anyway, if you have a little charity, PM me your list. Next year I'll definitely keep one!

Not quite a list, but I clicked favorite on everyone asking for PMs. So if you see '1 person marked this as favorite' it should be the person to PM. Since their name is right next to the favorite tab it should be easy to open their profile and send the message. I may have missed one or two, or worse double clicked someone, but it seemed a quick way indicate that this person wanted some sharing.
cheers

Well crud, 10 lists seen and no sign of my [redacted]. It's a small subsection of the voters here though, and few people have seen every item. So people in the same boat, take heart!
However, those lucky folks who are repeatedly showing up on lists can be a little more confident, since their item is trending in even such a small subsection of voters. ;)

Look, this is a bit ridiculous. Why not have a google doc spreadsheet where all the lists are posted. Each column is a new list. Each column is headed with the list's number. When a new list is added the person maintaining the doc gives that person their number. No one's name is put on the list.
Just one big place for all the lists, no voter names. I doubt something like that would influence the judges.
We are trading the information so freely I don't see a reason why something like that would be such a bad thing.

Interesting. I've seen 9 people's other lists. I haven't calculated how many unique items there are on these lists - over 100, I'm guessing.
But two things were quickly apparent:
* 20 out of the 26 items on my list do not appear in any of these other lists.
* I'm feeling strangely affirmed in my decision not to design a monster yet. :-P
Thanks everyone who has messaged me. I hope your item appeared on my list. Hang on. Ummm... Maybe that should be, "I hope your item appeared on Feros' list!"
